Not without DFHack's help, unfortunately, but the framework for poisoned arrows is there.

The problem is getting the extract on the ammo in the first place. Using a reaction with a few specific hooks, the spatter-add script takes over and puts a waterproof poison "stain" on any bolts (or weapons!) you wish. Then, all you need is to break the skin to apply it to the victim.

Antmen corpses and associated antmen bits and teeth and pieces mixed with troglodyte corpses scattered around an antman campsite in the underground. A scene--a slaughter--the cause of which we will never know, ending lives who no one wrote stories of. The kind of thing only archaeologists ever get a chance to consider.

No, just kidding, everyone there has a full entry in legends talking about how much they enjoyed the smallest detail of their lives right up to the point it was ended by a bone spear or troglodyte claw.

The first glimpse into a cavern: the aftermath of a very successful troglodyte raid on a amphibi-man camp. Killed to the last manfrog.

Scattered about are corpses, caveman teeth and exotic weapons made of mushroom wood.

With multi-species forts, will intelligent pets/non-civilized animal-men or whatever (gorlaks!) be eligible for citizenship, or will it only be possible for other already civilized species to become citizens for now?
Yeah, there'll be various critters. What happens at the fringes I'm not quite sure yet -- we'd like the occasional animal person or gorlak, but certain intelligent critters should be less likely. Since we don't have entities for them yet, and likely won't be time-sinking ourselves into that, there'll probably just be certain exceptions that come to visit. The existing civilized ones are easier, so certainly humans, elves and gobs will be a more normal thing.

Question posted:

do you have plans on how to implement multi tile creatures graphically? for example, will a bronze collosus be a bunch of Cs in the shape of a collosus, or using existing characters to make different parts look like a foot or a head or whatever?
We've tried some things out, and it seems okay. It wouldn't be a big block of C's or D's, but more likely various symbols with distinguishable limbs and so on (not unlike the trees). There are lots of potential problems with that, and it's hard to get right in 3D for the tall humanoids, but I think it's possible to do something good without burning too much time on it. The snakes and blobs are the easiest, and things like dragons aren't so bad, especially because they can still vaguely pull off a 1 tile corridor even at large-ish sizes (the 16-tile-long-with-tail test dragon wasn't bad even with a 1-tile thick body, just a bit spindly, but not bad). The giants are trickier, though it would be funny to see a couple of O's stomping their way along the ground toward your fort. Overall though, it's something of a stylistic change and not one I'd be entirely happy with. The large trees have kind of forced it, though. The giants and dragons are like little squirrels now, and it would be best to change that, even at the cost of losing some of the imaginative weight of "that green D is very scary".

Looking over it, the trend isn't so strong as I thought: 2010 and 2011 are bad and 2014 bears out the same pattern, but Feb 2013 was not unusual (Feb 2012 was a release month and so doesn't matter). Feb 2008 looks like a release month also, based on the numbers for that year...

I have this weird issue where my dwarves won't smelt all of the adamantine strands in a stockpile. They'll smelt down to a single bin, but then stop saying they need strands. I tried forbidding/freeing the bin but it just cancels some dwarf's storage job. The furnace doesn't even recognize free adamantine strands, but I can see them in there.

Anyone have any ideas on my super serious and urgent problem?

People were talking about giants and other big critters being hard to kill nowadays due to something about their skin.

The following is the result of a cyclops trying to enter one trap tile which contains 5 large, green glass serrated discs and 5 spiked walnut wood balls.

I do notice that my axe dwarfs and marksdwarves have a difficult time dealing damage to him with their weapons, but it looks like spiked balls work great. They are supposed to be edged attacks with low contact area and penetration depth, but when edged attacks cannot penetrate a material due to armor deflection or hardness their damage effectively becomes a bludgeoning attack; i.e., each spiked ball in a weapon trap becomes a war hammer that is 250% bigger than the ones dwarves use, and which attacks three times.

I am thinking there might be a serious argument for the efficacy of silver spiked balls in trap design. I will update with future testing. And if you care about that sort of thing, spiked balls have a base value of 126 (the highest in the game for a manufactured item) and return 120% of their input materials when melted down; so, if you have even a single metal bar you can eventually make an infinite number of them.

e: The cyclops eventually suffocated from his bruised lungs, while ten dwarves beating his unconscious body with iron weapons and shooting him with metal bolts did not seem to faze him.

The same tissue thickness ratios are lazily applied to all creatures, regardless of size.

Tug your cheek for a minute. What's that, 1-2 cm thick? Now multiply that by about 150 and start counting how many feet of flesh you'd have to saw through to be able to properly stab a giant in the face.

Bludgeoning damage definitely seems like the thing to use, then, since a large enough creature could conceivably have thicker skin than the size of a slashing or stabbing weapon. Glass discs are great for making goblin salsa, though.

Captain_duck, I don't know if you take requests but there have been some recurring questions about getting a military setup both from scratch and maintaining it.

If you could devote a future video specifically to the military, that would be awesome.

Topics of recurring interest:
• The stuff in the Military Quickstart.
• Everything about uniforms!
. + Demonstration of how to apply a default uniform to a squad.
. + Demonstration of how to create a new uniform for the squad.
. + Demonstration of how to change from one uniform to another, without dwarves getting confused.\
• How to get your dwarves to spar and train
• How to get marksdwarves to practice archery
