There's a noticeboard featured prominently in any Dutch supermarket that has all sorts of weird want ads and there's still some jobs posted among them.

Newspaper ads are still useful for companies bringing in foreign talent on visas, but need to prove to the government that they looked for an American to fill the position first. It's easier to show the government printed matter than pointing them to some job link on a website that might expire.

I know it was really frustrating several months ago when i was looking for something new and almost every place (even fast food, min. wage places) required online applications and didn't have or accept paper ones. I sort of felt that change in direction was sort of crappy because there are a lot of jobs that are going to attract a portion of the population that won't have the most reliable, secure or available internet access.

So let's say I wanted to make a low budget film and wanted to use an actual Film Camera and not a digital one, what would be the best choice for Film format and what would be a good camera to use?

Low-budget and actual film no longer live in the same area code. Unless you already have a photo lab, and want to develop and edit a few miles of black and white 8mm film. These days "low budget" and "film" should never be used in the same sentence unless you already know how to develop and have your own darkroom with an infinite source of free film and chemicals. efb- yea what he said ^^^^

Well that sucks to hear, what about those cameras that use tapes to record, would those be a good alternative or are those facing similar issues?(cause yeah I kinda want to emulate old low budget Horror films, cause it seems like it would be fun to try)

You can use minidv or vhs/c without issue, so long as you have a capture card or a firewire card.

MiniDV is easier to find and higher quality, but if you want cheap home movie feel you'll want VHS.

Just a tip that shooting something with a vhs camera does not look anything like old movies played from a vhs.

The thing I most remember about shooting on a VHS-C camera was how crappy autofocus was back then - it'd hunt before getting the focus right even on high contrast scenes where the subject was stationary. Also on my camera the AF and zoom motors were clearly audible.

why not just shoot it digital, and tweak it in after effects or something afterwards?

Can't you simulate 24 FPS in post? I seem to remember doing that once at a previous job. I seem to remember it being really simple/automated, like an After Effects plugin or something. Or are you trying to accomplish something else with the film?

Shoot in HD with proper lighting then add the film look in post, there are a gazillion plugins for whatever finishing system you use to get this effect. Shoot some test clips and try some. IMO decent fill and key but low backlight are part of the cheesy look.

Just do this please, it's relatively cheap to film normally (for today's standard) and then use After Effects to make it look like old school el cheapo film.

Has anyone come up with a way to simulate that look of things recorded on that camera that used audio cassettes? Here's an example, with all kinds of other stuff going on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGFsVwLOvoA At least I think that one is genuine. It might have slenderman in there somewhere. Try not to stab anyone if you watch it.

Export it to a VHS tape, re-capture it, re-export THAT, and recapture THAT until it looks bad. This way any VFX you do have the benefit of a nice clean noiseless plate and you won't be fighting bad footage bring back old gbs has a new favorite as of 17:55 on Jan 13, 2015 |

A fancy 4K camera is going to look like video (unless shooting in 24fps and adding grain etc. later) and shooting in VHS is going to look like lovely video. Basically, unless your name is James Cameron, shooting at more than 24fps (without changing it in post) is going to look like it was filmed in some guy's basement no matter what you use to film it.
