Iron Council's a totally satisfying conclusion to the non-trilogy, though. I kind of *prefer* for everything after that remain empty/pregnant time in order to do justice to the ending.

I wouldn't mind more stuff taking place pre-PSS, I suppose. But it's not as if Embassytown and Railsea aren't equally awesome fertile ground for future storytelling should he choose to return to those settings.

Yeah, I haven't even read Iron Council yet. I've been happy to move on to Kraken, Railsea, and The City & The City.

Maybe try putting book titles under each cover? The covers themselves are a little hard to read when they're that small.

Go for it, prints are at the artist's website: http://www.lesedwards.com/Edward-Miller/science-fiction/railsea/16716

Or you could buy the original for £800.

Here's something you'll love: I'm Czech, have most of those and desperately wish we had the UK editions. The pictures look nice, but the books are paperback, really huge and there's pretty much no way to read them without damaging them because even opening the suckers will create creases on them.
Plus the English ones look a lot less gaudy.

edit: Oh, in case you were wondering, IC is the second one from the right in top row. Anyway, this guy actually does the whole New Weird edition of that publishing company. It's mostly a mixed bag, but it's got a complete Viriconium and that picture is great. So is the book, obviously.

It is exactly the same for the English ones. After reading them just once the spines are a wrinkly mess.

I'm guessing Ambasadov is Embassytown? That's an interesting take on the ships; your blog reminded me they're called Corvids, but I can't remember them being described as looking bird-like. I wonder if that's due to a literal translation or the artist's interpretation.

Hi frends

I had a short conversation in Wordpress comments with a guy who read a review copy of TMOAE:S. Here's what he had to say:

guy posted:

“The Dowager of Bees” is an incredible story that goes nowhere you’d expect from the title (which is absolutely perfect for it).

How’s that for a cryptic tease?

----

It’s a very strong collection, much more consistent than Jake. It definitely has a theme — lots of urban malaise, post-millennial unease, unexplained syndromes, strange plagues — but also some of the most surprising work we’ve seen from him in years.

----

Nothing in a secondary world — the already released stories are indicative of the tone and general content of the collection. And no novellas; the longest stories aren’t much longer than 30 pages. The longest is The Keep at 34 pages.

It’s a great collection but really left me eager for another novel.

Still months away ugh. But luckily Al Reynolds has two books coming out before then to sate me :neckbeard:
