Victory and defeat are the same. I urge you to act but not to reflect on the fruit of the act. Seek detachment. Fight without desire.

Don't withdraw into solitude. You must act. Yet action mustn't dominate you. In the heart of action you must remain free from all attachment.

No. No way did they use cellphones for an FTX. That's moronic beyond words.

Anything south-west and east of Mt. Sorrel in Valcartier still gets cell reception usually. The base is slowly getting swallowed up by nearby towns so reception is only going to get better as time goes by.

My little incident happened because we only had 521s as issued comms, which I think doesn't need further explanation than that.

To be fair, they're probably more reliable than army radios and are way more functional. Also porn.

This is a regular occurrence for me. Doing support as heavy equipment we never have radios so if we're deployed administratively we use cellphones. If attached to a field unit as part of a fighting convoy we just make due with no comms at all with the rest of the convoy. It's terrible.

I've driven blackout with no comms in an MPEV(giant armoured backhoe), done a listening halt where my site was supposed to be only to have the entire troop of LAVs get bumped to a different task site. I was left in the pitch black with no comms and had to find the black track in blackout, get to an MSR and turn white light on and then drive around and find our FOB. All I had was a map, and they had earlier denied my request to get a compass earlier in the day. It was a huge pain in the rear end.

Also if I get the interview is there any way I can guarantee i'll be PPCLI in Alberta if I am accepted?

In my experience, your posting preferences usually apply. For your interview, it depends. They have this dumb arbitrary points system based on various parts of your application; for example, I didn't qualify for my re-application to infantry because I didn't have enough volunteer hours, despite the fact that I had retired the year prior as a master corporal with 7 years experience in the same trade.

The issue they're fighting about is the lump sum vs. lifelong pension compensation model. They're both flawed, the lump sums are too small and they're not handed out often enough, the system needs to be fixed and oh hold on here comes the government's official position:

quote:

Canada does not have a “social contract” to take care of its veterans.

Hm.

I wonder if that's a chargeable offense in any way shape or form under the QR&Os. All you're dong is telling people what's the government's official position vis à vis CF members.

Bonus points for doing it in CFs.

If not it's close enough they'd get you with something - the dude that was busking in downtown Cold Lake because housing is too expensive got run (with a section 129 I think) (to the prejudice of good order and discipline).

Got a link to the government quote? Or is it in the lawsuit somewhere?

flakeloaf

The full quote from the Defense filing is a bit more nuanced but basically it boils down to "Just because SRB said that this country should look after veterans doesn't mean we should ALWAYS look after veterans, especially when there are other Canadians whose needs need suiting too.

quote:

government, which by virtue of the "Honour of the Crown", creates a fiduciary duty on the
government's part under which it is obliged to place the interests of disabled veterans above
the interests of all other Canadians and as a result of which the government is prohibited
from legislating so as lo effect any policy change in regard to their compensation and
treatment. The defendant pleads that there is no written, defined, or articulated "social-
covenant" or "social contract" between members of the CAF and the government and
people of Canada which has those attributes.

"The defendant pleads that the statements made by Sir Robert Borden and the coalition
government in 1917 were political speeches that reflected the policy positions of the
government at the time and were never imended to create a contract or covenant. It is
further pleaded that at no time were these statements intended to bind future governments
and, in any event, the principle of parliamentary sovereignty would have prevented such a
result had it been intended.

Following World War One, the policy position of Sir Robert Borden and the coalition
government on the issue of Canada's relationship with veterans evolved, as did the policy
position of subsequent governments. The defendant pleads that parliament, within the
bounds of constitutional limits, has the unfettered discretion to change or reverse any policy
set by a previous government."

And yeah, preaching that in uniform is definitely a 129 and probably could be called disobey lawful command for overlooking the DAOD that defines what sorts of statements one can make to the media.

Kidding.

In all seriousness though, I'm about to graduate with a bachelors in Geography / GIS / Econ. I've been doing a lot of research and reading up on joining the forces, and I'm definitely interested.
Seeing how the only related trade is Geotech and they normally don't do direct entries, does anyone recommend some DEO trades? I'm thinking of Armored Officer but I'm really open to any suggestions.
