Not without DFHack's help, unfortunately, but the framework for poisoned arrows is there. The problem is getting the extract on the ammo in the first place. Using a reaction with a few specific hooks, the spatter-add script takes over and puts a waterproof poison "stain" on any bolts (or weapons!) you wish. Then, all you need is to break the skin to apply it to the victim. scamtank fucked around with this message at 15:30 on Feb 2, 2015 |

Just a reminder that typically February is the worst month for DF donations, so if you're any kind of decent piece of poo poo, you'll put a little something in Tarn Adams g-string this month.

The first glimpse into a cavern: the aftermath of a very successful troglodyte raid on a amphibi-man camp. Killed to the last manfrog. Scattered about are corpses, caveman teeth and exotic weapons made of mushroom wood.

I can't figure out why my dwarfs won't make gold statues at the metalsmith's forge. They'll make gold crafts, but nobody comes to the forge when I add a statue. Is it some sort of special job that isn't metalcrafting? e: Apparently it was blacksmithing. Now I got attacked by a lone Lady Consort. I have this weird issue where my dwarves won't smelt all of the adamantine strands in a stockpile. They'll smelt down to a single bin, but then stop saying they need strands. I tried forbidding/freeing the bin but it just cancels some dwarf's storage job. The furnace doesn't even recognize free adamantine strands, but I can see them in there. Anyone have any ideas on my super serious and urgent problem?

People were talking about giants and other big critters being hard to kill nowadays due to something about their skin. The following is the result of a cyclops trying to enter one trap tile which contains 5 large, green glass serrated discs and 5 spiked walnut wood balls. I do notice that my axe dwarfs and marksdwarves have a difficult time dealing damage to him with their weapons, but it looks like spiked balls work great. They are supposed to be edged attacks with low contact area and penetration depth, but when edged attacks cannot penetrate a material due to armor deflection or hardness their damage effectively becomes a bludgeoning attack; i.e., each spiked ball in a weapon trap becomes a war hammer that is 250% bigger than the ones dwarves use, and which attacks three times. I am thinking there might be a serious argument for the efficacy of silver spiked balls in trap design. I will update with future testing. And if you care about that sort of thing, spiked balls have a base value of 126 (the highest in the game for a manufactured item) and return 120% of their input materials when melted down; so, if you have even a single metal bar you can eventually make an infinite number of them. e: The cyclops eventually suffocated from his bruised lungs, while ten dwarves beating his unconscious body with iron weapons and shooting him with metal bolts did not seem to faze him. The same tissue thickness ratios are lazily applied to all creatures, regardless of size. Tug your cheek for a minute. What's that, 1-2 cm thick? Now multiply that by about 150 and start counting how many feet of flesh you'd have to saw through to be able to properly stab a giant in the face.

Bludgeoning damage definitely seems like the thing to use, then, since a large enough creature could conceivably have thicker skin than the size of a slashing or stabbing weapon. Glass discs are great for making goblin salsa, though.

Genned a new world for some adventure mode, and when I started the opening introduction mentioned "A foolhardy soul might search for the missing children," or somesuch. After inquiring with the local Lady, I find that two children were stolen and taken to a nearby Dark Fortress. Has anyone successfully completed a rescue mission before? How does it tend to go? Edit: In hindsight I suppose it doesn't matter, because I just got gibbed by a surprise ettin. StrangeAeon fucked around with this message at 02:30 on Feb 4, 2015 |

I've tried, but in a world with any history I find that dark towers have such a low frame rate as to be incredibly aggravating to navigate. I don't think I've ever stuck it out all the way.
