Certainly no need to be particularly slow and methodical, at least with that level.

What the gently caress? Maybe its just bad timing, but I can't do this. I tried doing exactly that like 8 times; If I run for the right room like you do, everybody in the lower room agros to me and they come and shoot me in the back before I've finished them off. I tried running past the right room for that very reason, but then when I hit the people down below the people in the right come running out and shoot me. I can't go fast enough, they agro way too quick.

I'll record a webm myself after work if I'm still stuck.

You are overreacting. Your skills must be rusty from HM1, it's not particularly difficult. You just have to time getting down to enter the room to the right, if you do it way too fast you will get shot.

The dude from below agros you and stands there and doesn't shoot, wtf. When I do that all 3 guys from below agro and they come out guns a-blazing. I'm dead before I can finish with the room.

I guess I just gotta get the timing down, but I'm doing this WHILE zooming ahead and looking at the timing.

This game really isn't fun. I loved 1 but they just made the combat such a frustrating slog in this game. The levels are way too big and melee blows because the AI is hyperaware of you if you're anywhere near them. Really disappointing.

And for a second option, the game is lots of fun. The combat seems a bit smoother especially with gunshots and I haven't had any major problems. The levels are bigger but your clear run after restarts will still only take you a couple minutes and I notice no difference whatsoever in melee between this and HM1. I did a complete playthrough of HM1 of the last couple of days just so my comparison would be fresh.

I'm sorry you're disappointed but from my experience so far I basically stepped from HM1 directly into HM2 and nearly everything was the same and noticeable changes were generally positive. Small changes, but I wasn't really looking for big ones.

I'm up to, like, mission 9 I think? Favorite so far is either the one with the reporter and playing it non-lethal, or doing the second Fans mission in the warehouse with Tony and no guns. Oddly enough those were the two that have taken the most restarts so far, too.

I'm not feeling it. I really liked Hotline Miami, but this one just feels... I dunno. Most levels are basically rooms that are so big you get sniped by some enemy you never saw, the story is tripe and too many levels just aren't fun.

The soundtrack still owns and the visuals are trippy but I'm not enjoying myself.

As in you only knocked people down, or you only used a melee weapon to permanently incapacitate people? I did the latter, and it was drat annoying.

I've got some problems. It may or may not be because the game hung on installing the Microsoft VC redist package and I was forced to skip it, but trying to rebind the controls has resulted in a complete mess.

The game wouldn't accept RMB as a binding and then a bunch of other things happened and long story short it seems to be impossible for me to do anything the spacebar is bound to by default. Deleting local files and reinstalling, it helpfully remembers my new busted-rear end bindings. What file should I delete and verify, or whatever?

Pick up the baseball bat from the first guy you kill, it permanently incapacitates enemies. It is an annoying mission overall, though.

Thanks! Seems like something weird is going on with the AI in that room, too--If you knock out the two guys armed with guns in the main room, then disarm the weapons, when they wake up they'll wander around and not be hostile.

I'm on the final NotVietnam level and I'm a bit frustrated at the amount of open spaces and abundance of gunplay. Like other people have said there's way too many time you find yourself being killed by an enemy off screen. Sometimes literally, OFF screen. Had quite a few platoons of Russians patrolling the map and only been able to see their shoulders. It leads to the levels feeling like they have to be played stealthily. Waiting for patrol routes to finish or cross over.

Any level without MASSIVE expanses of clear land have been a blast though. Really digging the story too, excited to see where it all ends.

I've got to say, I'm kind of agreeing with the review that said the game adds more good without fixing any of the previously existing bad. All of the problems I encountered with Hotline Miami 1 are still prevalent which is pretty disappointing. The new stuff is pretty cool though.

This has been my experience so far too, this sequel's mechanics feels exactly the same (i.e. loving awesome) to me, up to the AI behavior. Perhaps because I only played HM1 back when it was released (when most people complained it was a mess)?

Only used melee to incapacitate people but there was a lot of knocking-down and knocking-out to go with it, especially at the start. I died a whole bunch trying to do it like any other level but when I started playing a bit more cautiously and picking specific areas to deal with people it got a lot easier.

Some people have (perhaps rightly) criticized the fact that the gameplay is arbitrarily restrictive on certain levels, like that one. It is, but never punishingly so, and figuring out how to play the journalist's level properly was just different enough that it harkened back to figuring out how to play the game properly in general, relearning a few rules slightly differently. That's what I like about the changing perspectives so far. We'll see if that enjoyment lasts the entire game, I guess.

If you have a melee weapon that can take out guys in one hit then I can't picture how the guys coming from the bottom could kill you that fast. It only takes a split second to clear the room on the right and there are a whole bunch of corners you can use to lure firearm dudes next to you even if they're running for you from the second you enter the level.

And yeah, so far I haven't used zooming at all personally, it was never really my style in the first game either.

I tried it several times both ways, but seeing both of you doing it with the melee makes me think that'll be easier, so yeah I'll stick to trying it melee style.

I guess melee vs guns is at least ONE option that I have in the .5 seconds before instant-death-restart.

And if you broke his LOS shouldn't he start running into the room already? I guess he didn't have time?

Chapter 16 is the most infuriating exercise in tedium I've encountered in a long time. Two large, open maps full of gun enemies followed by a four room layout that starts with you exposed on either side to shooters. I did manage to get to the room beyond that but that's a whole other kettle of fish and I couldn't be arsed slogging through it.

Maybe people will say it's trying to recreate the whole "war is hell" thing, but c'mon. There's much smarter ways to do that.

They begin again

This game rules, so far it's a perfect sequel and I like what they did with the story. Somehow the gunplay feels much better and I've been using it a lot. The bigger maps are interesting. As long as I use the view stretching L2 button and use lock on to scout ahead I don't have much trouble with them. They definitely ramped up the difficulty but the game's so tight and catered to fast gameplay that I don't care, and I absolutely hate "hard" rage inducing games. It's HM2 and I'm glad.
