I'm going to assume that Lynch is making these statements in order to more easily get confirmed, until I see otherwise. But she will probably not be as good as Holder on some issues, that's for sure. Holder was a pretty good AG compared to previous ones.

Hahahahah

But seriously folks, i have run across a few books (on bookzz) that have had the links deleted due to receiving notices. If your that worried about it just use Tor, they use direct links to the file so it's not like your ip will be getting exposed a whole bunch. And considering the low rate of notices for people who are getting tracked down by large orgs like MPAA/RIAA, I doubt there are a while lot of people dedicated to tracking down textbook downloaders.

Moreover, until they start dropping prices on these drat things, gently caress em.

The textbook manufacturers are handling this more maturely than the RIAA anyway - they're shifting most of their stuff to their own digital service so you can't pirate it, and it's still a lot cheaper than the real book (though it's also usually limited access, ~180 days).

If you're the guy who's uploading the books/codes you might get hit, but no one has the money to bust every random college kid stealing his biology book.

It's the same reason lawsuits from the RIAA/MPAA for file sharers are way down, courts started demanding they provide real roof of who did it and they couldn't afford it.

Of the 246 amendments proposed to S. 1 (and of the forty or so that received consideration on the floor), four passed. The House will now have to reconsider the bill and pass it before Obama vetoes it. Here are those amendments.

S. Amdt. 3 to S. Amdt. 2 to S. 1 (Portman). Promotes energy efficiency.

S. Amdt. 29 to S. Amdt. 2 to S. 1 (Whitehouse). To express the sense of the Senate that climate change is real and not a hoax.

S. Amdt. 123 to S. Amdt. 2 to S. 1 (Murkowski). To express the sense of the Senate that all forms of unrefined and unprocessed petroleum should be subject to the nominal per-barrel excise tax associated with the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund.

S. Amdt. 126 to S. Amdt. 2 to S. 1 (Cornyn). To ensure private property is protected as guaranteed by the United States Constitution.

Being a Republican I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but my respect for Lisa has dropped pretty fast since October. This isn't even to actually set up the fund, it's only to express "the sense of the Senate" that it should be done. What a crock of poo poo.

SEC. __. SENSE OF SENATE REGARDING THE OIL SPILL LIABILITY
TRUST FUND.

It is the sense of the Senate that--
(1) Congress should approve a bill to ensure that all forms
of bitumen or synthetic crude oil derived from bitumen are
subject to the per-barrel excise tax associated with the Oil
Spill Liability Trust Fund established by section 9509 of the
Internal Revenue Code of 1986;
(2) it is necessary for Congress to approve a bill
described in paragraph (1) because the Internal Revenue
Service determined in 2011 that certain forms of petroleum
are not subject to the per-barrel excise tax;
(3) under article I, section 7, clause 1 of the
Constitution, the Senate may not originate a bill to raise
new revenue, and thus may not originate a bill to close the
legitimate and unintended loophole described in paragraph
(2);
(4) if the Senate attempts to originate a bill described in
paragraph (1), it would provide a substantive basis for a
``blue slip'' from the House of Representatives, which would
prevent advancement of the bill; and
(5) the House of Representatives, consistent with article
I, section 7, clause 1 of the Constitution, should consider
and refer to the Senate a bill to ensure that all forms of
bitumen or synthetic crude oil derived from bitumen are
subject to the per-barrel excise tax associated with the Oil
Spill Liability Trust Fund established by section 9509 of the
Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

That's not why the RIAA stopped suing individuals. They stopped because the lawsuits didn't decrease downloading and had a hugely negative PR impact.
