Most people forget the last time he was a cable lobbyist was in the 80s (which he left to work for one of Canada's first cable ISPs until it folded a year later), and that he stopped being a cell phone lobbyist in 2004, yeah.

This is broadly a good thing, right? Municipalities can now create their own broadband infrastructure without being limited or restricted by ISPs like Comcast or Time Warner? No blocking or throttling?

There was a separate vote for repealing restrictions on municipal broadband but the Rs also voted against that.

Lots of talk about potential "government censorship" in the news regarding net neutrality, but literally no mention of the fact that ISPs have already been caught engaging in censorship in the past, which is something this bill aims to prevent. In the meantime, though, it means that the FCC has taken an unprecedented and fear-reaching step in order to make good on one of the Obama administration’s long-running political priorities—a step that solves no significant existing problem, but is instead designed largely to fend off hypothetical harms, and give the agency far more power over the Internet in the process.

As Commissioner Pai told ReasonTV, the move is a “solution that won’t work to a problem that doesn’t exist.” It is a solution, however, that is now in place, and is sure to create some problems of its own.

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the bench the souls of those who had lost profits because of the FCC and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign GOP, conservative and true, until you repeal this decision and avenge our profits?” Then each of them was given a football stadium, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow telecoms, their AT&T's and Time Warners, were killed just as they had been.

Christ, the Youtube video attached to that article, ugh

To paraphrase:
"There are some new regulations coming. What do people need to know about this?"
"There was never a problem"

[Yeah, thanks for explaining the regulations by sticking your head in the sand and going "neener neener neener", dickhead.]

"Well, uh, some people say they have no alternatives for ISPs and that is a problem"
"Yeah, this will make that worse, somehow"

"But you just said that there weren't any problems"
"Well, most people have three choices for data and at least one of them is fast so :smug:"

"But people say we are getting a raw deal compared to other countries"
"We spent way more money on infrastructure per person than Europe, and now nobody will want to spend any"

And it just goes downhill from there.
