The picture was either in WD or the Journal (or maybe it was back on the 40k listserv? I thought it was in a magazine, though). It was the old RT-era Rhino and it was RT beakies.

Someone's going to have to explain why you would want chromed out plastic minis. I can only assume GW did this as a means to get more money out of unknowing hobbyists. Also, chrome out your necrons. Bonus points for Harley-Davidson gear.

The worst thing about chromed plastics is that it is superficial only. Meaning all the sprue connection points remain bare plastic when you snip the parts out. You can't even use the chrome as a base layer since you need to touch all those bits up.

I think the Chromecrons were from a staff party or something where they were giving the things away as prizes. Ultra chrome crons would look great but I can imagine it being a bitch to paint and touch up.

Cast them in pure chromium. I have no idea how hard/impossible that would be.

You could actually electroplate pewter miniatures with chromium/silver/gold/whatever, just plonk them in a metal salt bath with the mini as the negative cathode and the donor metal as the positive anode.

That's basically how they did the original Terminator skeleton for the movie. Paint it with a copper paint solution (REALLY high in copper), then just electroplate it using the copper as the magnetic attractor. You probably could do it for tabletop necrons in a similar way.

I know in some of the terminator movies they use a spray on metal suspension called Alclad (or similar to it), which you can get from most good model stores. It's not quite chrome level, but it buffs up to a really shiny finish that's way better than regular metallic paints.

When I frequented Gundam/figure modelling forums everyone there swore by it. Probably not the best for wargaming though as it is supposedly quite fragile.

I'd paint a meaner titty than that and I've been avoiding painting skin like BTP been avoiding quality. The only time I painted something this bad when frustration struck me and I sprayed a mini.
