Mississippi! Only two this week of note. 1 Former Republican state Sen. Tim Johnson recently announced he was going to run for Lt. Gov. - as a democrat. Why? Because we haven't expanded Medicaid for all Mississippians yet. And yes, he is an Elvis impersonator. 2 The state legislature has just finished its "design bills" period and has gone on to "let everything die in committee" period.

The strip was back to its old wacky hijinks in less than a month. Uhh what? Please tell me this is hyperbole

edit: ^^^ Flaskraven posted:Uhh what? Please tell me this is hyperbole if anything he's underselling it. Dimensions on these keep changing, if this is too big I'll edit it. Lee Judge is the worst offender with his gigantic 1440 x 1120 images. Higher wages, better benefits? Uniooonnnsss! One of my least favorite jobs was being an administrator for a slimeball that wouldn't accept subcontracts from any builder that used union labor. I got several proposals from a Chinese company that was putting up new apartments in the city, I was told not to pursue bidding because, "Nah, they'll just give it to the Chinamen!" Yup, "Chinamen" is still used in AD 2015 in NYC.

Yeah, most DEBT cartoons are about clumsy metaphors, where you get some random object or animal with a DEBT label and you're expected to think said random object or animal is bad. Here it's not a metaphor, it's more like "here's a thing that's happening, and one consequence of it we don't talk about often".

fade5 posted:Okay, who sent out the ISIL=Hitler talking point to the usual hacks, and are you dumb motherfuckers seriously just figuring that poo poo out now? Because Kobani's been a miniature Stalingrad vs the advance of I'm pretty sure it started with the anniversary of Auschwitz, which featured a bunch of speeches by the Never Again folks, so Hitler was fresh in the zeitgeist. Then the news channels feature non-stop footage of ISIL burning people alive because it was a slow news week. Thus, two things happened with the added bonus of criticizing Obama because he's not fighting The New Hitlers hard enough. And that's how everyone became Ted Rall.

fade5 posted:If this was pointing out the astronomical costs of the F-35 I'd agree with it, but US airstrikes have actually done a shitton of good against ISIL. That's a British cartoon about British airplanes being expensive while simultaneously the NHS is saying that they literally have to reject the new budget the government is proposing because they cannot pay their doctors and keep their hospitals open with the funding cuts that are being proposed, and schools saying that with the funding cuts they're being given they are having to fire teachers and increase class sizes because they have already saved 100% of the money they can save that isn't in wages. It is a good cartoon about Britain being torn apart by their lovely austerity-obsessed government while the PM tries to use his war against ISIS as a way to get reelected so that he can continue eviscerating the British state.
