Why are all the wall supports on the outside? Seems likely that a horde could tripping over them and bring it down by accident.

I think for Rick to go full blown Governor would have to involve Carl dying. Maybe they will get rid of Carl at some point since the actor is probably going to age faster than the show if they don't put in some time jumps.

What is it with this show it throws out 2 massive duds and then straight into 2 really good episodes. Glenn and co have seen just how wildly unprepared the town's people are. While Rick and Carol are actively plotting to take the place (and Daryl I guess?) How many episodes do we think this going to take 3?

I think the writers just aren't that great at pacing and mixing development with action. Obviously, we need to see the characters be introspective and reflective sometimes, but they tend to cram it all into an episode or two to "get it over with" rather than interspersing it. Also, I'm guessing the poo poo is going to start hitting the fan halfway through next week's episode. The Alexandria people seem like they've mostly just been incredibly lucky, but they're crediting themselves for their general good fortune thus far.

I think Rick was simply saying that they can get these people up to shape and make this community work but that ultimately if more assholes like the almost-lieutenant are in charge the three of them could easily put them in their place probably without having to murder anyone. It's in no one's interest to start shooting up old ladies to coerce the rest of the population from passively resisting against the coup by refusing to work. No way Rick's group could keep the water and electricity running, why give up a good thing? Besides I doubt anyone in the group apart from Carol and Daryl would go along with an overly violent takeover.

Apparently the finale will also be an extended episode with a 90 minute timeslot.

Loved Carol in this episode. She started the meek housewife act immediately. You could see it in the way that she turned over her guns, acting almost like they were just props for her and she wasn't comfortable handling them. It seemed odd to me until her interview. It's brilliant on her part. I'm also convinced that the girl has Rick's blender pistol. She was apparently in that area when Carl was following her so I'm betting she saw Rick stash it. The spy theory is interesting.

Rick is an rear end in a top hat and an idiot, he was pretty much already given the authority to try to shape things up and turn Alexandria into a more secure and long lasting community and he's only been there for a day, of course for him this is just further indication that the Alexandrians are too timid and soft and that instead of using the power he was given to work with their leadership he thinks should stage a coup. And Kirkman and co just expect us to side with Rick and his zealous followers.

I assume they just didn't show Rick explaining to the Congresswoman: 1) Everyone has the zombie disease and will turn when they die. So you have to be careful (and armed) even inside the compound? 2) You really need to watch the walls, run patrols. Since there are massive zombie hoards around, and groups of assholes with loving TANKS that you have to be ready for, so again, not a good idea to store away guns.

I loved this episode's nod to the comic's ridiculous last-page cliffhangers. If Rick entirely dismisses a coup in next week's cold opening, it'll be the most true-to-comics thing they could do.

A lot of people were saying Daryl doesn't trust the group, but it feels like Daryl is thinking if they do go back to being a normal group, Daryl won't have a place anymore. The group always needed Daryl, whether it be because of his tracking skills or ability to hunt and gather food. Now they are in a community, Daryl doesn't really have much to offer the group. I got some really Governor resembling vibes from Rick at the end there too.

Daryl is secretly afraid that if the plot realigns with the comics he won't get any screentime.

Well, he still had a lot to do at the prison. They haven't shown us much of Alexandria yet in terms of food and supplies (other than ROTC Douchebag playing with some walkers in the woods like a moron), so there's still potential for him (but it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't like the idea of being given a "job" by some random woman they just met). I feel like it's also that Daryl, like pretty much everyone at this point, is feeling worn down by all they've been through. He seems afraid to relax and embrace any of the comforts they're being exposed to because they never seem to last, and he doesn't want to go through missing them all over again when the inevitable happens and they end up back out on the road. It's like he's pretending that the showers and beds and non-scavenged food don't exist.

It felt really un-characteristic and out-of-place when Rick said that if necessary, they would take over the town. Then they coupled that with the previous lines from his interview, with him saying that they shouldn't let dangerous people in this town and everything those dangerous people do is about survival. Like, the writers are trying to make Rick's gang be the bad guys.... I know that nobody is really "good" in this world anymore, but they've never aggressively tried to take over a place just because, have they?

The lady in charge was putting a lot of emphasis on who people were before the world ended, and with Daryl he wasn't anything. He was a drifter hanging out with his loser brother. He only became a good man as a result of having to struggle to survive.

I think Rick meant "take over" as in "take over leadership and run it right" not like "murder everyone, now it's ours because CLAIMED." Daryl had his first almost smile of the episode after he said it, though.

The conclusion my Mom jumped to after I talked to her about it last night was that she thinks the immediate area has camera coverage and Captain Janeway seen him stash the gun there. I'm on Easychair's boat, I think the teenager has the gun. Also ROTC guy was a great character because he's custom made to suck as much as possible so you cheer when bad things happen to him. Everything about him makes you want to punch him (ROTC rear end in a top hat, zombie revenge, no trigger/muzzle discipline, HAY GUYS WE GOT SOME GREAT HARDWARE *totes around an assault rifle after handing the new guys dinky pistols that aren't even their normal weapons*) and it's such a victory when it actually happens.

Yeah, I hope we get a better explanation for this pretty soon, because right now it seems very deus ex machina. The only thing I can think of is they were actively trying to get people away from DC so they wouldn't flood the Capitol looking for help and shelter (though despite DC having all the bunkers and whatnot, you'd think they'd get all the government people out to Mount Weather or something).
