Did you just spam a crap-ton of ASM with PF and TH?

It was a 2v1 against Eldar/CSM and I had vanguard vets backed up by sternguard in a drop pod. Sternguard landed and immobilized the maulerfiend, which allowed me to use the vets to crip step through hixson's rear lines while scouts in a LSS with heavy flamers cooked out dire avengers. Tacticals held objectives and a TL las/las predator made any vehicle thinking about turning to face the sternguard or vets to shoot at them think twice about it.

Chapter master smashfucker ran up the middle and it was high fives all around the Xenos wrecks. Maulerfiend was still sitting there like a ripe turd who could only watch and smell like a turd.

Might have been a different game but I used ASMs to clear a bastion battlements and take over the gun, wrecking a hellchicken too.

The Shadowfield was recently ruled in a GW FAQ that FNP does not prevent the loss of the Shadowfield if a wound is otherwise taken (before FNP). So, interestingly, Fuegan has similar if not the exact same wording in his entry, he also has FNP. Does that mean that he can take a wound, deflect with FNP and still gain +1 Attack and +1 Strength? Consistent ruling would say yes....

Yeah the few times I have ran him I used a Command Squad + Apothecary to make sure he didn't get focused down, but it's irrelevant when a D blast marker lands on you from a Warhound...

I prefer to think of the Shadowfield ruling in a vacuum - there are too many weird things that can happen if FNP still lets other effects happen.

One time I went out with a girl who was like "Wait, this is weird. You're an animator who plays warhammer? I was JUST going out with an animator who plays warhammer" and I thought "that's hilarious, I bet it was a goon" and then I checked facebook and it turns out it actually was SRM.

In general, though, I don't really mention it much. Occasionally you'll get the "oh cool, let me watch you put it together" response but for the most part girls go kinda glossy-eyed and distant when warhammer comes up. I think it mostly comes down to how much they secretly still want to play with dolls.

Which, thinking more about it, is pretty much true for boys too.

It is guaranteed to be lazy, ignorant, and/or uninformed.
I never had anyone say anything about my Warhammer 40k, most nerdy guys are into it or know about it or some sort and thnk it's really cool. Also a "tutorial" is a good conversation piece.

Anyway this is what Rick Priestly said recently..

Rick Priestly while not saying not nice things didn't exactly say good things about GW recently from his Facebook , also the guy worked there 28 years so he probably does know a bit what he's talking about and well he's Rick Priestly.

This started the discussion

quote:

You sir are a legend! Its a shame that gw have lost their way a bit and moved away from the humorous, dark, irrelevant and very British state of Warhammer and 40k that you pretty much invented

This is what he said

quote:

Blimey you turn your back for a day or two! I worked for GW (Citadel in Newark and then GW at Eastwood and Nottingham) for 28 years, and the company changed a great deal over that time, but we always aimed at making money. I can just about remember the days when making money was about having enough in the bank at the end of the month to cover our wages - I don't know if that was ever literally true - but it certainly came across that way! We also enjoyed what we were doing! We enjoyed games and gaming and - of course - the models that went with that. The big recent change is that GW has actually stated - both during the Chapter House court hearing and subsequently to its shareholders - that it considers its market to be collectors of models and not gamers. The games are very much played down internally, and you can see with the latest (very nicely done!) models that they are conceived as collectors pieces that have very little practicality in terms of a wargame. It's perfec tly fine for GW to turn its backs upon wargaming in favour of modelling and collecting if that is the vision of the current management. But the result is that many customers who are or have been passionate about GW's games do feel marginalized.

I should add that we always used to maintain a games design department that was fairly heavy weight - smart guys, some of them rebarbative, bloody-minded and mildly dangerous types (dangerous to themselves on occasion). I won't say who it was... but one of our staff once ran back into the burning building he'd just been rescued from by the fire brigade to recover his 'stash' from the flames! The design team has been run down over the years - the guys who work there now are just not doing the same sort of work and they're not the same sort of people. Probably for the best

...betting the company on the assumption that the market is primarily collectors and not gamers is a big gamble isn't it! In the short term it will work because so many gamers are loyal to the backgrounds and to what is left of the games range (that'll be 40K then). The large, very nicely done, collectors style pieces generate good sales at high margins. I would expect to see an improvement in full year performance under their new CEO - and maybe even a dividend! Long term though... if GW is sincere about changing its market stance (and does not lose its bottle and start to back track - which is still possible) it opens up the market to any number of new companies that are interested in games, gaming and gamers! That won't do GW any harm so long as they are determined to abandon that market - and it would leave them to concentrate on a mixture of high price highly profitable collectibles and licensing its IP out into other media - always something I felt was under exploited due to fear of losing control at the top of the business. But what do I know

He probably knows what the hell he's talking about, this idea though that GW would just basically update everything and then just get the hell out of the games, market leaving the rules etc.. to another company is pretty insane.

There is a new ally matrix, yes. Do a search for '7th Edition allies matrix' and you'll be able to find it. You can have a Chaos detachment and an Ork detachment but you'll need HQs for both, troop tax, etc etc.

Stuff in WD is tourney legal in pretty much every tourney I know of and you usually need a copy of the rules on you when you go. You'll want to inquire with any specific tourneys you're planning on attending.

If you hide your hobbies you're doing it wrong. Most women I bring home are curious about the dumb space dollies, most use the term "figurines" because their experience with tiny dumb things is Hummel cabinet stuffers. Two or three women actually sat down to paint minis, I think I still have the mutants that some girl painted with turquoise skin and metallic silver hair (yes, I know how to pick 'em).

Heads up, GW have changed their policy on returns/replacements. I've just been told that I need to find a proof of purchase to send a tactical squad with a miscast back for replacement.
