I feel really bad for Sarah. She was obviously affected by her mom's craziness and her dad was not thrilled about having to raise her. Has she got a job?

I don't know if she has managed to graduate and land a job yet, but I can't see why not.

This might not be an anime thing... but this thread seems like a good place to share my small encounter with 'what the flying crap'. Street Samurai Downtown areas always seem to draw out the strange people that may or may not dress up to shock people. Not too long ago when I was with my roommate showing her best friend around our city, we came across a man dressed in what I could only call an attempt at modern samurai. Wearing a black sleeveless shirt and dark jeans, long hair tied back in a low ponytail but that what wasn't grabbing people's attention. On his back he carried a katana sword as well as the shorter sword (tanto I think?) at his hip with a belt and one of those training wooden swords crossed over the katana on his back and leather cuffs on both wrists. We weren't exactly sure what he was doing or where he was going... We found him later outside a book store just standing with a dude in a trench coat and fedora... We figured we were far better off asking questions about that. Edit: Spelling errors Bubble_Princess fucked around with this message at 05:27 on Feb 14, 2015 |

I went to an anime convention and met some dude because I was bored and he wanted a pokemon battle. He seemed cool, and had really cool friends, so I met up with him the next day. He proceeded to tell me all about his fetish tumblr, and when I told him I had a boyfriend he sullenly ran off and proceeded to blow up my phone with questions about why he wasn't at the convention with me. Later, he sent me a selfie with a naked anime wallscroll clearly in the background. The moral of the story is don't go to anime conventions.

Oh boy this thread is fun! So my story happened like... poo poo, I was a junior in high school so about twelve years ago? I'm in Arizona and this was a small town so it was mostly populated with Mormons, and it was inevitable that some of them would become friends with me even though my little group was the metalhead, punk and goth group. A girl moved from Phoenix and we ended up getting along since she liked my art and wanted to be an artist, and she had a pair of horses we could ride around town which was cool because I love riding and couldn't afford a horse of my own at the time. For a while Jayne and I really got along well and we pretty much spent the rest of the school year hanging out between her house and mine since I lived right down the road. She was like... anime gothy. Not really goth or punk or metal, but she tried listening to NIN once in a while even though she had to wear flowery dresses on sundays and stuff. Her extent of trying to fit into our group (not that I think anyone cared either way) was tight jeans and black and red shirts, and watching dark anime. She tried really, really hard to look like us, act like us, and make sure she fit in with us. I had a feeling she was totally different when she lived in Phoenix. So Jayne tells me she has three really good male friends, one of which moved to New Jersey and that she called her boyfriend, and two that still lived in Phoenix. They had DeviantArt accounts and MySpace accounts and she introduced me to them online so I'd talk to them a little too. The summer after junior year the two that lived in Phoenix were supposed to come hang out with us and the one in New Jersey said he was going to come stay for a month or whatever because his family owned a place in AZ, and I was pretty excited to meet them since I'd been talking to them online and they seemed pretty decent. Vin, the Jersey guy, was supposedly from a rich family and went between Jersey and Arizona a lot which is why he and Jayne were dating. Every time the guys were supposed to come visit, or on their way, something would happen and they wouldn't show. It got really weird and I started getting suspicious. One night I finally picked up the phone and dialed the one in New Jersey; I had his number but never had a reason to call since he was supposed to be her boyfriend. We start talking and I tell him that something seems really loving strange. He tells me that he had never talked to me online, he had never lived in Phoenix, but that he had heard a lot about me. Apparently he was an online boyfriend but never knew anything about coming to visit or the other two guys. On top of that, he asked me about all the artwork she was suddenly sending to him that didn't look like her anime stuff at all-- she'd been taking my art and telling him she had made it for him. I really dislike anime style and never drew it, and he was suspicious of the sudden change. So, since Jayne was supposed to be coming over that night I wanted to confront her and have him on the phone too. I told Vin I'd call him back when she got there; I had to figure out what was going on with the other two guys in the meantime. She'd given me the numbers of the other two guys a while before, but I had never called them either since I was a bit shy and hadn't actually met them yet. The first guy I get on the phone quickly and it turns out he didn't know anything about me, and even though he'd gone to school with Jayne in Phoenix he wasn't actually friends with her, had rarely spoken to her, and had never had an account on DeviantArt. He knew nothing about any of this-- so I let him know she was impersonating him and other people online, gave him the info so he could hopefully get the account erased, and that was that. The people at the second number told me that the other guy and his family had moved out of state almost a year before. By this time Jayne was on her way over so I called Vin and got ready to confront this gal. I let him know that she was impersonating the other two guys online, just like she was impersonating him to me. So she comes in the house, I tell her what I've found, and Vin starts telling her what he knows over speakerphone and asks her what's going on. She freaks out, says we don't know what we're talking about, and storms out of the house. I didn't talk to her again, but a person that was previously a good friend of mine somehow thought she was telling the truth and had never stolen art or impersonated the three guys online. So Jayne still ends up with one friend from the group, Jenny, who is to this day an "anime artist." I guess that's why they got along but I always wonder if her artwork got stolen somewhere along the line too. The guys' profiles disappeared, of course, and I'm sure she had some wonderful explanation for that. Jayne and Jenny are still really good friends, which is weird as gently caress and which I do not understand. They're both ultra-Mormons now, so maybe that's why they get along. Every once in a while they pop up on my Facebook since we're from a small town and everybody knows everybody. Weird as hell. gently caress that small town and the weirdos in it. Edited for clarity. Yeah when I went with my friend on a Mother's Day sunday thing they had the boys give all the girls carnations, tell us how respected we were as future mothers, then go on to tell us if we distracted the boys with slutty clothing it was our fault if we got raped. I never went back.

Along with a pair of female friends of mine who didn't know anything about it. After the tour and the explanation of the church my friends said they were probably not right for the church as they were a lesbian pair. The women attempted to convince them they were wrong, marriage between a man and a woman so on and so forth but I'll never forget one of them looking the woman in the eye and saying. "We've been together for six years, what makes you think we'd leave that for this?" It was awesome

My mormon friends all turned out fairly liberal as was their pastor. I think a lot of this has to do with individual communities. The one really wierd thing was how similar they all looked, like there was some sort of genetic bottleneck a ways back that still hasn't sorted itself out. All the mormons in my town are blond and turbo white with small facial features, which is very distinct in a town that is otherwise black or eastern European descended white.

They all had the same sort of look in my town too. They don't often marry outside of Mormonism, so everyone is somehow related. Since they have so many kids that marry off, all the families got related really early on. Goes for the next towns over too-- everyone has family over there and all the families are related somehow. Jeff Flake is a prime example of that, if you happen to see him on TV. Anyone interested in seeing an almost 100% Mormon town should go take a look at Snowflake.

I lived in one of those towns. More dwarfism in my middle school than everywhere else I've ever been in my life combined. Lots of more ordinary congenital problems sprinkled around, too, diabetes and anemia and such.

I never saw any of those specific genetic illness, just tons of obesity and whiteness that bordered on albino. In fact the only reason I don't think they were actually albino was the lack of pink/red eyes. They were so white that when you pressed on their skin it turned purple, but they still had normal blue eyes.

The pink color you see only shows up in photos, really, from light reflecting off the back of the eye.

If that's true I may well have gone to school in an area where a good 2% of the population was albino, which is a horrifying notion given how rare it's supposed to be.

Ii feel like Mormons can have their own endless thread of fuckery and weird poo poo. Was it this thread or another that a goon posted about him having a Mormon friend as a kid. I remember when they became teens she didn't belive in mormonism or something, or wanted to go to college but her parents wanted her to marry a Mormon dude the second she turned 18. He implied she mightve been locked up by her parents and raped by the fiance and/or pressured into marriage. Maybe an exaggeration or made up story but it stuck with me. Actually it mightve been posted in a 'most soul crushing thing' type thread.

I think like a lot of things Mormonism gets worse the more legal power it has and the more it's able to be the whole community. I know at the very least all of my Mormon friends who ended up traveling to Utah for university came back saying it was super creepy. Specifically in how cultish and conservative everything was. They ended up convincing most of their female relatives to go to local schools instead.

I'm in deep Mormon country here in Canada. They almost to a T are blonde and blue eyes, unless they are Phillipino converts. They tend to be a bit insular but nothing terrible. I do know from a friend that they indoctrinate women early on to make them docile and want to be married and have lots of kids. I'm actually best man for a Mormon wedding.....which I can't actually see because I'm not Mormon myself. Instead I get to get dressed up and then stand around for an hour with others in a stuffy vestibule. I also have to do this stone cold sober since he asked me to. Gonna be a long day.
