Almost nobody on the team is playing well. When your stars are pulling in .1 WS/48 and it only gets worse from there your team is bad. It's not that they're hurt. They just aren't that good. Being hurt makes their not goodness look worse.

So if Whiteside has been the best player in 2015, why aren't the Heat winning very much? Clearly, Whiteside is a good player who deserves minutes and all that, but the Heat games I watch he seems to sell out for Rebounds a LOT and crashes the offensive glass A LOT that requires other players to cover transition D. He does finish around the basket really well and he is a super-high motor guy, for sure. But this sorta looks like someone who is getting overrated by advanced stats by a healthy margin. I wonder if he'll be a "pump and dump for assets" guy?

Its because Wade, Whiteside, Bosh and Deng have played a total of 28 mins together this whole season. Thats not even counting McRoberts. Miami has been banged up like hell this season and I don't expect anyone to really care but no one has been bit as hard by the injury bug this year except maybe the Thunder (They are at least healthy now.) Also we literally have the worst point guards in the league so whenever wade is out its like a gaping wound.

Its just really frustrating to be a heat fan right now because we have no idea how good this team really is because we have barely ever seen the whole team together. I mean that might just be how its going to be with wade but the rest of the guys shouldn't be that injury prone. As for Deng he has been pretty good this year when healthy. He has been injured though a large part of the year and just playing through it.

I also don't believe Whiteside is being overrated by the stats believe it or not. If you look at when the heat are able to make runs and score and close the gap in the lead its always when he is on the floor. The second they take him out the other team starts a run.

There are just a lot of breakdowns everywhere and it leads to opponents shooting a very high percentage. Some combination of poor effort, lack of communication, lack of continuity, and just bad play overall.

Bashez posted:

I don't agree with this at all. Whiteside is an obvious example. Even with terrible guard play he can still produce.

I mean in terms of producing wins. Hassan will get his rebounds/blocks regardless of what the guards do, he'll get a few post ups and face-up jumpers, and he'll get some putbacks on offensive boards. Most of that he can do regardless of who's playing at guard but it doesn't mean the team will win more games just because he's putting up 20/20.

But the Spurs were missing Lenard and Splitter right? It's a little different when you still have the other 3-4 top players on your team playing and you have an established system with no new players from last year. The Spur aren't top heavy they are incredibly deep.

Leonard, Splitter, Parker, Bellinelli, Mills have all missed significant time.

Daye and Anderson have started 12 games combined for the team. They got real thin there for a bit.

I agree that it affects the Spurs a lot less than other teams but Parker and Splitter have been pretty awful in their returns. Kawhi was playing with blurry vision until he tore a ligament in his hand; which may or may not explain his terrible shooting numbers over that stretch.

The Spurs have been lucky with Duncan.

More Larry Bird trash talk stories

quote:

“One of the first times I ever played against him, I went out for the opening tip and I went to shake his hand. He just stood there and looked at me stone-faced with his hands behind his back,” Wilkins said recently.

“I was like, ‘Whoa.' Then we were getting ready for the tip and he says to me, ‘You don't belong in this league, Homes.' I couldn't believe it, but it happened so fast, I didn't know what to think.

“Then they had the ball and I was on him and he said, ‘I don't know why they got you guarding me, Homes. You can't guard me.' Then, whap, he hit a 3. Then he came down again and said, ‘They made a mistake putting you on me, Homes,' and he took another 3.”

Getting into the story, Wilkins began to act things out with his facial expressions.

“So now I'm hot,” he said. “I'm hot. I mean, I'm steaming.

“Then a little while later, I came down on a break and he was backpedaling. I just went right after him. I jumped up and he tried to challenge, but I took that right through the rim. He fell and hit the basket support.

“He got up and said, ‘I like you, rookie. You've got(guts).' I was happy for a second, and then he said, ‘But I'm still going for 40 on you tonight.' ”

He then paused the story, stepped back and smiled.

“But I got him,” Wilkins said. “He only scored 39.”
