According to my friend in NC this one got Cars and Coffee kicked out of this location. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDXRMMOAWOM Just search "Cars and Coffee crash" on YouTube and you can kill a good hour. My guess about these is the rear end steps out, driver panics, target fixates, and slams on the brakes. So they ensure the rear end won't settle down and they'll go straight for the sidewalk.

Kicked out temporarily, at least. As far as I know, it's back on in that same spot. I'm sure it's a lot more locked down by now, though. People are idiots.

I'm amazed we haven't had a wreck at either of the local cars and coffee. As soon as it starts to empty people go stand by the road and cheer on idiots leaving. Just a matter of time. Police have started setting up but they can't cover all the exits and get distracted writing tickets.

Seems like that might be an argument to replace the tire barrier with a SAFER barrier so it doesn't 'grab' the car so badly.

Powershift posted:If this thing was street legal in the USSR, i wonder if it would be legal to import under the 15 year rule..... It doesn't have to be "street legal" anywhere at any point because "street legal" is a meaningless term. Canada Border Services regulates whether your poo poo can legally enter Canada, what you do with it afterwards is none of their concern. Whether your thing with wheels can be driven on public roads with a license plate is regulated by the provincial government and the Province of Alberta requires only that you have insurance and in this case an OOP inspection since it has not been previously registered in Alberta. So bring it over, make sure the windshield isn't cracked and the horn/turn signals work and start driving it everywhere. Alberta isn't one of those other poo poo provinces that require emissions testing or paying off French bikers or whatever. Well I guess since it has more than 2 axles, there's also whatever you need for a vehicle with more than 2 axles? I don't know anything about that. EDIT: I guess in theory CBSA could ask for some documentation to prove that the vehicle was manufacturered over 15 years ago, but seeing as how it's a Soviet era truck it shouldn't be too hard. Sebring has never been repaved, only patched and slightly rerouted. Everyone talks about how original it is and how there is a history to the place. You know, I get that. Something can only be original once. On the other hand the place looks like a dump and is about as smooth as a public street (or so I've been told). I think it comes down to this question: At what point does the car go from barn find to junkyard fodder? From about 1:40 on you can see the circuit. It's literally the old airfield and support complex. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lKRHVjQH60

Is there such thing as a limited slip differential for something that big? I'm assuming a locker is the only thing you could use and it would just want to go straight when you turned the wheel.

im not 100% sure but I think there is . As an aside I know that the Grinder monster truck used a locker up front an open diff out back to great success.

Torn Quad Jones posted:we have reached maximum bro truck! loving awful. Those are *probably* one of a few axles - rockwell 2.5 ton, rockwell 5 ton, eaton fuller heavy OTR axles, or a variety of loader and military spec axles made by Eaton, Rockwell, ZF, and a few other companies. They're widely available parts wise and sometimes even come stock with selectable lockers... and ARB and other vendors produce aftermarket lockers that can be installed pretty easily too. No excuse. Also, that suspension is loving awful by way of having about 2-3 feet too much lift. The control arm angles look pretty decent by mega truck standards, in fact the LCA angles are excellent, but the upper control arm lengths are shorter than the lowers which will result in pinion dive when the suspension compresses. Also the rear UCAs appear to slope upward to the diff end rather than being mostly parallel to the LCAs. I fail to see the point of putting that much lift in a vehicle only to make a monstrous jungle gym of a subframe that completely negates the increase in ground clearance.

kastein posted:loving awful. Detroit Lockers are also an option in just about any medium/heavy duty diff if you like being able to turn. And yeah, a diff in that market without the option of a selectable locker is almost nonexistant. There is a possibility they did the build with a banjo housing that doesn't have the clearance for the locker fork and collar and were thus stuck running open (I've been in that situation myself while doing a conversion- we couldn't make that clearance up without compromising the housing, so we did a Detroit Locker instead). Can't say I've heard of a clutch-type LSD in anything 2-ton and up, but I don't deal much in medium duty or off-road equipment, just heavy on-road trucks. We see the odd 2-5 ton but they're few and far between.
