Man I really, really want to be hopeful about this. Maybe the Curse of 2014 will be gone and games can go back to being good in 2015 and this will just be "Dragon's Dogma, but Online!"

Oh, All-Knowing One, behold me!
Despite some high-profile flubs 2014 was chock-full of great games, I am tentatively excited for Dragon's Dogma and hopeful that it will be released outside of Japan.

I'm trying to think of what could be behind a paywall without messing up the game, and I can only think of two things:
Character classes, and zones/dungeons. Possibly some sort of premium pawns, but I doubt it.

Maybe they can sell towels which will make your pawns shut up about being wet.

i would be okay with pawn hair styles and maybe like pawns based on other games/anime/famous people being behind pay walls

I'm really hoping we still get a proper sequel at some point. I mean, the game didn't sell poorly or anything did it? It seems to be pretty drat popular. You'd think Capcom would want to capitalize on that.

If they take a hint or two from the way Warframe does F2P then it could be a great service. But it's Capcom so I'm expecting PSO2 levels of incomprehensible.

Uh no it was definitely not popular or successful. It was also the most expensive game Capcom had ever made up to that point sooooo

It didn't do great. It seems popular, because, like many other Capcom titles, it got a hardcore following.
I remember when it was released pretty much everybody complained it wasn't multiplayer, because they thought it looked like a multiplayer game. Not enough people played it and most people expected a multiplayer game. Capcom making it a F2P coop game is no surprise based on the initial reaction and sales it got.

I don't think they needed to make it F2P, because word of mouth gave the game a lot of buzz and a normal sequel would have done a lot better. But maybe it works out and gives the franchise an even bigger boost, resulting in more Dragma.

I'm going to play Dragma. If you guys don't want to play more Dragma, you are a fool, but I don't need you to be the Dangan.

e: Vanilla Dragma already has some F2P elements in the form of buyable mediocre weapon packs, skins, Rift Crystal packs, etc. That's more or less what I'm expecting of this game, but probably with more of those things.

There were also armor parts, that had cool particle effects. But they were all made for lvl 30 for whatever dumb reason.
I could see alternative armor versions with some cool effects(and probably very slight situational buffs) as something you could buy with real money.

Between PS3 version existing and most likely hampering that next gen development and F2P, this is not going to end up well. At least it won't cost anything to logon and then bitch about it if it ever comes westward.

Yeah, just getting it on PC is enough for me. To be honest, a multiplayer DD is basically my dream game. I still haven't found a game with a combat/climbing system as satisfying - Shadow of Mordor comes very close, but it's not quite there.

You're imagining the original Dragons Dogma just with online co-op and I'd be willing to bet that's not what Dragons Dogma Online will turn out to be.
