Virtual addressing does in principle mean that all used memory can be mapped into a single area transparently, so that should not be an actual aspect of the "nightmare" variety.
If you start actively and constantly shuffling things around to fill holes in physical memory space, that happen when allocations get freed, so the whole system uses the least amount of memory chips/modules/rows/lines/whatever-geometry, you're probably wasting more electricity on the CPU than you'd save switching off the aforementioned things.

This happened a lot on my 521. It was really annoying when the weather tile said "50 degrees and sunny :buddy:" and then I went outside and it was 20 degrees. I'm not sure if it had to do with low memory or not.

Here at Windows Central, we certainly understand the difficulty in sorting out the fake news from real news, after all, people are ingenious these days at creating some impressive fakes. Furthermore, the anticipation for Windows 10 and Windows Phone is, of course, very high, leading to a feeding frenzy of leaks and tidbits, something we are guilty of too.
Yeah, you guys certainly are guilty of it too.. like all the loving time. :cripes:

So many trash sites out there. Personally I avoid wmpoweruser, microsofft-news.com (or anything that the guy that runs that stuff (Surur?) does since he post this junk all the time). WPCentral (or whatever they are calling themselves now) is normally better but they get fooled by this poo poo all the time too. Honestly just don't believe anything they post full as normally it's wrong or has one right piece and 99% of the rest is made up.

It costs $0.99 because :homebrew:

(Financial report: total revenue so far is $34.88, and the minimum balance for a payout is... $200. So I have not actually made any money yet)

Also relatively new is more aggressive automatic album art acquisition, and as app... ackground. Which looks pretty neat. Sadly because I prefer to use the art as an app background rather than a page background (for continuity while navigating), I can't do any parallax stuff (or at least, haven't figured that part out yet).

Remember that even if you don't want to use my app or think it's dumb, you can still help a goon out by rating it FIVE stars in the store.

The do allow backgrounds behind transparent tiles though. I for one find backgrounds rather than the minimalistic elegant black or white to be quite.... ugly in all the workups I've seen. I hope the at least leave an option for the current background behind transparent tile with black on edges.

I did get a workaround of setting the NeutralResourcesLanguage of the project.

It didn't work, and by the time I tried it, they closed the bug as external (which it is, so I don't blame them for it). But looking at their newer commits with how the resources are being handled, once they add universal app support back, it should work.

So after fighting with Entity Framework for two hours or so, I think I got a fix working. After finding this msdn blog article linked on stackoverflow and jerry rigging it to work with EF, it no longer throws on the resources. So all database functions should be working again in release mode! :toot:

I pushed a new build to the store. Hopefully it actually works for everyone and was not a fluke for me (It worked on all my phones, and I've got three now so... :v:). This includes all the fixes I've been posting about too. But no search. Still working on that.

Do they actually power down unused RAM opportunistically though? Otherwise there is little point to tombstoning the apps into flash (which I assume is what has to be happening to get "resuming") when they can just stay resident but unscheduled.

I assumed it was actually terminating the app (i.e. telling it to save its current state, then stopping the threads, terminating the process, releasing RAM). And when it said "resuming" then it was displaying a saved screenshot while re-launching the app.

At least, when you implement an app, you're expected to support and test than exact scenario. Within Visual Studio you click the "Suspend" or "Suspend and terminate" button on the toolbar, then the "resume" button.

Has he actually been "complaining" about the Music app though? I haven't seen it, rather he eventually just reports what people are saying in general around the web and in his comments, usually after he praises/promotes said product. Basically like his Windows 8 coverage - early on, dismissing the complaints as "whiners" and people just "resistant to change" (you know, like the Win8 thread in SH/SC), then promoting himself as a truth-teller from the start when the failure of it was so laughably obvious and impossible to ignore.

It's really amazing how little actual analysis the guy does, especially in terms of actually reviewing MS products in light of the competition. It's usually just throwaway lines in the middle of an article, such as when he lamented Spotify's march to dominance, despite Xbox Music being a "great" (or some such accolade) service. When the comments filled up with "WTF are you talking about? Xbox Music is awful!", his defense was "Well the Windows Phone Xbox Music app is better than Spotify!". Yeah, got that 2% marketshare segment locked up.

tl/dr: Thurrott is really, really dumb and serves no point in existing

Edit: Hah, he just posted an article on how to use Xbox music to manage your local music, of course not mentioning how absolutely awful it is for this express purpose.

Australian Banks have excellent windows phone apps, especially the Commonwealth Bank, which was the first to really invest in a high quality Windows Phone 8 app. It's not just a shortcut to their mobile website either, it's a proper app, that put a good deal of effort into making it feel like a windows phone app. It's better than their Android app.
