Fuuuuuck no. I did that for three whole seasons. (okay, one and a half - I genuinely enjoyed the first season and liked a bit of the rest) That was enough.

By the way, suppose I finish my PhD, decide I want to go into policy, and it becomes increasingly obvious I need another professional degree to really fit in (and I find somewhere which will pay me to go through it). What would be the best way to go? MPA? MPP? MPAff? JD (no)?

That's like a pretty good meeting time though. You have a meeting, and then you go drink. Not that it's worth it; they're democrats.

seems to me that business programs are only worth it if it's like top 10 (not dissimilar to the T14 law schools?) and you're mostly there for networking anyway

kinda related, my school has a computational linguistics programs for cs and ling majors (i'm both, like a nerd) that's just an additional year with half off tuition for that year + alumni scholarships. i know grad school is generally a waste if other people aren't paying for it, but other people would mostly be paying for it, so i guess i'm asking if this is a dumb idea just from the get-go. my advising meeting is next week but some additional thoughts along the lines of "don't do it you idiot" or "might be okay" from internet strangers would be welcome i guess.

during my phd i asked one of my professors from the business school that is pretty well-regarded on whether i should do anything of the sort, and he said it's not worth it because anyone that wants you to get into that will either provide you the means to acquire any certs/etc or not require it because of your degree anyways. fwiw his business classes were "tough" for the mba's but really simple poo poo and thats pretty much the business world for you.

I would love to do that, but I honestly don't have the mental capacity to write that and do my other duties.

I'm doing a lot of work with admin/local public officials through the student organization, though. Maybe that will be a good lead if my other policy postdoc app falls through.

I'm not sure if MPA's and their ilk are as easy on that level. I do wonder if an MPH would actually be beneficial, considering that my science background is Physics rather than life sciences, and a lot of science policy is more life sciency than physicsy.
