I knew we shouldn't have bowled. We should be trying to give our batsman a run.

Southee and Bolt might be the most dangerous opening pair in this world cup. You cant wait for the ball to stop hooping around like you can in tests.

The answer is no, it's Jimmy and Woaksey.

this is very good bowling although 13/4 is pathetic whatever way you look at it. Machan's in form though, so perhaps we might get into triple digits?

A bit too sunny for proper English conditions. Needs some good cloud and variable humidity so the ball starts doing proper 90 degree swing

I mean, knowing that you have almost no chance of losing to Scotland, wouldn't you have a bat simply to keep your batsmen in form?

Ruthlessly smashing everyone in your path as hard as you can is a good strategy imo.

Gotta make that net run rate column as dumb as possible.

You don't want to be too arrogant; Scotland went into the World Cup on a bit of a high (they beat Ireland by 150 runs in an ODI a few weeks ago, and almost toppled the West Indies which admittedly isn't saying a great deal) and this early in the tournament its probably for the best to treat every game as the same, regardless of if its between Scotland or Australia. Besides its probably easier to get your net run rate but by batting second, if that's at all a factor.

Literally the only way Scotland win is if they bat second against a middling target. McCullum bottled it basically. Shows a bit of mental weakness which England will exploit.

Collingwood is the assistant coach of Scotland so this makes a lot more sense now.

edit: The four saved that from being the third maiden over in a row.

I reckon they could have reached 250-260 if the partnership had stayed together until the 40th over. Now it'll be more like 190.

yeah this is where scotland's batting declines dramatically - cross is an old fashioned keeper who doesn't really bat

depends on these two; below this is the tail and it isn't very good. The first ten overs killed Scotland; I doubt even the best team in this world cup could score 300 from 12/4 against New Zealand.

Still likely to be our highest score against New Zealand, so that's an achievement of sorts.
