I'm surprised they didn't go half way and make it -3 like deployed equipment. As said, it does make it an actual choice. In my limited uses of templates so far, I would say that a lot of the time dodge will make you spend more orders trying to kill someone, but because of the nature of most template-carrying troops, it isn't a problem to just keep pursuing them.

I'm surprised they didn't go half way and make it -3 like deployed equipment. It's certainly a big change. My dodge luck has been abysmal lately, but letting ODD/camo models keep their bonuses over 50% of the time is a big issue for factions that lack good visors. Sure, you're revealing them, but they could easily be dodging out of sight or closer to a SF model, and you won't always have orders to give chase and finish them before the recloak or regain the offense in their turn.

Yeah it's pretty nifty, so far I'm a bit unsure what to make of it but I do like there's some options against HFTs point blank other than "Well I guess I'll try to take you with me." I did have a moment earlier today in a game that allowed a Riot Grrl team to dodge back with ease, the template was only just in range and the dodge back allowed other models to generate ARO if the attacking Kuang Shi kept coming forward. Was quite nifty!

So I played 3 interesting games today, all 300 pts using my Corregidor. Changed list significantly each time though. Annihilation: against Yu Jing, fielding Sun Tzu. Went second, excellent board control via an Intruder sniper allowed me to nullify him going first - didn't even bother docking him orders. My first turn I sent McMurrough to hack Sun Tzu to death. It was glorious. Killed a Hac Tao with a wildact link HRL (after it had passed an absolute fuckload of DA saves) leaving him in LoL, since the Hac Tao had been rocking executive order. At this point I reminded my opponent about coordinated orders, I felt a bit bad for him. So he tried to advance, and take his classified objectives, with 2 remaining heavy infantry. They faltered in the face of the wildcat link and other AROs. My second turn I cut him up, wiped his last models in the 3rd turn. Overall I lost about 75 points in wiping him out. Shouldn't have got careless with the final orders. Got 1 of my 2 classifieds, so did he. So not perfect but a decisive victory - 6-2. Armoury: against PanOceania, a few knights, Nisse sniper, missile and total reaction remotes, and plenty of cheerleaders. He went first, and again forgot about comd tokens. I don't think he was agressive enough, essentially just advanced everyone a bit and then didn't put any in suppression. So possibly a mistake or unfamiliarity with the new rules. I took out his sniper (in an excellent tower position) with Carlota Kowalsky sneaking on and climbing his tower. Then took him apart, moving my linked Wildcats up toward the central obj room. In trying to force me away from it, his father-knight got barbecued and his magister got immobilised+shotgunned. Real star was Carlota, who after 2 flanking kills, repaired a tsyklon to allow me to achieve my classified objective. 7-0, I should have tried to get more points by looting the armoury tokens, but I hadn't read the rules attentively and didn't realise I should. Caning, but he made a few strategic mistakes. Nimbus Zone: Nomads, including most of the Icestorm models, and a Szalamandra. This is a complex loving mission. I went first and since he tucked away in total cover, I mostly just went for objectives. I completely failed to stop his TAG on one flank. Sent McMurrough after it turn 1 (I chose to go first) and cocked up: I moved close, and said 'I'm moving up and throwing smoke, if you shoot it's a FtF'. Forgot he had a HFT. Although now I think of it, would that stop him firing the HFT anyway, if I got it off? In any case I took a hit and failed 2 consecutive saves against fire. [gently caress, I just realised, McMurrough has total immunity. God drat it. He should have lived, would have minced that TAG. gently caress.] So with him dead, my attempts to set up defensive repeaters failing, etc, his TAG ran rampant. I did get my objectives nicely done in the 2nd round though. So he nailed my coffin shut by possessing my Iguana with an Interventor, so as I put it 'there are 2 TAGs on the table, and neither of them is mine'. 6-0 victory to me despite getting slaughtered, I had 1x survivor and he had 1xcasualty. But since I started my 3rd turn in retreat, he got no 3rd turn. Ha! Pyrrhic victory. Great fun. Really ticked off about that McMurrough mistake there, that would have elevated him today from 'great if used right' to an unqualified 'great'. My mistake. Still a very interesting 3 games. Any questions about Corregidor, what worked and what didn't, ask away.

CanCon trip report! Third overall out of 48, and 'Best Event' (Shaolin Killing Spree) were my awards. Round 1: Three objectives were predeployed in our opposition's forward zone. Each could be activated with a short skill, by anyone. After turn one, you could call in a dropship via your LT with a WIP -9/-6/-3 test, pending how many objectives you had snagged. No Link teams of any sort allowed. I played on a table where all Forests were Nimbus Zones, with several sizable AoE forests. This resulted in a single Shaolin backflipping up the table like a mad dog, beating an isolated Mobile Brigada to death then flipping two objectives, before moving on to an Aguacile FO, Aguacile LGL, Aguacile, Interventor LT and Daktari, finally succumbing to a combi-rifle shot in the gut, his work done and mission accomplished. The rest was simply a matter of my Ninja with Tactical Bow mopping up the survivors, and the Zuyong calling in the dropship. I lost only the Shaolin that game - Something that will occur in a later round, too. Neither of us played sectorial, so both were unaffected by the lack of links. Thoughts on Round 1: Nimbus Zones are great for Close Combat armies. I killed more models in close combat in one game than I had in N2. Stealth is amazing. Round 2: Domination. The table's forward zones were divided into quarters - Having the most points in a quarter equaled a secured quarter. If you and your opponent had equal numbers of quarters, you both get 1 VP. If one person controls more, they get two. This was when they revealed that each mission had a 'hidden objective' - A bonus you would receive in the next round for completing something in the previous round. If you successfully called the Dropship in round 1, one model could deploy 8" further. This meant my Ninja started within my opponent's Forward Zone, no roll required. There were also some objectives for Specialists to activate in each quarter, worth 1VP each. I played against Pan O, and the men of the match were the Yaoxie with Spitfire and, once more, the Ninja with Tactical Bow. The Yaoxie used Shaolin smoke to ice a TR drone, then a ODD+Spitfire drone. The Ninja, in a commanding position, went for a merry romp, eliminating several specialists, drones, and order monkeys, before triggering a mine and leaving the table. Then a Domaru, a Yuzong, a Celestial Guard Hacker and Yuriko Oda all simply took over the jobs of securing areas and objectives. Thoughts on Round 2: Close Combat in N3 is huge. It takes more orders to progress there, but once you're there, it's almost a certain thing. All tournament, anything the Ninja touched evaporated in a fine mist. Round 3: I played on a Bug Hunt Corridor Table (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1812955737/bug-hunt-corridors), with the special rule no hacking through walls, including Support Programs. This already soured me, and then I found out the mission. Four drones were placed on the table with the following profile: MOV:0 CC:0 BS:12 PHY:13 WIP:16 ARM:1 BTS:3 STR:1 S:1 Combi Rifle, Electric Pulse Marksmanship 2, Total Reaction, 360 Visor, Auto Repair Protocols (They Automatically recover all STR and from any negative status at the end of any active turn) They were all positioned in corridors that meant that if you engaged them, you would be in their +3 range banding. The drones HAD to respond to Hacking with Reset, Close Combat with Electric Pulse, seeing a Marker with Discover, and anything else with Shoot. Killing two drones equaled 1 VP per turn, killing all four equaled 2vp. There was a further special rule, that Any attempt to leave your DZ with Infiltrate/Mech Deployment/Impersonate required a Phys check - Only Hidden Deployment was immune. Failure meant that your model was shot upon deployment, before the game even started. This meant my Ariadna opponent lost a SAS before the first active turn even began. My Ninja proved up to the task once more, simply moving into Close Combat with the drones - who HAD to respond with Electric Pulse, rendering her completely immune to anything they might do. Then my Ariadnan opponent had his first turn. He lost 148/200 points losing face to face rolls to the murderbots. I killed literally zero of his models all game, yet he was still tabled in turn 3. The only model I lost was my Shaolin. Thoughts on Round 3: The drones were way too vicious, especially against Ariadna. I thought this was the worst game of Infinity I have played, because I didn't actually play a game of Infinity. I would be proven wrong by... Round 4: I and three others were presently undefeated on 3 wins when we moved up to 400 points. I was paired off against one of my regular sparring partner from my games club. In fact, all undefeated players were from my club! The mission was to get your models off your opponent's board edge - Simple enough, except nearly the entire board edge was covered by sheer cliff faces. And the whole table was a Nimbus Zone. There was a further penalty - Each time you rolled a 19-20, the model that made the roll took a DAM10 hit. Further, Models were not allowed to deploy outside their DZ. We both groaned and swore, and got down to it. I was particularly vexed that Shinobu had just become pointless. Sun Tze won me the roll off, and after the most agonizing two hours of gaming, it was a draw. Highlights include: Opponent's Intruder HMG rolling a 20 to hit and killing himself on the second order of the game. Kuang Shi and Crazy Koalas having a hugging contest. The frustration of an entirely Nimbus Zone table. Ninja with Tac Bow killing nearly an entire link, after Nimbus + TO made discovery near impossible. Thoughts on Round 4: Stripping away abilities that people pay points for is bogus. Nimbus Zones are bogus. My opponent and I bonded over our shared trial by fire. Round 5: I'll... Draw a diagram for deployment. The Purple Dot is Shinobu Kitsune, right next to my opponent's DZ. One Nanopulser saw off 4/5 of a Yaogat link team, after she was finished with a Doctor Worm. Apart from that, Sun Tze had a commanding position where he happily stood and Flash Pulsed everything that walked into his LoS like some sort of Ancient Chinese Rave Party. It was a close fought game to the bitter end and ultimately came down to points killed, which Shinobu had done enough to secure a win. Thoughts on Round 5: Nimbus Zones Status: Still hosed. They completely neuter Link Teams, and advantage the Reactive player hugely. Dodging with no penalty versus templates is disgusting. Sun Tze is good at Flash Pulsing. Final Thoughts: A fun tournament, but the abundance of wacky rules, restrictions and nimbus zones made it feel like I was playing against the mission/table more often than my opponent. Well, at least the first two rounds sound like fun. Also, just finished putting the matte sealant on the last of my Order Sergeants. I've finally completed the oath I made ~14 months ago. But hey, tomorrow I can actually field a fully painted army for the first time ever! Even if it's just 150 points, since folks still want to play that level in N3.

For clarity: I had a blast playing in the tournament, and everyone I met and spoke to was fantastic. If I had to choose a Best Opponent, I couldn't. Atmosphere and quality of hobby in both table and play were incredible. I think some missions were perhaps too ambitious, and I'd go again, but I wonder how much of that is because I had great success. I'd be really interested in hearing the opinions of someone who finished middle of the pack.

Good to hear that you went dude! Western Australia represent! But yeah, those tables sound horrible to play on. A lot of the ones I play on are boring city based ones, which can get repetitive (and also don't allow me to show off my mad Ariadna skills for different terrain types), but having boards like that kind of take away the fun of the game, especially if they are really restrictive and basically remove abilities you've paid points for. If the Ariadna dude had of known that, he could have taken a conga line of cheap troops and fed them into the meat grinder/bot until they took it out. I can see a few people getting a bit upset by all that, but I am glad to hear you had a good time there! Also, Kanluwen is ridiculous, and getting shirty on Dakka Dakka as well, after people called him out over his whining over not being able to buy the Tournament Bounty Hunter; Kanluwen posted:Let me put something politely to you right now: Yeah, it's the moderation team who's in the wrong, lol.

Got a second game of N3 in with my CA. Turned to be much more manageable after bringing the points total down to 200. Ended up being run over by phoenix and his myrmidons. My Maakrep just could not keep up with all that ODD and lost a FtF roll after getting a crit in. That one wound on Phoenix was the only damage I managed to inflict. An all ODD and TO force is just brutal to deal with. Ended up being able to complete both my bonus objectives at least. Does a Charontid make a good LT? I really like the look of the newer model and want to branch out from my Morats with some more EI stuff after falling in love with the new CA starter and want to try using my Umbra as a hacker instead of the LT option.

I think if you're looking for a decent combat Lt to make use of his order and want a fairly durable Lt he's not a bad choice at all. I quite like the MSV options but that's more likely to put him in harms way to get use out of his visor and increase the risk of going LoL. Does CA have any CoC to lessen than risk? The Hacker+ option isn't too shabby either but you'll want to bring some repeaters to extend that net and I think that's something CA tend to lack if it isn't REM mounted. Pierzak is better suited to answering that question than I am though as he has more experience with the faction. E: Also small discussion on the main forums have pointed out something I didn't notice. Models with Berserk also get Assault as part of their ruleset (but not the other way around). You probably have spotted it before me Corbeau as I don't use them much, but Teutonic Knights get Assault. VVV Well spotted, I had completely forgotten about that skill even when staring at the profile. Flipswitch fucked around with this message at 16:22 on Jan 26, 2015 |

OB_Juan and I had a couple basic 150pt N3 games in over the weekend, we each won one and got our heads around a decent amount of the changes. Also our group's terrain has a rule where the winner of the last game prints and brings a billboard to put in the little terrain billboard space until the next time we play. Just don't let him get isolated/jammed/etc. Flipswitch posted:releases Yan Huo: 3/5. Badly designed (unrecognizable) weapons, PSR that's already slightly bent even on studio photo, I think I'll just grab the ML model from ChoKonnit and forget about the rest of the box. Ragik: 1/5. What the gently caress CB legs/body shape resembling bad models from 1ed, terrible base positioning (not a big deal but another thing to drill extra base holes for), enlarged(?) spitfire when AD troops should get compact version...
