There is one part of the ending that actually works for me, and it's coincidentally the part that's actually relevant to the themes of the arc. A lot of the second half seems to be trying to incite reactions in the viewer and it works, but not to any real end, so it all ends up feeling really pointless and overlong.

Beef Waifu posted:This is not to bring up the myriad of prisoners in that prison who were all probably locked up like Viral was for what were basically petty reasons. While I agree with you for the most part, Viral was kind of one of the top soldiers in the Spiral King's army and probably killed a poo poo ton of humans back in the day. It's not hard to justify wanting to lock him up.

Yeah, Viral sure is causing a lot of trouble protecting those underground settlers that Rossiu is trying to force out of their homes so he can count their heads and begin his gulag.

Like I've heard the argument that it's supposed to be deflating the conventions of the genre but considering how bananas the last few episodes are I feel that's the show having its cake and eating it too. It's not consistent in that message.

MrAristocrates posted:The more I think about everything about the second arc of GL the less I like it. I'm realizing now how little from this part actually worked for me. GL was basically my gateway to super robot shows and with every year that passes by I think less of it. At this point I basically think of the last bits as hollow attempt to out-do the various forebearers that it cribs from throughout. Basically every time I think about it, I just think about how much Getter Robo loving owns.

Origa(Olga Yakovleva) was an incredible singer and often worked alongside Yoko Kanno on things including the various Ghost in the Shell songs. It's a god drat shame she's gone, taken at only 44 by lung cancer. She sang one of my favorite songs ever, also paired up with Yoko Kanno, called Moon. It was one of the main songs of Turn A Gundam, which is one of the best anime ever made, in no small part because of the incredible soundtrack highlighted by stuff like Moon. Give it a listen, it's an extremely emotional track, I always thought it could both be played at a wedding or a funeral(and I did so on one occasion). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU35fJNtxp8
