I really want to find out if Windows (Phone) 10 will be losing Rooms, given that feature loss with version increase is the norm. I'd really like to find out before I upgrade my phone, rather than completing the upgrade and then realizing I've lost all access.

On a personal note, I've already started moving over to a straight shared calendar with my wife and just using mms for group texting. From my usage, what I found was that if I wanted to share a picture I was always just MMSing it to my wife anyway. Likewise texting to my daughter/wife. I guess I think the feature wasn't developed enough for my needs to use it over existing inertia?

I set up a "Family Calendar" on my Windows Phone, shared with my wife using her iPhone. For all appointments that she creates, it routinely screws up the timezone -- sometimes showing them a day early on my phone, sometimes showing them 8 hours out from where she set them (we live at GMT+8). Does anyone know about this? How to fix it?

Here's my perspective. a) Group texting sucks b) I don't have mms c) shared calendars & pictures & text in one place. Room pictures already lost captions in the 8.0 => 8.1 downgrade, and now the feature is probably going to be dropped entirely since nobody wants to talk about it. I wonder if any origial WP7 features at all will make it to W(P)10.

Yeah, I now, Microsoft is making it hard to remain on board this platform as an enthusiast. You could pick up a used 920/830 for 120-300 from swappa or Amazon? Both of those would be hardware wise huge upgrade from the 900 and then do a proper upgrade once the 940 (god I wish it would be a 1040 but that looks unlikely) comes out.

New Awful app now less awful. Thanks man! The forum listing is still all cacked up, but if no one else is experiencing this I'll chalk it up to my phone being bizarre! Either way, much more useable now.

You'll probably have to uninstall/reinstall to refresh that list (it's stored in a database, and I took out the way to refresh it ), so it will always be wrong until you do that, or I make a refresh function.

Reinstall fixed it... for the first opening only! After that, back to the weird reverse ordering. I'm not so fussed about it. The crazy hang-time is gone when navigating back from threads, so everything else I'm happy to get used to as a personal idiosyncrasy of my device.

One of the major defects with Harmony Music right now is that intermittently & unpredictably, background audio will pause when the screen turns off. At first I thought it was just low memory devices or battery saver, but it happens with higher end devices and when plugged in. One hour it'll work and then you'll go to play something and it'll pause as soon as the screen times out. Tap the screen back on and it starts playing again. Because it's unpredictable (and never happens in the VMs) I can't reliably reproduce it nor have I been able to inspect the app in the debugger while this is happening. If any of yall wpdevs itc have any thoughts on this it'd be most appreciated.

So enough complainy-pantsing about the poo poo state of affairs with W(P?), nothing but negative Nancies and Debbie downers all up in here. Turn those frowns upside down and think of the best thing MS could ever do to make W(P?) the best and most viable mobile platform on the market. Hardware-wise I think generating a name for robustness and solid resilient phones without a case (water, knocks, drops) is something that's missing from the market. Think 920 vs. 1520 - size aside the heft and chunk of the 920 makes it so much more useable, even than an iPhone or Galaxy of the same size which feel too flimsy for the long haul. I personally love chunky plastic, there's too much metal trim and delicateness going on elsewhere. So, before more on W10 for phones, three two one go.

wookieepelt posted:I think this is where MS can set themselves apart. Make a 1030, make it waterproof and durable as all hell. Add all the hey Cortana updates and whatnot, and reinvent Windows 10 phones as the photographer's phone. Microsoft/Nokia needs an identity for their flagship phones. They are getting the low end based on price for performance but their high end excursions have been far more mixed. The 830 for example wins at neither price or performance compared to android offerings. Waterproofing is probably not worth it as its costly from a design perspective and ends up not being a huge differentiator (or at least hasn't been a great boon for sony yet) Photography and Camera's as the high end identity would be viable but Microsoft really needs to double down on it. The iPhone6 and Galaxy Note have mostly caught up to Lumias even up to the venerable 1020 in image quality (minus lossless zooming). Lumia camera 5s speed improvements are a great start but a Lumia 1030 with all the newfangled doodads (phase detection autofocus, xenon flash, oversampled lossless zoom and comparable shot to shot times) would probably take the crown again. Make this phone and DON'T price it at 299 on contract like the 1020 when it came out (and make it certainly cheaper than Iphone6 and the android flagships off contract) and they may have a chance. This would probably be a loss leader proposition so Microsoft would have to be willing to eat some losses to gain higher end marketshare particularly with the hopefully competent marketing campaign the attach to this flagship launch. More likely, we'll see the Lumia 940 launch in September on ATT only in the US at 199 on contract and 650 off contract with the carriers expected to do the marketing.

The newer iPhones already have good enough cameras to dominate flickr's top camera lists, so what segment of the market are you actually chasing? You might win over a few photo gurus but you're not going to win over fashion oriented users who want a good-enough camera. Plus, as I have previously posted itc, Microsoft appear uninterested in competing on quality and seems to prioritize competing on price. Cheap Windows Phones won't be able to win over anyone who prioritizes photography or fashion (aka, the majority of iPhone users). Being the "web service integrated" and "social media integrated" phone was a great angle. Of course since it was great, many of those features have now been removed from the platform.

Speaking of the music app, this seems kind of nuts: Buy a music pass, get a free phone. It's a 635 which is definitely on the lower end, but it reviews okay. I'm actually tempted since I need a temporary phone until new flagships come out anyways.

This is why I got an XBox music year pass, though they had the 520s at the time. They accidentally sent two, which I never used. I gave them away to a friend and my mum which they then couldn't unlock as they were never registered with a T-mobile sim, whatever the gently caress that means. Point is don't be bought by a lovely phone. Would you get a year pass without a phone thrown in? If no then don't.

Drastic, found a weird bug! After visiting project.log, every forum is now called project.log when I visit it. Threads have the right titles, the forum listing is fine (apart from previously mentioned screwed up order), just individual forums showing the odd name. Disappeared on restart of the app. Reproducible, though.
