I won't be seeing T13 before like 3.4 or whenever retro FCOB runs become trendy, so I am fine with keeping my Ironworks robe for now. Excellent news; I was already planning on running the heck out of WoD.

Oh god, that WoD/CoD music, god loving drat it I need to get through and unlock all this poo poo already. I actually like how the mid-boss music for WoD is the same as the LotA/ST boss music but really washed-out and creepy-sounding, like it's playing through a portal to another dimension.

Captain Oblivious posted:It was. The official forums have a way of provoking a "Have I gone mad or have theu?" reaction. You can. I was going to re-meld heavily into control and do Command IV, Competence III, Command III, Command III, Cunning III. This allows you to do a 5 step and gives a boost in control. Honestly wondering if the extra touch from going to a 4 step from the craftsmanship boost is more beneficial though. I haven't done to the math but I assume the greater chance at 11 stacks is probably more important.

I just did WoD completely blind with 23 other people doing it completely blind. It took 90 minutes but we did it. loving amazing raid, bosses are stellar. Cerberus. Oh my god. Our Cloud of Darkness win came after a massive screwup reversed by a healer LB3 - something like the third or fourth time I've actually seen a healer LB save the day in my XIV time. Anyone who hasn't done WoD yet needs to get on that poo poo immediately.

I interrupt patch-day excitement for dumb new-player questions: 1) How important is money before end game? Is doing my traditional MMO route of just mining up money fine for a person who does not expect to get deep into crafting or need fat stacks for anything in particular? Is there any reason not to start now? 2) Is there a big thing I should be saving for (mount, flight, etc)? 3) If I expect to play primarily controller, are there classes/roles I should shy away from, or classes that are overall less hampered by controller play? Any set-up tips I might not know about to make things easier on me? 4) I've hit a few situations where, like the level 10 quest, I had a person healing my Crusader, every time I would use an ability my target would automatically swing back to my healer. So I would do the first half of my combo, then have to D-pad back over to the boss to use my 2nd ability, over and over. I actually didn't beat him until this magically stopped happening. Is that just the game being quirky, or a setting off, or user error? Thanks!

So I've been interested in giving FF14 a try for some time now, and I decided to take the plunge into the 14 day free trial. Some old high school friends all play together on Balmung, but after trying each day for the past 2 weeks to create a character there, I have given up. I did enjoy the game enough to subscribe, but I was pretty discouraged at having to play on a random server without my friends. I made it up to about level 18 on a Marauder, mostly just messing around and learning the game. I didn't want to develop a character too far along before settling on a place to play though. I've basically written off making a character on Balmung, so this morning I created a character on Excalibur. Any particular advice for a MMO and FF series veteran but FF14 newcomer? Is my best bet to just join up with goons and ask questions in game as things come up? Is there a particular class suited for a first time player, or should I just play whatever looks fun and figure out min/maxing optimization later? justinoid fucked around with this message at 18:58 on Jan 20, 2015 |

Huxley posted:I interrupt patch-day excitement for dumb new-player questions: 3) Play whatever you like, I heal with a controller and while sometimes I get oversaturated with hotkeys it works out fine. Just look up a guide on effectively playing with a controller. 4) See the guide I just mentioned for more details. There are two kinds of targeting, soft targeting (move the cursor over a target) and hard targeting (move it over the target and press x). If you soft target something and cast an ability on it, you'll go back to your hard target immediately after. This is very useful for me as a healer, since I can keep focus on the tank but occasionally heal one of you other fuckers when you walk into the fire.

Correct. With perfect melded new (i55) accessories, Artisan mainhand/Militia offhand, and the new i70 "Artisan" gear, you're 3* capable without food and can make your own Supra tokens, etc. You'll still be somewhat off of 4* stuff with the Artisan's offhand; you'd need a couple of pieces of i60 gear melded for that.

As far as I remember, in order to get a 5 progress step 4 star craft using PbPx2, and Ingenuity II + CS2 you need 570 craftsmanship. As far as I know even with HQ Shark Fin Soup and Lucis you can't reach that high yet. The total is probably different if you're doing a PbPx3 rotation but that rotation is so CP heavy that I haven't bothered looking into it. Looking at the Demon Robe of Healing makes me wonder if SE just throws darts at a board to determinate itemisation. I mean, I can't complain too much, since those 4 crit/det pieces we get are beautiful, and the feet are nice for a WHM, but ugh, that robe. Maybe I'm just bitter that literally all the Crit/Det healer robes are PvP gear.
