I've been invited to a Pathfinder game and the concept of building an Eldtrich Scrapper into Eldritch Knight is almost enough to make me want to say yes.

He's right though, antisemitism, anti-latino racism and anti-catholicsm weren't really addressed that much before the 90s and the latter is barely touched at all.

Antisemitism got addressed a lot in the 1950s and 60s by comics writers, just allegorically. That was one of the few "isms" you could protest without it being political. But yeah, I'm remembering that Marvel's most prominent Chinese characters are a mystic manservant and a girl with fireworks powers now, and the latter one only appeared in the 80s.

The sum total of Marvel's Japanese characters that I can remember- a samurai, a bunch of ninja, a guy with a big rising sun flag on his chest, and a minor X-character with power from her ancestors. EDIT: And Psylocke, technically.

Marvel has issues casting anyone besides WASPs and white atheists. This also in the sky is blue.

They also have Literally Drawn As Bruce Lee, the son of Fu Manchu (no seriously), as well as "the Mandarin" who is honestly something of an embarrassment, and the Immortal Iron Fist, who - wait, no, he's a white guy. But hey they also have, like, half a dozen bit-part supervillains whose powers can be mostly described as various flavours of anti-communist sentiment.

There was also a Chinese hero who was pretty much Multiple Man. Nothing insensitive about a Chinese guy who rapidly multiplies. There was a Chinese character who ended up just being not-Magneto and might have actually been Chinese. It was a really stupid arc and was around the time I stopped reading comics.

It's not wrong - comics are pretty terrible with racism and sexism! - but it's also incongruous with the rest.

He was Magneto then whoops turns out he was just using his powers to pretend to be magneto pretending to be himself. If that sound blithering stupid Grant Morrison agrees and that's why he stopped writing for Marvel, among other things.

Yeah, he wasn't anything because Marvel dropped the story fast and Joe Quesada was a terrible editor.

Grant Morrison wanted Magneto to be a villain again, builds it up, and then they put a stop to it because they didn't think Magneto should be massacring people. They just sort of moved on and pretended it never happened which was just a bad way of handling a major plot line. EDIT: It was pretty dumb but just about everything in mainstream comics is dumb. It's not like Marvel or DC is putting out Watchmen level writing on the reg and not shamelessly cashing in on superhero deaths. Magneto even has a huge speech that basically equates to " no matter what this villain does you'll find some way of excusing it so what does it actually matter?" The amazing thing is the turn around time on that poo poo.

Between Skrull imposters and Spider-Clones, Marvel seems good at accidentally building those escape hatches into their universe.

Don't forget that was right before Scarlet Witch going from a trash tier Avenger to the most powerful character in the Marvel U. Her power was pretty much editorial fiat and "things we think would be good for business."
