Charlie Hebdo columnist Zineb El Rhazoui on why the latest edition depicts Prophet Muhammad

Crossposting my transcription for people at work:

quote:

"ZeR: All the team could meet together friday morning, and we had to start working immediately. It was not easy because those of us who are not dead are injured or traumatised and we had to make this issue in these very difficult conditions. But I think we have done a good job, and we are all proud to have done a good job this week.

Interviewer: Do you believe this kind of cover was necessary to show nothing had changed after last week?

ZeR: It was not necessary, I think it was important. You know, the prophet did not inspire us a lot this week. All the drawings I saw since Friday, since the cartoonists started drawing on friday, and I have barely seen one image of the prophet. We were still hesitating yesterday over which drawing we would choose and I am very happy it was this one. You know, this week, if the terrorists hadn't killed my colleagues I think this week the cover would have been about culture or sport or politics. But because of terrorists who have killed my colleagues for that, 3 million people will have the prophet's drawing at home. It is very important for us to don't accept that my colleagues are not censored after death, it is very important for us to choose this drawing. So I think it was very important to choose this drawing.

Interviewer: What do you say to muslims who are appalled by this violence but are offended by this week's cover?

ZeR: I would tell them that it is a drawing, and they don't have to buy this edition of Charlie Hebdo if they don't appreciate this drawing. We only do our job, we do not violate the law. We are much more hurt, much more upset, for our colleagues death. Our colleagues died for small drawings, for simple drawings, for a joke. What happened to us was not a joke.

Muslims must understand that we at Charlie Hebdo just consider Islam just as a normal religion, just as all the other religions in France. It is a religion that now belongs to the social reality in France, so Islam must accept to be treated like all the other religions in the country, and must accept humour also.

Interviewer: The front page has the title 'All is forgiven' - to whom is the title addressed?

ZeR: We feel that we have to forgive what happened. I think that those who have been killed, if they were here, they would have been able to have a coffee today with the terrorists today, and just talk them, ask them why they have done this. We feel as Charlie Hebdo's team that we need to forgive the two terrorists who have killed our colleagues. We cannot feel any hate to them - we know that the struggle is not with them as persons, as people, the struggle is against an ideology. I think what happened - this mobilisation here in France after this horrible crime - this must open the door to forgiveness and everyone must think about this forgiveness. We at the Charlie Hebdo team, I think we have to forgive."

Make way for MarmaDaoud.
Though that makes little sense and translates to 'Daoud's Goal'.
Funny thing about Arabic is that it also uses the word for goal as both the sports term and the regular term.

But I would read a comic about a Great DaneDamascan playing football with the pros.

That Article posted:

Some conservatives have been quick to jump on Michelle Obama for her “scientific” claims, pointing to a POLITICO story that quotes experts who claim there are discernible benefits from drinking one extra glass of water a day. Rush Limbaugh called it “just more command-and-control” from the Obama White House. The Washington Times went after the “the nation’s most prominent anti-obesity crusader” for misleading the public. And the Washington Free Beacon blasted the headline, “Michelle Obama’s Drink More Water Campaign Based on Faulty Science.”
