No, I just don't remember it because this show first started airing 12 years ago.

Having that weight on his shoulders broke Rusty, and its interesting to find out that, despite appearances, JJ couldn't really handle it either.

I used to throw season 1 and 2 on when I was falling asleep so I assimilated enormous amounts of the show. For instance, I think of Phantom Limb's thoughts on knife serration every time I have to cut bread.

It's funny, I'm like wait how did they die? Then I realized it was because of the cocoon being accidentally shot down by Hatered. Now it's even more funnier that anything Hatered does, things go worst. He was the one who basically blew up Gary's HQ of Spinx. He nearly killed him and Rusty off when they went to visit Lumpdromp Ville(?) and now he was sorta the reason why the Venture Compound is destroyed (granted it was the Monarch who technically did it but) because he called the firemen and forget that the LASERS defense was back up (well more like he knew but he shouldn't have been just sitting there) For all those who said Rusty is gonna waste all the money. Nah, it's gonna be Hatered whose gonna somehow gently caress it up all up again. I love the little details of the show gives you because it only took the knife for Monarch to figure out Phantom Limb was there. If you go back, you notice that when Monarch sets up the table he puts the plans of the Revenge Society to the side.

Personally I doubt that, Hatred seems to be trying his best to move past that aspect of his life, I still find it amazing that VB managed to make a character with Pedophilic tendencies a sympathetic character like they have with Hatred(helps that they've made it pretty clear that he has a deep loathing for those aspects of himself, and that they aren't his fault due to OSI screwing around with his biochemistry when he was a Super Soldier test subject)

(I know there is supposed to be an umlaut-u in there but...) I wouldn't know a good bread-cutting knife if you stabbed me with one, but I am aware (thanks to this show) that apparently there are knives out there that are pretty awesome. I do eat bread that requires cutting, so at least there's that. For what it's worth, I'm fine with serration. Gutter trash that I am, natch.

So are hour-long specials now the official way that Adult Swim handles fanbases of its most closely-watched shows while continually dithering on full seasons? They did the same thing with Metalocalypse. It's been almost four years combined since either show has had a full season, even though Venture Brothers has usually had long waits for seasons.

Did we learn what the Investors were doing? Was this episode also the culmination of their plan, or were they just like gangsters who went after all those people with nothing in mind bigger than a cut/their souls? And JJ had an inferiority complex as gigantic as Rusty's, it's just that it came out as reverence for Jonas and a desperate need to get close to him or hitch himself to Jonas' star. All that passive-aggressiveness toward Rusty has to be at least partially because Jonas actually loved Rusty and treated him like his son, while JJ will never get any affection. Him putting himself in Rusty's place or setting himself up as Jonas' true successor is just him trying to get love from his dead, distant dad who he never understood was a giant oval office. The success that makes Rusty jealous is just a byproduct of JJ's desperation. It's pretty sad, but Rusty and JJ hate each other because they each see the other as usurping what should be theirs, but in both cases it's garbage they shouldn't even want in the first place.

Plus they are powerless before their need to mention their twin obsessions of obscure music acts and old sci-fi into every episode. And they apparently like to devote tons of time to jokey poo poo like installing an airlock and intercom into the front door of their rickety office space (that they definitely don't even own in the first place) so they can instruct visitors to change into a cleansuit before entering. The show really is the most perfect expression possible of the muse they share. I hope they can make it forever and just end up recluses in their studio like those two millionaire brothers in New York who refused to leave and built booby traps into their mansion while stealing electricity from the neighbors.

Raskolnikov38 posted:It's two dudes in a tiny New York studio making the show by hand pretty much. Yeah, two guys write and storyboard the whole drat show. They have insane amounts of creative control and don't delegate any of the writing/plot to anyone else. This is the biggest reason why the quality has remained high. The other reason is because they aren't writing for the fans. They've said on numerous occasions that they write the jokes to make themselves laugh. They don't care how esoteric it is or if they think any of their fans will get it. They are just two guys amusing themselves with virtually no constratints. There's pretty much no way to ramp up the quantity of the show without affecting the quality somehow when it has evolved like this. I'm fine with that. If it takes two years between seasons but it remains insanely amazing, then that's the price of it. I do not want the formula hosed with. Adult Swim is great in that this sort of arrangement totally works for them. They are like the most laid back network ever. The same thing with NTSF::SD::SUV. It's not technically cancelled, but Paul Scheer is too busy for it right now. [as] has basically said "Hey, if you ever get around to writing more, we'll make them. Just let us know." What other network operates so awesomely like that?

New episodes come out just often enough so that you think "Oh, poo poo, that's awesome!". If they came out with 15 or 20 episodes every year, the quality would probably not be as high and it wouldn't be exciting, it would be status quo. I think Doc Hammer said roughly the same thing at a comicon panel once.

Not to mention I can't think of one season where Venture Brothers was meh or not as good. Each Season brought out it's own greatness. Like other shows tend to have a sophomore slump or that really bad season nobody likes (coughArchercough) but I can't say the same for VB. I may be crazy but I rather those two keep what they are doing because it works. Even if it does take 2 to 3 years for a new season.

Cojawfee posted:Do they work on other shows? i just don't see how it's possible to spend two years to write 8 episodes. They do more than just write it. Consider something like an episode of The Simpsons has about a year long pipeline from start to end. That's with a full team of people so stuff can be worked on in parallel. About the only aspect of the Venture Bros that they don't have a direct hand in is the final animation, but they still have to approve it and send back for revisions. They burn out after every season, hardcore. It's a marathon from start to finish for every season and then they basically collapse. So they write an episode, storyboard it, give direction on the animation, voice 3/4ths of the cast while directing the remaining cast members and then repeat that 8-13 times over.

They are the storyboard artists and background illustrators. Other shows have like 10 people doing each of the steps of making a cartoon show that take place before sending it to Korea. They do it all themselves. I am really going to miss the 60s-70s aesthetic of the Venture compound. They did such a wonderful job with every part of it.
