I still say if this hadn't turned into Superman being a right wing dickhole it isn't a horrible premise for a comic. I'd read a story about Superman just walking around helping folks out. Pulling cats out of trees, helping poor folks get jobs, whatever, ain't gotta be superpowered crises.

So would I. The idea of Superman just taking a break and walking helping people sounds like something he would do. However, it should not be a 12 part storyline, as it makes him look like sort of a dick if he ignores everything else and just walking around.

Man has superspeed, if some poo poo pops off he can fly away and fix it and be back before Little Jenny even realizes her kitty is up in the tree.

Yeah, but Grounded if I remember correctly he was ignoring everything other than his stupid walk. I meant that it could be a couple of issues of him doing the mundane stuff and then him a couple of him doing the big. However, that ignores an important part of his character as it would involve him being just Superman and not Superman and Clark.

No, he wasn't.

Grounded was dumb, but not that dumb. He said if something major happened, he'd fly off, deal with it, then go back to the exact spot he'd been on the walk, and pick up where he left off.

It's hard to talk about Red Son, because Millar's political statement isn't particularly coherent. But I've always read it to say that Superman wasn't evil, any more than communism is evil. In Red Son, the source of evil is the pointless conflict between societies. The world is prosperous and happy when Superman runs all of it, and it's prosperous and happy later in the book when Lex runs all of it - it's the destructive conflict between the men and their ideologies that leads them to do horrible things. Lex's Bizarro justifies Superman's brainwashing of dissidents justifies Lex shrinking Stalingrad. US missiles in Turkey justify Soviet missiles in Cuba justify US development of ICBMs.

In that light, Superman is still the hero of the story, because he realizes that the conflict needs to stop, and he concedes. He's the bigger man - he can back down for the greater good, whereas Lex would rather be dead than red.

It's a shame Millar didn't apply as much effort to writing the women in Red Son as he did to writing the politics.

Details on some of the June comics

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/02/14/a-few-june-mini-relaunch-details-from-dcs-retailer-roadshow-in-orlando/

quote:

Told to retailers at the Orlando DC Retailer Roadshow yesterday…

The new Robin: Son Of Batman title from Patrick Gleason is described as a Johnny Quest-style book, though with very different adventures. Part Johnny Quest and part How To Train Your Dragon, one retailer described it as like Stanley And His Monster.

We Are Robin shows how Batman has so many Robins. It’s how Batman has affected the youth of Gotham, the very existence of Robin is now being crowd sourced. Rather Brat Pack…

Section 8, the insane superhero team from Hitman who are getting their own title, will hit up Superman, Batman and all the iconic DC characters to be their eighth member. Who will say yes? Hint, probably not Kyle Rayner.

Prez is socially conscious and should play well in an election year. It was said to have a Steve Gerber Howard the Duck feel.

Gene Luan Yuen, the writer of American Born Chineseis said to bring his unique immigrant history experience to Superman as a Kryptonian born American.

Bryan Hitch‘s long-in-the-works full first issue of Justice League Of America was shown. It doesn’t invalidate continuity but isn’t beholden to it

And both the new Batman Beyond and Earth 2: Society comics and the Darkseid War crossover will spin directly out of their appearances in Convergence.

Sounds like a messed up kickstarter. 500$ lets you name the next Robin. 800$ lets you name it and Batman will make sure he lasts at least six months.

$1000 and you can customise the race, $1500 and you can pick race, gender identity and sexual orientation.

And at the $10k level you can actually BE Robin and be kidnapped by a maniac in a clown outfit wielding the blunt instrument of your choice.
