The 'sad/down on their luck underdog who nothing ever goes right for' has been a thing in fiction for kind of a long time, guys! That's right, our ancestors enjoyed torture porn as well. Shame on them. I think one thing that does make Katia more relatable than typical fantasy characters though is the fact that, regardless of where the plot eventually takes her, the biggest obstacles she overcame weren't when she was trying to become some magic-wielding badass Chosen One who helps save the world, her most important victories have been all about just surviving and finding a job she's good at learning to be happy and have respect for herself, which are issues I'm sure plenty of readers deal with every day.

Yeah, I don't want to say that Prequel is a fantasy slice-of-life comic or anything like that, but it's refreshing nonetheless to have a fantasy story that's more concerned with the everyday bullshit of Katia McNobody rather than a grand adventure full of destiny and prophecy, except more interesting than it would be for, say, a peasant in Game of Thrones. There are books that take that approach, but not a lot of comics I can think of off the top of my head, other than Oglaf, which is a daily strip style of comic anyway. Hell, a fantasy slice-of-life comic sounds great, are there any of those about?

Also, the Indiegogo page has a video of me driving around and dropping off the first 2000-ish dollars worth of Legos. The rest is still pending as I wait for some shipments to arrive and some people to get back from vacation so they can actually return my calls. I am rapidly discovering that this is really the sort of thing that needs to be planned much further in advance; Indiegogo won't even transfer the credit card payments to your account until about a week after the campaign ends (though Paypal gets added as the campaign goes, which is kind of nice).

Interesting that the only other Khajiit so far (silent, angry barkeeps don't count) is still just running away from her problems, despite otherwise being perfectly confident and capable. She even says "a functional Khajiit runs away from danger, not headlong toward it." Which is sensible, but sounds like an excuse to not make things better for herself. Anyway, we'll show her. Once we've done this basic errand one town over, we'll have shown her!
