This morning I woke up to this hanging under my Fiesta. It's a foam strip that apparently helps insulate or otherwise help the radiator do its thing. It's a common issue it seems. I didn't have time to mess around with it so maybe I'll just have the dealer handle it when I go in for my first oil 10k checkup. Unrelated, it looks like oil is seeping around the oil pan gasket. I'll have the dealer look into that too.

My Rhino ramps work so much better with the Fiesta than they did with the FR-S. I had to use boards to keep the front of the FR-S from pushing the ramps forward but the Fiesta climbs right up without any problems. I put the Fumoto valve on today when I did my COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY AND AFFRONT TO ALL THAT IS HOLY oil change. The factory oil filter must have been tightened by Hercules. I used my oil filter wrench and the wrench seriously chewed it up trying to get it out. I also put the Kenwood underseat subwoofer in and it's awesome. It really fills in what was missing with the factory system without being annoying. GutBomb fucked around with this message at 00:59 on Jan 18, 2015 |

Where did you find space for one, and which one did you use? Does is replace the factory sub, or supplement it (or does your Fiesta not have the factory sub)? Other than the passenger front seat, I don't see how I could fit an underseat sub in the Focus, with the way the rear seats fold up to let the backs lay flat, although I really haven't ever investigated this type of sub.

It's about the same size as a super Nintendo. So really small. I put it under the driver's seat because there's already some unit under the passenger seat. There isn't a factory sub in my carb I got the Kenwood KSC-SW11. It was around $150 on Amazon.

I figured that was the model, as it's the only active Kenwood under-seat sub I could find. I am kind of curious how it performs compared to the factory sub with the upgraded stereo. Given the size and power, I kind of doubt it would be a big help though, but I may have to research that down the road. Thanks! japtor posted:And a related side note, there are drivers on the road today that were born after the N64 came out so that might not be the best reference if The Locator happened to be a younger driver (but probably not going by the reg date). I climbed under my Fiesta this weekend and tightened all the hose clamps on the intercooler piping. Some where a good 4-5 turns from being properly tight. I'm sure it's placebo effect, but the car seems to have better pickup at partial throttle now, especially on the highway.

So my car has started making a new disturbing noise. It almost sounds like a supercharger whine but obviously don't have one of those. It happens in 4th-6th gear between 2000-4500 rpm only after I've been driving for about 30 minutes. It's only present when I'm on the throttle, as soon as I lift it stops, and it increases in pitch as I accelerate. It doesn't happen if I push the clutch in and rev while I'm rolling. Today on my drive home I listened closely I didn't hear it until I was at the exact spot I was last night when I heard it. Now I'm thinking it might be some crazy specific road noise. I'm also going to plug the sound tube to see if it still happens, just to rule that out because I've had another weird quieter hum in all gears at low rpm. Well blocking the symposer didn't make the sound go away but I can reproduce them reliably only on certain sections of roads so I'm thinking it's the snow tires. I'm unblocking the symposer later today because now the cool noises are gone so all I'm left with is some really quiet gear wine and tire/wind noise.

I don't know of this against the rules but after getting rear ended and having my much beloved 05 Civic totaled out I'm on the market for a new car. I'm looking for a 4 dr Hatchback under $13,000. In that range I'm primarily finding Ford Focus SE's. Do any of you have any recommendations of something I'm not looking at? So far I've test driven the following: 2011 Honda Fit 2012 Ford Focus SE 201X Hyundai Elantra (don't remember the year) S010 Honda Insight

Sorry for the double post. I found this Mazda 3 while searching online http://tinyurl.com/m9bkd9z Is there any reason that I shouldn't drive an hour or so to go get it? Every review I've read about 2012 Mazda 3's has been glowing. Any input from any of you that might have driven this car?

SalTheBard posted:Sorry for the double post. I found this Mazda 3 while searching online I own that exact car. A little under 20k miles and no problems so far. Engine is basically identical to the current model and the ride might be ever so slightly harsher since I heard they dampened it better in the 3rd gen. My only real gripes are mediocre throttle response, ugly non-matching info/radio screens, and a rear view mirror that can impede your view if you're a taller driver (I'm 6'2" and it's only slightly annoying). Other than that I really love it.

I'm looking pretty heavily at a Focus ST to replace my old Civic Si hatch. What's the going "good" price for 2014 ST3 models? Local dealer has 5 on the lot but wasn't dealing much. I definitely don't mind traveling a ways to get a good deal.

I definitely don't mind traveling a ways to get a good deal. I got $3000 in incentives and then another $1500'ish off on an ST2 in December. Given that the 2015's are on the way, I would think they'd be willing to make at least that deal on remaining cars. Note that $500 of the incentives were a 'Ford truck owner' incentive that I qualified for, and almost all of the incentive requires financing through Ford without taking their super special rates (which isn't a big deal if you are ok with re-financing through your bank later at a slightly higher rate than you can get doing the new financing). Edit to clarify: Special rate that was available from Ford was 1.8%, but give up $2000 in incentive for that. Rate from Ford with the incentives was 4.49% Rate from Bank for 'new' car (not refinanced) would have been 2.19%, but also lose the $2000 incentives. Re-finance rate from Bank after buying the car and financing through Ford for all the incentives - 2.47% So I took the $3000 in incentive off the price, financed through Ford at 4.49%, and will re-finance through my bank next month at 2.47%. Even if I had gone shorter term and taken the 0% financing, taking the incentive will be better in my case after doing all the math. Your mileage may vary (especially depending on your credit rating and stuff). The Locator fucked around with this message at 22:42 on Jan 29, 2015 |
