Nercylla is my favorite fight so far. God daaamn what a cool fight. Nothing but tons of unexpected moves. Also when he sleeps you and like stands over you contemplating his next move is loving terrifying.

I really liked the lance starting out. You can focus on fighting defensively and then when you get bored go HAM on offense with greatswords when you learn some monster paterns.

Real answer: try them all out in the tutorial quests in one star and see what you like (with the caveat that some weapons don't really shine until later, they're still perfectly usable). I'm a big fan of hammers, but apparently some people find them really cumbersome and slow (I literally don't understand this, hammers are decisive). Great Sword requires a sort of commitment to being a one-hit wonder until you learn a monster or have an obvious opening. Dual Blades are probably the most twitch-weapon since you are up on a monster flailing madly and dodging away if there's even a hint of movement. The list goes on -- find what you enjoy. I'd probably recommend something without a shield to start though, as dodging is the much more important mechanic to learn (even for gunlance and especially lance at higher levels of play, despite their 'full' shield).

I am sure this has been answered a few times but I didn't see it in the OP and cant find a straight answer so here it goes: Are guild mission monster stronger than story/village monsters even when doing guild missions solo? I heard that if you are an experienced hunter and just want to get to hunting, you should skip village missions and go right for the guild ones. Is that true in 4U?

Longswords start at around 200 damage at rank one. Just pulled a 495 power one on expedition. poo poo, this is a dangerous mechanic. EDIT: I don't want to use it since I used Longswords in 3U but drat that's a big number for where I am. It's bigger than my Hunting Horns!

They're definitely tougher than the village mission equivalents when you're doing them solo. They're still very much doable solo--I didn't start grouping at all until the very tail end of guild high rank--but the monsters will be tougher and take longer to kill than on the caravan quests.

I get more grip on it if I wash my hands (of oils) right before playing, a pro tip I picked up on when my old 3DS's circle pad turned into a highly-polished & slippery piece of poo poo. Pushing down on it while manipulating it seems to help, too. I feel like that's how it was designed to be used.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how few Charge Axes and Insect Glaives I'm seeing online. The CAs especially are really bad for tripping, and I haven't seen anyone get a KO with the charges yet. Still too many longswords though

Because for all of the perks that a Charge Axe and Insect Glaive offer, both are a monumental pain in the rear end to use effectively, while the rest of the weapons are largely unchanged.

Is it really too much to ask that you be allowed to join a quest that's already in progress in multiplayer? Comeon Capcom, you've made how many of these Monster Hunter games by now? I named my cat after my cat IRL, and I was really happy to see they gave us an option for a one-eyed cat. Decided to rock Gunlance and Bow for this new game, loving the hell out of Bow. For any other Bow users, make sure to grab the Gore Magala one. Power bow with Spread 3 as its Lv3 charge and Power/Para/Poison. With Felyne Specialist you can easily get two procs of paralyze and poison in a fight and with Power coating you just poo poo out damage.

Is there a reliable place to find Altaroths? I've seen them around but now that I need their stomachs, for some reason they are nowhere to be found. I'm having a great time with the charge blade, but I keep forgetting to try and work the shield charge into combat.

He asked me to name it Gertrude, after his late wife, because both her and the GPS never shut up. Anyway, the loving palicoes can't keep their mouth shut for more than 2 seconds at a time so yeah Gertrude. Was it always this bad? I know the thieving felynes you run into in the wild were always mouthy, but god drat.
