Is it the one where the wifi won't turn on after using the hotspot? The status gets stuck at "Turning on Wi-Fi" or something like that?

If it is and you're rooted, delete or move to storage the wpa_supplicant.conf file from /data/misc/wifi/ then reboot. If it's not that I can't help you.

Turns on and connects to either of my APs apparently, but then it doesn't fetch an IP address from DHCP, nor does setting a static one work. I end up with the Wifi symbol and the exclamation mark (--edit: reboots didn't help). I factory reset the thing, now it works again. Of course, such bugs always happen at the dumbest times.

this is way motorola is a failing company. first google bought htem and then lenovo. motorola makes really awesome hardware, but they are horrible at software. that is why they have an unlocking feature which verizon shuts down. they let the real software guys use their awesome hardware. the droid doesnt even use the radio receiver. why have it if you do not use it.

quote:

The problem is they say things like this:

"We're counting on your participation in the private community -- so please take part!"

"Your input is very important to us."

"Thanks so much for your participation! We really appreciate your time and insights."

But the behavior here shows a clear lack of appreciation for our time. They want us to participate in the private community, but they don't want to participate themselves? This isn't about starting the soak test, per se, but about participating in the private community they expect us to take time out of our days to participate in. This is my first soak test, and I'm not impressed. I don't care that they got things starting forum-wise before the rollout started, but I do care that they won't say boo about anything. This is private, we already are bound in some way by an NDA (though I imagine that it lacks any real teeth to punish violators), so why can't they just show us they are here?

I work in software, I understand how hard it is to give expected release dates for software. But that doesn't preclude you from speaking with your customers. They aren't giving us some amazing gift by letting us participate in this soak test. We all paid for the right to be here by purchasing their product and offering to take time out of our day to give feedback and help them out. The least they can do is show the appreciation for our time that they claim to have.

Brandy does in fact, in my experience, contribute to Getting Down.
AT&T pushed an update to my S5 a few days ago. I now have KitKat 4.4.4! Oh, and the update managed to break smart network switching, so I lose about 10% battery an hour. And since I went a few days without really noticing, I managed to nearly go over my data usage, since I apparently wasn't ever connected to WiFi.

The fix? Just don't use smart network switching. Exact words from AT&T support, told me its only affecting a few people, so it isn't a high priority.

There are ways. One of the more popular ones is to order a Maxx, have it shipped to a trusted XDA poster (who's been doing this for dozens of people) who will ship it to the US for you. Some dude's also reselling them from Puerto Rico on ebay.

I didn't do either of these, fwiw.

My iPad would kill its entire network stack when connecting to my AP. The fact that iOS 8 shares wifi configuration over icloud with OS X made it doubly maddening, since I couldn't point the iPad at a second, working, shittier AP while pointing the rMBP at the nice AP without MASSIVE amounts of janitoring.

There's a difference between an anonymous source tipping off a news site that a soak is going out and posting quotes directly from the private forum.

I, for one, would like to continue having soak tests and they may nix them altogether if they feel they can't control them enough.

Well, in one sense its not a big deal. I mean, thousands of kids are dying from preventable diseases. On the other hand, the phone used to work fine.

Did you not read what I wrote? It doesn't matter that the NDA is unenforceable. If they find too many people are violating it, then they are likely to end the soak test program once and for all.

It was actually specifically called out about discussion of a soak test in a private community is what they were having issue with. So, to me, that says either SA or XDA.

I'm in the car running Waze around 1.5-2 hours everyday. Will having the phone connected to a charger the entire time it's in the car have any long term effect on batter life? Would it be better to avoid charging in the car, only charging once a day over night? I just got a new phone, and it's battery is actually decent enough that on most days I can leave the screen on in the car w/o charging and still not need to charge at all until bedtime.

HTC was already protecting you as a customer by not having a dumb "feature" like Smart Networking. Samsung does this all the time where they make a feature that is essentially a toggle between expected normal behavior and some wacky alternative and they call the normal behavior "Smart [feature]". HTC on the other hand would just make the usable state the only available state and just leave it at that, but then they can't claim to have both networking and smart networking.

So with the whole "carriers must legally unlock or face prison time" extravaganza, I got my ATT unlock code and did it today (Note 4).

Ever since then its randomly rebooted like 8 times in the past 5 hours.

WTF. Samsung'd or something more sinister? It had never, not once randomly rebooted before. SIM unlock? Reboot city. Nothing else has changed.

I've had dozens of devices, primarily Samsung, unlocked and never experienced that. It's likely unrelated and coincidental.

Try a factory reset, it'll keep the unlock.

I understand this argument. But you can always turn off the "smart" feature and use Tasker to do it for you. It's the only way to get consistency across different devices if you switch phones a lot.

Split-screen multitasking work beautifully on my S4, that excuses Samsung's other 90% gimmick "smart features".
