A cold Bud Light Lime can have condensation on it, causing it to be released from your grasp as you violently empty it into the sink. The 3D printed Bud Buddy takes care of all those problems!

I 3D printed some visor clips for the Beetle. The old ones are impossible to find, and I could make these in glow-in-the-dark plastic (the only "white" filament I have on hand." Seriously looks so much better. (this one has some of the raft I later removed still stuck to it)

How glowy is the glow in the dark filament?

Very poor

You can get glow in the dark paint, just use that.

I noticed Makergear is taking pre-orders for V4 extruder upgrade kits. Now I'm wondering if I should order an M2 printer and upgrade kit and use the V3b extruder until the V4 ships, or keep waiting for them to include the V4 extruder in the M2.

The V4 is a nice upgrade.

My rostock no longer prints from sd cards anymore. When I try to print it beeps three times and shows "Printing -1%" really quickly and goes to the home screen. Also it shows "ROSTOCKMAX Read" instead of "ROSTOCKMAX Ready". I wonder if the firmware is corrupted?

If I wanted to modify an eps file for laser printing etc what free software should I be looking at. The Shrimpbot uses 3.5mm material (and tabs) and it seems like the industry standard is 3.0mm, plus I'd like to laser engrave the robot name in the top & add mounting holes for Arduino and Raspberry Pis http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:36062

I was wondering if I might be able to ask someone here with access to a 3d printer about possibly printing something for me. I wasn't quite sure where to ask, but thought that I'd just jump to the last page.

I just started my little 3d printing business ... I'd be happy to. If you don't want a direct solicitation, check out makexyz.com or 3dhubs.com and pick somebody local.

I just updated my repetier host and slic3r for my solidoodle. I'm getting a strange issue, though. I don't know if it's repetier host or the gcode generated from the slice yet, but my printer does not zero in on any of the axis before beginning a print now. Any ideas on fixing this? I want to run the latest software, and would rather not go back. edit: Figured it out, was just some dumb default settings that I've fixed. In case anyone is interested the MidWest RepRap Festival is March 20 through the 22nd in Elkhart Indiana. This will be their third festival and I have attended the first two. Last year I would estimate that around 100 3D printers and about 1000 people attended/passed through. I plan on attending again this year, I would not fly in for it but I will be driving about four hours to attend.

Hey there. Thought I'd stop by and as a question. Google has failed me so maybe people here know. Are any compatible plastics fuel safe? No I am not thinking of anything in particular, but it could have it's uses.

Define safe? Will this be for a pressurized application, do you have a specific temperature range in mind, and how much are you willing to spend?

HDPE will definitely work. It's what gas cans are made from. Have fun printing it though.

Speaking of printing gas cans... are there any printers with a huge build area (like over a cubic foot) and still cost within a thousand or two?

http://3dprint.com/9864/partdaddy-seemecnc-3d-printer/ There's a YouTube video of that monstrosity actually printing somewhere but I'm on my phone so can't search for it very well. Edit: I doubt it's actually for sale though, or if it were would cost less than a few thousand bucks.

So I'm looking to get into 3D printing. I've been playing with an old makerbot at work - i don't know what generation it is, but it's one of the wooden ones and prints ABS only. The print quality kind of sucks and there's lots of warping. I'm assuming this is partly because it's ABS and partly because the machine is old. Anyways, I'm willing to spend up to 2-2.5k for a good printer. Is there a short list of ones I should be considering? There's so many out there it's kind of overwhelming. I think building from a kit would be a lot of fun but would also consider pre-built ones. I'll mostly be using it for learning, making small toys, art projects, and the occasional functional part or tool. The ability to print ABS as well as PLA would be nice, but not a deal breaker.

Sweet thanks, I'll look at these. Is there any reason I shouldn't just get a makerbot replicator?
|
# ? Jan 21, 2015 04:48 |
|
Because makerbot is an evil company. Like, seriously. Closed everything, hosed licenses on thingiverse, stealing user designs then patenting them, and the creator using his partners until they were no longer useful then throwing them away like a discarded wrapper. Along with aggressive marketing (look at any newsreel of a "3d printed prosthetic giving <insert> mobility" and you'll see a makerbot in the background, donated or licensed for the publicity).

^^^ And sealed closed extruder assemblies that are not user-serviceable. It jammed? You're maybe just inconvenienced, and maybe hosed! Has anyone used a Printrbot Plus? 10x10x10 inches and (just) under a grand - neat.

Filament Trip Report 1: MatterHackers vs BuMat Printer: Rostock MAX v2 E3D v6 hotend Software: Sliced with MatterControl (Matter Slice), mostly printed via SD card as the printer slows down over USB and complicated curves I've gone through about three rolls of MatterHackers 1.75mm filament, one grey ABS, one red ABS, one green glow in the dark ABS. I thought everything was okay, and the rolls never varied more than .05mm, between 1.72 and 1.77, generally staying solidly around 1.74mm in diameter. Recently, I went to purchase some plumbing pieces from Amazon, but they were all "add-on" items that demand a total order of more than $25, so I added on a roll of BuMat clear ABS (29.99) to bring the total up. Everything is so much better! No real jams, it feeds better, I can print faster, and it strings less at 245 C. I'm almost through the roll of clear, and I've ordered black, orange, and purple from Amazon. I'll update when I get to test those.
