is that actually the case? I was under the impression they mostly did perimeter/personal security details, and that the ones who don't generally have SOF credentials already anyway

lmao if you had tried researching either of these things you'd know how sparse, conflicting, and generally unreliable all of the information out there is

even official navy documentation has given me conflicting information about the SEAL pipeline, especially vis-a-vis officer billets

Why not look for SPECWAR options in a different rate than pure SEAL where if you gently caress up you get kicked to deck for 2 years?

Have you ever considered going nuke? Its a special NEC, just like SO. More special even: SOs can cross to nuke, but nuke can't go SO. Think about it, you get huge bonuses, propay, and an engineering degree out of it!

I've looked into everything, SWCC doesn't do as much direct action which is what I'd like to get a lot of. I looked into EOD and diver with a genuine interest because, hell, they're badasses, and what they do is really cool, but I'm just not as interested in it as much.

My rate has an NEC that lets me literally go undercover as a spy or get foreigners to turn coat on their countries
I'd rather have a chance to do that over deck department.

lol that wanting to try BUD/S is trolling

I've seen this before, some people are so doggone pessimistic about the possibility of succeeding that it's like they think SEALs don't even actually exist, like they literally think no real person can get through. 20% is low but it isn't that low, 1 in 5 are not astronomically low odds, especially when it isn't actually gambling

I have to admit that's pretty cool, but not something I think I'd want to do. Out of curiosity though (because it really does sound cool and I'd like to learn about it just for the sake of it), what is it?

HUMINT/GROUND in the Intel Specialist rate. I went to school with a first class coming back for another NEC after 8 years of HUMINT and he spent his entire time in the Navy in the sandbox with a gun doing ~TOP SECRET~ business, never having been on a ship.

If "combat action" in the Navy means the same thing as in the Army it could mean actually shooting guys or it could mean being somewhere in the vicinity when some pissant fires off a single mortar round

e: not trying to imply that he didn't do anything he claims he did, that's just how the combat action badge works in the army, in practice.

Have you seen me?

I knew a guy your age, he was an athlete (college football, one of the big schools, got his degree there). He went to BUD/S and apparently half assed a few pushups while he was being filmed. They dropped him for that, he didn't quit voluntarily.

He washes airplanes now and is probably losing his mind.

Well that's my story.

BUD/S drops were annoying to be around. The aircrew school in Pensacola was full of them and they wouldn't shut up about it ever. Like a one-two punch of douchebag right there, especially the third classes who thought they were the kings of barracks support.

Same thing with IS school, there was at least 3 BUD/S dropouts to each class, and a few cool rear end undes.

I actually met a guy that the SEALs let go after he joined a team. Not sure what he did, he just said he "wasn't a good fit" but that it wasn't disciplinary. Only asked him about it because not too many spooks have FPJ quals that aren't TIO/TAC.
