what the gently caress are you talking about, you stupid loving fuckface? now is not the time for finding a loving scapegoat; now is the time for figuring out what the gently caress we're going to do about the IMMINENT END OF ALL LIFE ON EARTH BECAUSE THE MOTHERFUCKING MOON IS GOING TO CORE THE loving PLANET

I wonder if they cast Johnny Yong Bosch just so when they got to this part he could just go be sinister and use his Lelouch from Code Geass voice.

Sooo yeah, we're getting into why people don't like second half Rossiu now. Second half Rossiu is an rear end in a top hat but I'd argue he's a good character (good characters being defined as characters that are memorable and get a reaction out of you, one way or another) and his actions are a reasonable extension of what we know about him from the first half.

MrAristocrates posted:I still can't get over how contrived the Nia thing is, sorry. Yeah it's pretty dumb. I mean, I think saving the Earth is plot motivation enough, it's not like you have to throw icing on the cake to make Simon fight the Antispirals. Rhonne posted:Rossiu has the unfortunate problem of being a guy who tries to be calm and rational in a world that is anything but. Yeah, he thinks in real world solutions for a world wherein robots are literally powered by fighting spirit. I actually do like his plot arc though just because it all comes to a payoff in the end. Rhonne posted:Rossiu has the unfortunate problem of being a guy who tries to be calm and rational in a world that is anything but. Like I said, he's basically Frank Grimes. In a more serious story his reactions might be reasonable. But this is a story about fighting spirit and solving problems by punching them in increasingly silly ways.

Making your friend a scapegoat and then leaving them for death on a planet that is going to be firebombed by aliens is not reasonable.

MrAristocrates posted:I still can't get over how contrived the Nia thing is, sorry. Yeah, I think it would have worked better if they made it so Lordenome's "daughter's" were always anti-spiral sleeper agents or something. The whole "she just happened to be the 1 in a million human to be anti-spiral" thing is a little too silly, even for Gurren Lagann. Beef Waifu posted:Making your friend a scapegoat and then leaving them for death on a planet that is going to be firebombed by aliens is not reasonable. I just said he tries to be reasonable, I didn't mean he always is. At this point in the story he's pretty much in full "freaking the gently caress out" mode.
