okay so for what it's worth yeah George Lucas puts tonnes of racist stereotypes in his movies but part of the reason for that is that Star Wars was always meant to be like Flash Gordon or other campy early space poo poo. Those shows were full of racist stereotypes and I think Lucas essentially just wanted to make fun silly space poo poo and internalised those tropes without really realising the implications. Is it racist as gently caress? Yeah it is. Should he have known better? Yeah he's a grown-rear end man. Is Lucas himself a racist? I don't think so, I think he's really stupid when it comes to race, but I don't think he's a racist. Or, at the very least, it doesn't come from a place of genuine hate as much as idiocy. I mean I imagine hi finishing writing Red Tails and then smiling and looking at the script and going "Well, you did it George, racism is done!"

See, the trick that worked in the OT was all the weird rear end aliens spoke an alien language and got dubbed or you didn't know what they were saying at all. In the PT, now these weird aliens all talk english, and they're all racist stereotypes. If George had a chance to keep working on the OT, I'm sure eventually Sandpeople would be talking with Arabic accents.
