pik_d posted:What exactly does they Honeyeater do to the Magpies? He just drives them off because that tree in the front yard is his tree. Doesn't give a drat about people, but he'll come have words if it's another bird. We're moderately certain there's a nest in there somewhere, but we don't want to disturb it if there is.

This is not my favourite bird. They are in fact, terrible birds. But once when I was a kid I fed one a hot dog and got to watch it struggle trying to eat it for an unreasonable amount of time and that was pretty entertaining. Australian Ibis:

I pet one and they feel so weird, like they are made of plastic. A curl crested aracari is sort of a dream bird of mine. They are supposed to have great personalities and be really sweet birds. Unfortunately, they are about twice the price of a green aracari (like Mindo).

I am so jealous of people who have room for exotic birds like that. I would snuggle the hell out of a hornbill.

Birds are cool because they're literally little flying dinosaurs who were too metal to let a giant asteroid slamming into Earth from slowing them. Plus corvids are probably smarter than most people

More kites. Don't let the harrier sneak up on you. Look, you had to drop your vole. When their territorial disputes escalate, they sometimes lock talons and have mid-air wrestling matches. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmgFiEfXgeI Moon Potato fucked around with this message at 07:27 on Jan 8, 2015 |

I love tiny birbs like zebra finches - they sound like little squeak toys and come in a billion varieties and owl finches but then whydahs have super fancy tails (females are very boring, but man those MALE BIRDS) I hope to one day have a really nice aviary of several species of compatible finches

Huh, I guess I'd never seen a quetzal before despite reading about them in Aztec history books over the years. They're a lot rounder and cuter than I imagined them Bower birds are pretty great too. Look at this smooth son of a bitch dancing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCzZj21Gs4U

Wilson's Bird Of Paradise, or as I like to call it, the Resplendent What-The-gently caress. Bright colors! Blue head skin! *Eew* Startlingly bright mouth! A disk of back feathers that can be raised at will! Curly tail feathers! PURPLE LEGS! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8LdlhpWtJI A seriously weird-rear end bird. Also in the running: the Red Capped Manakin, mostly for his dance style and psycho-birdy eyes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o42C6ajjqWg ...but this guy has to be the official bird of Goons with his failed romancing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCzZj21Gs4U Velvet Sparrow fucked around with this message at 10:01 on Feb 1, 2015 |
