Is there any particular reason that in a thread about all right wing media this same single guy I've never heard of before gets posted over and over and over? Which one of you is him, and do you really think you're going to launch your media career by posting in here?

Well, of course, nobody here actually consumes any right wing media (except for "heard two seconds of Rush on my commute" or "walked in on crazy dad watching Megan Kelly on the way to the fridge" situations), so we have hard-working internet journalists who watch it for us and re-tweet the most outrageous stuff on Twitter. Then a helpful forum-goer re-posts it here so we can make snide comments and spit at it angrily for a while before we get tired and move onto the next outrageous thing. We consume whatever's served to us, and Steven Crowder and Red Beard and Glasses Man are some of the best sources for outrageous poo poo lately, so we've been eating a lot of poo poo.

Wow, I always thought Tom Friedman was just some milquetoast chucklefuck who got paid to write insipid bullshit, but after listening to that speech, I'm reminded of how "respectable" people like him cheerled us into Iraq.

Anyway for a VSP thread, I've thought of several sections:

Intro, Significance: something like, how Rush and Fox cater to the screaming id of disaffected, right wing Christians while VSPs are more of a reassuring ego to bankers and rich people?
Where they appear/write: CNN, Meet the Press, New York Times/Wall Street Journal, NPR...

it's because nobody has heard of him that he is desperate to launch his career as a professional obnoxious person by being as obnoxious as possible, which makes him good fodder for the "people making obnoxious political statements" thread

That Cambridge article you linked is bona fide though. We've been slinking away from the idea of a dopa or NEpi basis for ADHD for a long time now, and the fallback for a lot of neuro disorders when there is no clear signal transduction failure is "welp, it must be structural!" However there is wide consensus that it is a real disease and that loving Walsh article is loving poisonous to people like me who have suffered from this poo poo for ages.

In the case of mental issues it's less "deviation from the norm" and more "interferes with proper functioning." Even if you meet the diagnostic criteria for something it doesn't count as a disorder unless it fucks up your life somehow. If you function properly and aren't a danger to others (i.e., have a job, a place to live, enough social contact, etc.) you're basically considered sane. There's some grey area in that but the issue with mental stuff is how do you define "normal human behavior?"

Stephen Crowder is a kid who jumps pawns over 3 different pieces, says "king me" and then can't hear you explaining the rules to chess because he's too busy talking about how he owns at this game. That was the most obvious strawman I've seen in years and I'm not 100% sure he's aware that he even did that.

I was wondering if any major outlets would bite on this:

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2015/02/questions-bill-oreilly-falklands-david-corn

I won't go on a quote fest since I know we've talked about Bill's own "war reporting" bullshit, but it looks like he's responding now that MJ is on the case. His main defense being the fact that he can just say "I never said I was in the Falklands!" while the very solid explanation of why that's not an answer takes too long to explain than anyone will put up with. Dudes pretty prickly though and I can see him throwing gas on the fire if he feels slighted.

Jeffrey Sachs had a lot to do with the shock therapy economic policies enacted in South America in the 80s & 90s, Russia's failed decentralization, and the UN's failed Millennium Development program.

That's too long these days for anyone capable of holding him accountable. Between this being about the loving Falklands and his Fox News armor of unchecked hypocrisy, our only real hope is Bill himself forgetting the nature of these exchanges and engaging again. Which isn't an impossibility.

I do like how Brian Williams can be like "Guess I was wrong" and be vilified, while Bill can be like "Only some rear end in a top hat would dare question my history and stance. How bout we drop you in a warzone you pinko poo poo?" only to have the metaphorical crowd slowly stand, salute and start a slow clap.

The lesson is that Williams should've treated his audience like garbage and vehemently denied wrongdoing even in the face of evidence, perhaps stooping to insult naysayers directly.

We also have to remember that Brian Williams

1) Has a much larger and well rounded audience than Bill.
2) Bill's audience looks to him as a leader in the war on everything old white people can't stand, not a newsman. They don't hold him accountable because they aren't really looking to him for truthful sober reporting. They're looking for marching orders.

Williams absolutely should not have done anything that Bill is doing because he'd catch the hell that Bill would if he was an actual news reporter. It's the difference between robbing someones WoW account and robbing someone on the street. Neither are good but I wouldn't expect to end up in jail for the former.

Butt first, let's
check the feeds.

So last night I was channel surfing and caught Hannity going to commercial teasing "an update on Orgy Island." That seemed weird so I hung around and saw an entire segment where Hannity and company came THIIIIIIIIIIIS close to calling Bill Clinton a pedophile. The whole segment was about drawing links between Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein and stopping JUST short of calling a former US president a pedophile without a shred of evidence.

Actually, that's not entirely true. The one Hannity guest flat out said Clinton was having sex with a 17-year-old girl who Epstein acquired for him. He offered no evidence to back this up and no one challenged it.

Is this a current Right Wing thing or is it just Hannity being Hannity? Like, am I just being naive that I was shocked that they'd flat out speculate on a former president being a loving pedophile without any evidence or valid reason? It was literally "he flew on a plane with the guy a couple of times and the guy plead the fifth when asked about Clinton so... PEDOPHILE!" It threw me back.

It's hosed up but again, this is assigning more credit to Hannity than he deserves. That sort of thing and much worse flies all over RW radio and Hannity is like 2 steps above their poo poo. He gets away with it because no one but the choir pays attention to him and no one there expects him to cite evidence or be an honest dealer.

Not to say that choir isn't a decent chunk of this weirdo country, or that Hannity isn't a really terrible person for engaging in this drek, just that it'd do the rest of us a lot of good to stop expecting that whole set to give a poo poo about the veracity of the news they consume. RW media is a gross cesspool in a verifiable, demonstratable way. It's just that no one actually cares enough or expects any better from them.

Yeah, but I mean... "President Clinton is a pedophile because everyone who has ever rode in an airplane with a pedophile is a pedophile" just seemed beyond the pale to me.

But maybe I'm just blissfully ignorant of what really is going on on the other side of the Pale.

I just don't feel like it should be my job anymore to care that Hannity wants to do sick poo poo like this or that people are begging to have it ladled to them.

After this long it's very much a "person who doesn't want to help themselves" situation. If "47%", "unskewed polls" and all the other moments of RWM loving the movement don't open their eyes then I'm not going to waste my time doing anything but laughing at them.

It very much is but pushing the envelope is these people's jobs now. If anyone even on their side really thought it was news or true then the entirety of FOX would be shouting it from the rooftops, but instead it's just being trolled about on piddly little gossip group TV shows. Everyone from top to bottom knows exactly what that means: it's a bunch of bullshit.

I wish people cared about it but Hannity is happy to be a gross piece of poo poo on TV and his audience is happy to watch him do it and engage in it themselves. That's too big of a problem to solve from the outside so I'm pretty much done spinning my wheels being outraged that they don't care about the veracity of their news.

I love how net neutrality is such an objectively good thing that the only thing conservatives have to make it sound bad is a bunch of BIG GUBBERMENT bogeyman nonsense.

And Hannity will always be my favorite pundit. He is objectively massively successful in his chosen career and yet it's obvious he is plagued by insecurity. Not only does he get upset about Twitter troll posts, but he responds to them directly. I think it's because he, consciously or subconsciously, realizes he is only where he is because he was in the right place at the right time and was inoffensive enough to get the job. He's not crazy, or charismatic, or intelligent, or witty enough to ever be anything but an also-ran, so even though he's a multimillionaire with international recognition, he'll always just be not-Rush in his own mind.

I've been listening to Hannity long enough to have seen and noticed when he was trying to be "the sane one" with a veneer of journalistic credibility and how he completely switched that up when Obama was elected to become a sad, pale imitation of Glenn Beck because he lacks the crazy and theatrics to pull off that schtick.

All the other pundits I believe are too far up their own asses to see through their own bullshit, but I feel like Hannity sees exactly what we all see when he looks in the mirror.
