It's not something you can shoehorn in.

That stuff is great in regular FF games and that was the spirit behind the 1.x itemization, but there are no choices in MMOs. There's "right" and then stuff that people will scream about you using.

You guys aren't wrong, but if we're not yelling at pubbie DPS who do 200 DPS in i110-120 gear, then I'm not sure the playerbase will care if player X has 90% Optimal Right Side vs. 100% Optimal Right Side. And even in endgame right now, the hardest non-Savage encounters don't require perfection at max ilvl. My static is good enough to clear T12, and both in my static and in that T13 pickup I was in, people haven't been freaking out about 450 DPS vs. 550 DPS.

Just playing devil's advocate, really, because I like item enchantments that aren't the same few stats.

Well the thing is, the 200 dps pubbies will think they are doing perfectly fine, so there is no reason for them to not scream at you for not having your ring of ogre slaying +1 equipped, never give poo poo players leverage to scream at you, imho.

We cleared on Friday for the first time with a DPS who had never stepped foot in the battle and me as a 111 warrior with a 110 axe because our usual tank was out with work. 2 blackfires and 5 Bennus is still very doable. We had one or two deaths on the final phase and still beat the enrage.

Ideally yes, 1 blackfire and four bennus is best, but it's hardly required to clear.

Man. With some tightening up I think we can bypass the sixth bennu, but we are just barely avoiding the third blackfire as it is now. Maybe we just need to spend a few more weeks farming T10-11 for drops, but I'll see if I can figure out where more dps can be squeezed out.

For an MMO or RPG in general the gear, stats, and abilities in this game are really boring.

But the benefit is that everything is really well balanced and they're able to design around a lot of assumptions that end up making the game fun to play.

Having good DPS can completely change how fight is done. For example, we don't tank swap at all in Turn 12 because we do it with three Bennus. If you're playing a DPS class (actually any class) you should take it upon yourself to be doing as much as you possibly can.

I would say that anyone at i120 or higher should be able to pull 500 sustained DPS without too much trouble (barring interruptions like Wild Charge, getting the Bluefire marker, Earth Shaker, etc.) I consider myself a very average, non-bleeding-edge DRG and I pull about 560 in T13 without potions @ i122. Burst is around 700 depending on crits.

edit: For T12 phase 1 specifically, melee DPS targeted by Whitefire can wait until the last second to move out, usually only losing one GCD. If you have a BLM, make them solely responsible for AOEing down the Blackfires and keep the other DPS on the boss at all times. For Bennus, give 2 or 3 GCDs in the center, then move it to the death spot, letting ranged kill it so melee can stay on the boss.

Unless they're seriously undergeared, it sounds like your DPS is way behind the curve in terms of their rotations/performance in general. You might want to talk with them about checking up on stuff like that. Don't be afraid to parse with ACT, it can really help you figure out what works/what doesn't. Just don't talk numbers through in-game chat.

Either that, or you're handling a mechanic in a certain sub-optimal way that's causing your DPS to not enough enough uptime on the boss/drop stacks/etc.

Yeah like, maybe I play RPGs for different reasons than some/most people, but I'm more interested in the mechanics of the class, controls, and encounter/monster design than I am in gear interactions. I'd be a happy camper if stats didn't exist at all beyond "take less damage," "do more damage," and "heal more damage" if the fights were still engaging and buttons were fun to press.

Hard for me to directly monitor my own dps since I play on PS4, but I'm consistently topping my group's list for the (unsuccessful) full fight parse of T12 at around 450-470 as a monk. I know there are things I could do to tighten up my rotations but I'm not sure about 100 dps worth. And I was recruited because everybody in multiple coil LSes thought I was a beast. :shobon:

This probably doesn't count for much, since so far the only T13 win on my server came from a group that transfered in.

We got 5 bennies the first time we stumbled in there, with just one person with an upgraded weapon.

This is only because we can't. I've seen some serious poo poo in expert roulette, but I generally just adjust the pack sizes I pull accordingly since asking that dragoon why they're doing 130 dps with an i110 weapon is a good way to get banned :v:

It was even worse in 1.0 with its Glorious Itemlevelless Horizontal Progression because you'd try to get together a group of people to finally get United We Stand done for like the fifth loving time that week and after hours of sac pulling through the castrum find out that in actual combat everyone hits like a wet noodle and not even bringing along Stu and Neph and Chad and a couple other goons who know what they're doing can save the run from just how badly geared and terrible these players are and for gently caress's sake I just spent 20 hours doing caravan escort to get this loving axe why don't these people have any basic goddamned courtesy of gearing themselves at least a little bit before coming along holy gently caress no I'm not bitter

This has me wondering as I play on ps4 as well and occasionally play melee dps. If I move diagonally from the rear to the flank and then use an ability, my character will face the mob and presumably continue auto attacking.

However, in those 2.5 seconds, what are the chances I miss an auto attack if I don't perfectly time that ability use? Should I be manually facing the mob every time I switch positions just in case?

I'm not sure which camera style I use, and can't check it now :downs: but this does interest me for the times I do melee dps.
