No but they do do the thing where the main guy hesitates to kill the big bad even though this has basically been his mission in life for the entire game and he just slaughtered a billion of his kind like it was no thing.

They also make it look like there's going to be a choice point at the end there- but as far as I can tell it doesn't really happen at all?

Imagine being some dude who never got into film writing because he wasn't good enough, and being forced to write for a video game despite hating everything to do with them. Now you know how the guy who lead development on The Order: 1886 feels. Or David Cage.

Contrary to what people might think, there is NOTHING WRONG with making game with story in mind first at the "expense" of gameplay. Plenty of games do this and do it great. Just, to read and hear how hyped this game was for its setting and story, and then, after all the turgid gameplay videos that were total crap, to actually experience the story and characters here, I mean, :laffo:

The final boss not only a QTE, but a QTE copy (reused animations, sound) of an earlier fight with the same enemy

I wonder if reviewers will still give this a score greater than 7. I know Polygon probably will, considering Ben Kuchera is already going on the defensive about this game and wrote an article saying, "Yeah, long games totally suck. Short games are better."

I'm all for better stories in games, but if as a developer you don't care about mechanics except as a necessary evil to subject folks to your narrative, maybe go gently caress right off back to staring out longingly o'er the moor and writing your novel.

Hey, it's funny to see someone get extremely flustered over a game he had no part in making. I only saw someone post the article's title on some other site, though, so I have no idea what the actual article reads like.

Bad writing aside, I feel like they could have taken the concept and done something really interesting. Maybe a Deus Ex style game where you investigate poo poo around bizarro Victorian London, or whatever. Something the player can really sink their teeth into.

But instead they made Gears of War: Mustache Edition. It's so strange. :psyduck:

I have this game per-ordered as of now. I haven't looked at any gameplay because I don't want to spoil myself. Don't care too much about length as long as gameplay is fun. Does it look fun? You actually fight the werewolves right? It's not just QTE?

No, it's QTE. Your characters move around of their own accord while you hit L2 every now and then. Sometimes a cutscene starts, the screen slows down, and you hit a button prompt.

Cancel your pre-order if you value your time and money at all. This thing's looking like a Unity-esque scam where it relies on early hype, CGI, and review embargoes to sneak out a barely-finished product and recoup some of the losses from people who didn't see what was going wrong in time.

Thanks guys, I probably will cancel. I pre-ordered the game looking for something similar to an Uncharted or Gears of War style experience. I also thought the idea of fighting werewolves would be tense and creepy fun, but if you don't even fight the werewolves in normal game play that sounds beyond disappointing. I will wait for reviews and feedback and probably wait for it to drop in price (which it probably will pretty fast).

I have seen parts where you fight werewolves in a non-QTE setting but they literally just run up to you, nip at your heels for a little bit of damage, and then run away guerrilla-style
