Mine got rented out a few times in the summer, I never really got anything out of it but it was neat anyway.

Is there any way of reliably getting RCs outside of having my pawn rented anyway? I've got an RC drop before but it seems to be really, really rare and unreliable.

Doing stuff on BBI is your best bet. It's not easy getting RC in the main game.

Have a second account that rent eachothers pawns as you do whole runs through the game.

Doing the treasure hunt quests that have you searching for medallions of some sort net you RC. It seems kind of tedious but exploring in this game is actually fun so that might be worth it.

a storm is coming...

It's MOSTLY just tedious but it does lead you to finding all sorts of little hidden nooks and crannies you'd never have noticed if not for them. I'm crazy enough to have done all of them, at one point. I used a guide for some of the later ones in the interest of saving tedious backtracking and loadtimes, since some of them REQUIRE you to have certain movement skills. I'm almost certain one of them is only possible if you're a magick archer for needing both double jump and levitate to get to.

If they re-released this game on PS4 and charged $100 for it and slapped you in the face after they rung it up I would still buy it on the first day.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but starting a new character just to get me RC seems a bit overkill, but I'll try the other suggestions as I go along. I have not actually visited BBI yet so I guess now's a good time. Other than the Secret of Metamorphosis, anything else of note to grab from the Rift Shop?

A lot of it is stuff you can get by doing the notice board quests; they only throw it in there in case you REALLY need a second set of Solar Armor or Anneled Pale or whatever. The glasses are for cosplay, as are the goofy hair and skin dyes (these might have been packed in with the game already, I don't know).

Really the only other thing I can think of worth getting are the inclination elixirs, which are handy for setting or resetting pawn behavior. Double-check your pawn's inclinations every 50 hours or so to make sure they didn't pick up any bad habits, and juice 'em up accordingly.

EDIT: I know it's a bad word, but really, whether you're 360 or PS3, the pawnlist in the 4chan Dragon's Dogma megathread gets regularly checked out. After posting there I get a rent or two every week. Being active in the thread will probably net you a few more.

Really, after Secret of Metamorphosis and pawn behavioural therapy, the only use RC have is purifying BBI loot.

Yeah, I really don't understand why they changed the intro song. Was it due to some contract or copyright shenanigans or was it simply Capcom being Capcom?

I mean, the entire soundtrack could have been japanese buttrock and it would only have suited the game even more. Lord knows how loving tired I am of hearing the same orchestral stuff for everything related to fantasy games.

AFAIK, the literal math wizard who tested all these mechanics still posts occasionally and this thread should steal him away. I've had that FAQ, along with the pawnlist, bookmarked forever now.

The song is still in the game I believe, I don't remember where it plays but I swear I heard it while I was playing through Dark Arisen. I mean to be fair, IT'S WRITTEN IN THE SAND, WE ARE THE DANGAN is silly. The whole song is silly, but that is definitely no reason to remove it. The only thing I can think of is that they thought "well, re-release needs new music, #yolo".

Of course it's silly, it's the usual japanese buttrock sung by a bunch of dudes who, together, can barely string together a coherent english sentence but that's the beauty of it.

So once I get max ranks in a vocation there's no reason to not jump around to other jobs as I feel like it, right? It seems like my original vocation (fighter) costs zero discipline? Will all the vocations I grab cost zero dsc after I get them once?

2house2fly
Nov 14, 2012

You did a super job wrapping things up! And I'm not just saying that because I have to!
Yes, buy the vocation once and you can switch to it freely. It's actually a good idea to mix and match a bit, both because it helps keep the gameplay fresh and because each class has its own set of augments you can unlock, and you can use any augment as any class. So you can get an augment for extra magic damage as a sorceror, then use that same augment to do more damage as a magick archer.

Inflammatory
Apr 22, 2014
also keep in mind that your stat gains on level up are based on what class you are when you gain the level. it's not a huge deal, but if you go fifty levels as a fighter and switch to mage, you're not going to have as much magic as if you'd gone fifty levels as a mage.

this is mostly important for magic archer, which is an awesome class but doesn't get much magic attack, so leveling some as a mage/sorceror can really help it out.

Are the skills that I can get dependent on vocation rank, level, or both?

Vocation rank. Level is only used as a restriction for the advanced/hybrid vocations (you have to be at least level 10), and certain end-game equipment.

So I think I'm near the end of the game, I've got the quest where I'm supposed to collect 20 wakestones and I've got way more than that lying around. I'm kind of eager to see the end because the game's setting and plot basically only got interesting in the last segment imo but I also want to do the Bitterblack Isle expansion content and I've had experience with how this game loves to block you off from quests once you pass certain plot flags. Is there a point of no return after you turn in the wakestones where you can't go back to Bitterblack Isle?

Yes, it's when you jump down the hole. So you can hand them in and walk away, or do BBI and then hand them in.

Or you can go into NG+ because you get to keep all your poo poo.

Yes. Do BBI now unless you want to do it in NG+ (which isn't a serious ordeal, it will be open to you right from the start).

I wouldn't half-rear end it though. IIRC, every new game cycle resets your progress through BBI the same way it resets the main world and quest progress; any shortcuts will be reclosed, Barroch will be back inside, and gigantic beholder boss will have respawned.

I see no problem with fighting the Beholder over and over, it's a fun fight and gives off a lot of experience.
