Tell the truth and run.
I know this was, like, twelve atrocities ago, but...

If anybody in the U.S. still wants a paper copy of the Charlie Hebdo “survivors” issue, your local Barnes and Noble probably has it now for $8.50 (according to the non-removable sticker pasted over the original bar code). It's not on display; you'll have to ask for it.

This will surely be the most famous cover of a humor magazine, ever. The closest contender would be the “If You Don't Buy This Magazine, We'll Kill This Dog” cover of the National Lampoon, January 1973 (Death Issue)...

...which is here, in its entirety, online or downloadable, for free –

https://archive.org/details/National_Lampoon_v1n34_1973-01_Death

Yes!

Farty old archive.org is putting up pretty much all the Lampoon stuff (albeit with watermarks) for your free enjoyment. Flipping past the cigarette ads has never been easier!

Anyway, apropos of Charlie Hebdo, these are the two issues mocking religion:

December 1974 – The Judeo-Christian Tradition

https://archive.org/details/NationalLampoon1974_12

June 1971 – Religion for Fun and Prophet:

https://archive.org/details/NationalLampoon1971_06

On page 62 of the PDF version of this one is a pre-fatwa cartoon by Gahan Wilson of the sort that could get you killed nowadays.

Anyway, the High School Yearbook parody is up there too. Have fun.

You and everyone else, and I can't imagine that it picked up a new group of confused teenagers, so I have no idea how it's still going.

But we live in a world where people are paying Chris Muir in donations so there are probably enough fans for anything, I guess.

Man seeing that dumb DbD comic again reminds me that the world's gone loving topsy turvy when a socialist, anti-racist, anti-islamophobic organization recieved the accolades of racist shithead conservatives over here whereas a good number of leftists actually rejected them. Has Muir ever written anything on French or even Europe in general?

Speaking as someone who's been reading Schlock Mercenary since 2004, let it go. Delete from your bookmarks, resist the urge to check it, and it will eventually fade from memory. It's better this way.

Incidentally, when that cop in Alabama knocked over the Indian guy and almost killed him, he was responding to a call about a "black guy".

Clearly, anything but the liliest of white skin gets you that kind of treatment, at least in Alabama.

Yeah, I know, but the defining "foot" of a limerick's meter is usually the anapaest, (ta-ta-TUM), but catalexis (missing a weak syllable at the beginning of a line) and extra-syllable rhyme (which adds an extra unstressed syllable) can make limericks appear amphibrachic (ta-TUM-ta) which I plagiarized from Wikipedia.

I took it as a lagniappe for using feminine rhyme for A, B, and E.

It really doesn't. Lines 1, 2, and 5 are all a bit too long. It's like a traffic jam of syllables.

Anyone who says Bitey's limerick didn't scan would be absolutely APPALLED at how often Shakespeare's verse didn't conform to iambic pentameter :monocle:

Seriously, the line "To be or not to be: that is the question" has a feminine ending. The most famous line of iambic pentameter ever written uses that trick. It isn't a new idea.

Only time he was late was when the server farm hosting his site suddenly caught fire, and most of the lateness came from DNS propagation issues for the emergency backup server that he set up.

Because they've sucked for the last 20+ years. Anyone talking about how great the Redskins are is either a time traveler or completely out of touch.
