I'm afraid so.
Each virtue has different effects, I'm pretty sure it's Stalwart that grants the large constant regen buff. Focused I believe is accuracy, crit chance, stuff like that.

Edit: It's Vigorous that grants the regen.

I'm in the camp of upgrading guild over bar, and thus using the abbey for stress relief options early. There are very few "must-remove" things, such that you should be able to function just fine with not being able to stuff the sanitarium full all the time, and paying 1500 or whatever. Having upgraded skills/equipment makes a really big impact on how the dungeon rolls. Also stay away from the warrens until you have to go in there, that lets you avoid the vomit pigs stacking you up with poo poo.

Really, I think upgrading the Sanitarium ranks pretty low on the list of priorities of things that need to be built up. Basically the only quirks you ever truly need to remove are serious diseases and quirks that prevent that from getting any stress relief at all. Most negative quirks are an annoyance at worst and pretty easily ignored. I cannot imagine a roster of any reasonable size having things go so lovely that you absolutely, positively need two people to have their negative quirks wiped at the same time. The only time I ever put two people in the Sanitarium at the same time is because I was flush with cash and was starting to get tired of the kleptos and OCD freaks messing with trapped curios all the time.

Certain things such as Curiosity, Lockjaw, Syphilis, Weak Grip On Life, etc. are absolutely must-get-rid-of-asap negative quirks. Excising the reduction in skill/higher chance of death/obnoxiously checking everything you try to walk past is worth the extra gold.

You can activate interactives at a range greater than any quirk triggers them, so you can work around things like curious and dark temptations etc - something I can see them as changing at some point, since being able to work around the negatives like that probably wasn't intended. Diseases though, yeah, if they aren't rabies they have to go.

I'd consider that a waste of possible good quirks. I hardly ever have to use the stress relievers anymore past the apprentice dungeons.

Early on you want to be unlocking as many quirks as you can, which means you're going to have way more negative quirks, which means you need a second sanitarium slot. It's not hard to understand.

I ... I've never found myself seeking to unlock quirks since they weren't very reliable. The guild was always way more reliable. I only used the sanitarium to remove things like Syphillis and Lockjaw. :(

But there are plenty of interactive objects I skip, such as bookcases/stacks of books/locked things in the ruins, effigies in the weald, etc and negative quirks that force inspection of those objects are obnoxious.

Also I just toss my dudes in the sanitarium when I'm not using them, no harm in it.

Question, what do people consider the best trinkrts? I'm thinking double legendary bracers is pretty loving good, -12 dodge is a pretty big blow, but so are the ones I'm dishing out with +10% crit and +40% damage. I put dual agility talons on my bounty hunter and not only does he always go first for immediate flashbangs, but he also has like 60 dodge rating, he rarely ever gets hit. Dual Tough Rings makes a crusader or leper nigh-unkillable, too. Solar gear are great as well. Those blood tear pendants for hellions have literally no downside as stated earlier.

You can easily* make up the difference with Herbs.

*Not necessarily true

Does anyone know if the +100% consumed food downside on trinkets affects the chance of a starve event? I use a Grave Robber that rocks 2x of the ancestral trinket with that downside and it seems like I get way more starve events when she's in the party compared to other compositions. Could be rng, but I'd like to know for sure.

If you use herbs on the meat carts you will likely find 2-3 of per run, they will each yield 10-14 meat plus loot in most cases.

I'm pretty blah about using items on other items, the only things I never use though are iron maidens since they suck. I do go in with a set loadout of positive items per dungeon, but i dont go nuts with 5 or 6 kinds, usually like 2 keys at least since those seem to have the biggest return on investment. Trees and antivenom i never bother with though because those lovely trees hardly have the loot return to even justify spending it. You thoroughly searched the tree and got 75g! But the antivenom costs what, 200?

This is just about the weirdest thing I've ever read in regards to this game. Unlocking quirks is so random, and the benefit so marginal even on the truly good ones, that I couldn't imagine wasting my time and money trying to unlock them when I could be getting guaranteed improvements to my characters in the form of skill and equipment upgrades.

Sure, there are different ways to play the game, but the "you want to just unlock tons and tons of quirks ASAP" style is nowhere near optimal, especially since even the quirks you unlock will probably be quickly replaced.

You must bring Holy Water on any Ruins runs. At least two. A single Urn will yield multiple gems and gold every time if you use holy water on it, it's a guaranteed ROI on the holy water, presuming you find any urns. I got 2 sapphires, a ruby, and a citrine fron a single urn once. It's worth dropping 450-600 on 3-4 HW every ruins run depending on the length, you'll always make your money back and more if you find at least a single urn.

I'd say each of the dungeons has a *must-bring* item for cash and benefits, with the Warrens being herbs, and the Weald being bandages, holy water in the Ruins, and possibly antivenom in the Cove when that gets released.

It's unlucky RNG, I'm confident that only means they consume twice the food they normally would during foodchecks and camp. Foodchecks can be absurdly spammy on a dime, they definitely need a minimum distance timer.

Really Madcats

Playing under my challenge rules (only one of each class at a time, can't fire them) has led to some interesting and suprisingly successful runs, as well as abject failures (two TPKs in a row) for a variety of reasons.

I had an all damage (Highway man, Hellion, Crusader and Leper) dungeon that lead to everyone escaping sane and almost unharmed, and two runs with healers (Vestal in one and Occultist in the other) that lead to TPKS - they could have been salvaged at 50% loss, but I had to push them into just one more room.

The only one of my starting crew who hasn't died yet is Reynaurd.

Yeah, this is a part that bugs me a bit. One square before entering a room your dudes get hungry, and then one square after leaving the room they will do it again. It's to that point with me that I usually bring like two full stacks of food into a medium dungeon - although it's nice if stress piles up unreasonably high quickly due to bad luck to be able to double ration and get 10 stress knocked off on a camp, since I usually save them for a few rooms in mediums.

It's got a nice conversation with Chris Bourassa in it. I learned that there's going to be 2 bosses for every dungeon, which apparently you'd know if you went over the kickstarter with a comb, but was news to me.

Cool, like the Apprentice -> Necromancer thing. Although, having just beaten the veteran Hag, I'm a little scared of what will follow her. :ohdear: Some sort of horrible fungal doom beast, perhaps?

Ranged specialist Dismas continues to be a complete rampaging lunatic in battle. He always goes first on the first turn, often kills something in the first action, and occasionally kills the entire fight with a turn-one-action-one critical grapeshot blast. Meanwhile Pancevolt the Power-Metal Crusader, with his monstrously high HP and >20% passive Protection rating, eats Treebranch Smackdowns from those huge giants and takes 2 damage. A good team :allears:

I hope the dev's are planning something like this. Since it's still EA though, I can see why it hasn't been put in the game yet. It should be a stage coach upgrade that is separate from the rest of the upgrade tree or added at the end of upgrade tree.

Welp, I put together a level 5 dream team to take on the Necromancer Lord. Three rooms into the dungeon, Dismas eats two consecutive crits from rear end in a top hat crossbow skeletons and goes to Death's Door, both of my attempts to flee fail, and of course the loving crossbow skeletons go first next round and of course Dismas catches an immediate Deathblow before I can do anything else. There was nothing I could have done to feasibly change the outcome. Those crossbow skeletons are horseshit.

This game is a bastard game :( RIP Dismas, you came an incredibly long way only to become the second name in my graveyard. You will be avenged.
