So what you're saying is that we need better downstream documentation to ensure transparency and reliability relating to the click-safeness of youtube data?

This video features some basic safety PR regarding process safety in the airline industry in Europe, with an eerily disturbing bit of over-dubbing of the featured executives seemingly terrible english. I hope you enjoy this and find it informative in your efforts to learn more about why no one is safe in the hands of corporate power.

EDIT: Well I just downloaded it again and now it seems to be working perfectly - even with embedded videos :psyduck:

So completely ignore my last few posts then.

DOUBLE EDIT: well, it works unless someone links a youtube video in which case I get a video window floating over the forums if I click the link.

This apparently supposed to happen and I really wish it wouldn't. Now I have to find another version which has just that part removed.

At work today one of those doors with the metal joint arm at the top that is used to let the door automatically close them gently instead of slamming and sometimes lock the door open was broken and the metal part was just hanging down pretty low into the frame and the door itself was propped open somehow.

People always walk mindlessly through these hallways leading to it looking down at their phone and the door comes at you at a right angle so itd be extra easy to miss. I wonder how many people brained themselves on it today? Wish it had occurred to me to take a picture because it looked comically dangerous.

Aren't like a third of US bridges in disrepair because lol Republican tax cuts?

EDIT: Here we go

The US needs $3.6trillion by 2020 or else poo poo will literally be falling apart.

There's your OSHA for you - unless you spend three and a half trillion loving dollars, just trying to drive on a road, let along over a bridge, will be taking your life in your hands.

Fun times:

"The number of deficient dams is estimated at more than 4,000, which includes 2,000 deficient high-hazard dams"

"In total, one in nine of the nation’s bridges are rated as structurally deficient"

Welcome to Portland. Those most certainly do bounce because of traffic, in that particular video though they're bouncing because of the gentleman in orange jumping up and down. That decking was installed in 2012.

I've been at a motor shop where people routinely work around exposed motor (and generator) shafts to do things like check balance and magnetic center. They are confident but it always scares me when that thing is spinning at 900 or 1800 RPM.

instead of a couple of horsepower these things can be as high as 10,000+. Plus the electrical leads are as high as 14kV.

Yeah, it's political suicide to raise gas taxes to pay for roads (which are not currently set to adjust with inflation). Plus, cars always get more fuel efficient. Basically, every year there is less money to spend on road repairs.

Edit: doesn't help that it gets worse every year, so it becomes more and more politically incontinent to fix as time goes on, so less and less people are willing to tackle the problem.

The laser barriers and pressure pads on the floor make it physically impossible to be anywhere near spinning parts while the machine is in operation and everything happens in a protected cabinet. The giant table saw we have terrifies me though. There's lots of saw dust on the floor and one slip while you're pushing a board through and we'll be finding out how easily a three foot wide saw blade can go through a person's chest.

Install a crown guard, one that sits on an arm and can be lowered down over the blade. They're pretty handy compared to the crap they put on most consumer saws.

If you guys are using actual wood and nothing more fancy that LDFB then there is probably some hippy who will "pay" your boss a tax cut for all that saw dust. Nothing like money to get safety moving along.

I have this saw, and that looks like the standard diamond blade, which is not cloth or particularly dull. I really don't get how this guy's fingers aren't severed, though I do have a bit of an anecdotal story. The first time I used this saw when I bought it I had a friend cutting some tile and he rubbed his thumb against the running blade to show me that simply touching it won't cut you, and that you had to force your finger into the blade to cut your fingers. Maybe the water helps or something.

Last time I used a wet saw I noticed that it does nothing to skin. I didn't press my hand against the blade as hard as in the video, but I did touch it just for fun. The blade just has diamond dust on it with no teeth. It only works on tile. It's weird.

If you trapped your hand against the table, it would probably chew you up.
