OH HELL NO. I can't stand Microsoft keyboards or mice. The ergonomic ones turn me into a 20 wpm hunt and peck typist.

I stick with Logitech for mice, and if I could get out of the habit of spilling drinks constantly (and also break my cat of walking across the desk and knocking over any drink he sees), I'd have a nice mechanical keyboard. For now, I wind up buying a new Logitech K120 (basic keyboard) every 3-4 months.

Those 'split down the middle' ergo keyboards and most of their other 'ergo' products are rear end, but I've had some insane range issues with Logitech wireless stuff. I have a k400 that doesn't work unless I stand less than 3 feet from my HTPC, and my mother had a mouse that refused to work properly with the rx on the other side of the laptop not 17 inches away and their mice are loud as hell compared to Microsoft's.
Also the 1st gen MS optical with the little taillight on it is still the best mouse I've ever used (except the scroll wheels were kinda lovely on them), and I've never held a controller that feels better than the 360's.

Spotted what looks like what might be water damage on the ceiling in the kitchen today on my way out the door. Not looking forward to spending my afternoon crawling around up there trying to figure out where it got in and how to fix it. Yay home ownership. I'm lucky my house was built as a retirement home by the owner so it isn't built nearly as lovely as the rest of the houses around here.

How's the roof? If it's old enough to start leaking it's probably time for a new one, unfortunately.

Not that hard, I think I have 5 grand or so into mine including all the tools, a whole roof worth of new 3/4" CDX, and two pallets of 25 year architectural shingles. If I had done it at a sane-person time of year instead of starting in November, alone, it would have taken me maybe a couple weeks working evenings and weekends by myself. Hassle your brother and any friends you can into helping and it should go pretty quick.

Roof looked good last time I was up cleaning gutters a month or two ago. House is 7 years old so I'm guessing it's a small leak around a vent tube or something, should be easy to spot.

Friday morning at 8 am another one was delivered to my house. That was by far the quickest turnaround on any product I've ever had. Apple and Google have also had really great turnaround times. Nintendo was one of the worst. I had a nexus phone that the mic stopped working 3 months into ownership. I called Google and they sent a new one overnight with a return box for the bad one, it was a 12 hour turnaround time from call to new phone.

We just had our roof done by a roofer a friend of my wife's works at. The owner guaranteed us that the pitch was enough for shingles (compared to a modified flat roofing), and that we'd be better off because the shingles have a much better warranty. When the workers balked at using the shingles it should have been a sign, but they went ahead at the insistence of the owner and after completion it promptly failed inspection. And guess what? Upon further research we find out from the shingle company the warranty is void under a certain pitch. Besides that the quality of work was poo poo, the flashing in most areas looks like it was done by a two year old.

Luckily for us we haven't paid them a dime yet, but now it's turned into a royal pain in the rear end because lawyers are involved and yadda yadda yadda gently caress motherfucking contractors right in the rear end. The one thing I can't do myself is of course hosed up by someone else. Never fails.

(and can't post for 11 years!)

Goddamn, this insurance poo poo is pissing me off. Just spent 2 hours on the phone and got pretty much nowhere.

The hospital I went to in October was shown as in-network on my insurance website for my plan. Even though they thought it was serious enough to put me in the ICU, the claims have been denied. They forward anything related to mental health to Magellan Behavioral Health.

Magellan keeps denying the claims, saying they're not related to substance abuse. Blue Cross says it is, so they kick the claim back over to Magellan. The hospital also coded it as substance abuse. The Blue Cross rep called Magellan twice on my behalf; the first rep told her the hospital was out of network (which is not what my explanation of benefits says - the EOB from Magellan states it's a medical expense, not behavioral), the second rep said it wasn't in any way related to behavioral health (the claim was coded as related to substance abuse). Magellan doesn't have any way to look up an emergency facility on their website, and I had no loving clue the claim would be outsourced anyway - I'd never heard of them, and nowhere does my policy state Magellan handles that part of my medical insurance.

So I've got two bills sitting here. One for $30k (for the hospital), one for $1k (for the ER doctor).

The Blue Cross rep told me she saw a lot of coding issues with the claims as well, but both her and her supervisor don't understand why Magellan keeps kicking it back to them.

I filed a complaint with the Texas Dept of Insurance against Magellan, and may wind up filing one against BCBS as well. The BCBS rep was incredibly helpful though, and on her 3rd call to Magellan, managed to get an appeals address out of them, and what needed to be included in the appeal (full medical records from the hospital :wtc: )

That's the thing, if you are a reasonably skilled person you can probably do anything you put your mind to. Roofing is not difficult, just hard work, and most people need more exercise so get to it!

I've never seen anyone recommend shingles for less than about a 4 pitch roof. One manufacturer says a 2 pitch is alright, but if it's under 4, you need two layers of underlayment instead of one which is their way of saying you shouldn't do that, but if you insist, here's a way to make it last (barely) past the warranty period.

I think Rooves are the worst part of house ownership. Maybe because they cost so much and are the only bit I cant do myself (I'm not working at height without shitloads of scaffold)

Mine is 65 years old. The joists are perfect and the underlay is fine but the clay tiles are now hosed along with much of the flashing and all the pointing on the top and edges.

Ah yeah, I had the Geo Prizm in mind. Same basic idea though, you don't need much power to do decent speeds if the car weighs as much as a tin can. Just don't expect world record shattering top speeds.
