There was a comic I heard of a while back, I thought it sounded interesting but never followed up on it. Now i'm curious about it but can't remember it. IIRC it's about a town where when someone dies they come back to life, so the government has basically quarantined the place. The main character is a girl who died and came back and I guess maybe she has some kind of super strength or just resilience or something? I know that isn't much to go on but it's a fairly recent comic, as in within the last year to year and a half. Definitely is NOT iZombie, I already looked at that one. khy fucked around with this message at 22:01 on Mar 10, 2015 |

Revival is totally fuckin' sweet and is not a zombie story at all.

I read the first few issues and really liked it, but not enough to keep it as a monthly pull. I should see if I can get my hands on some trades and get caught up. Low is getting better and better, and Supreme: Blue Rose just had the big 'reveal' where things start to make a bit more sense. Unfortunately, that probably means Ellis is bored with it and it will die a slow death. Let's hope not, because it's one of my favorite books out there right now.

Last issue of Blue Rose was billed as the final issue. I really hope that it's a Season 1/2 situation but it might be over.

So Bill and Ted was decidedly average but still totally worth it for Ryan North's totally excellent and most non-non-non-non heinous back up story. I'll buy anything with that guys name on.

Teenage Fansub posted:How's Chrononauts? It sure is a Mark Millar comic, with his undying love for hacky by-the-numbers Hollywood dialogue and tropes - to the point of almost being a straightfaced parody. Sean Murphy is a good artist and for once, the concepts in a Millar comic are somewhat interesting (time travel transmissions used for entertainment to get attention and funding). I personally loved that the newspaper headlines and other signs are drawn by hand, lazy lettering in mainstream comics usually drives me nuts.

Son of a bitch, I knew this would happen, and I was going to ask the clerk at my comic shop, but figured they'd be on top of it, but nope. They didn't bother adding the new Stray Bullets arc to my pull list since Lapham re-numbered the series again to go along with the new name (SB: Sunshine & Roses). Now I have to wait for my comic shop to back order the first issue for me. Jumped right into issue 2 tho, loving the return of ORSON! I'm going to have such mixed feelings over this arc since Orson was my favorite character in the Somewhere Out West storyline and his end was so tragic, but since his future and outcome's already established, Orson's taken on a Marv-like invincible-ness with his crazy wildness in this story, which is pretty cool. Also, Joey's totally Harry's kid and Lapham's set another piece to the puzzle that he started with issue 1.

Of course Rose gave Orson crabs, I laughed out loud when I read that, and it paid off in the punchline at the end of the issue. Knowing Orson and Beth's eventual fates just makes this arc a little sad for me. I would rather see what's happening to Ginny after the events of Killers, but this is going to be a fun ride.

Lapham's art has markedly tightened up since the last series, it's as good as it's ever been now.

Did anyone else read Red One? I have no idea what's going on. Is porn mainstream in 1970's Hollywood? I'm giving it one more issue, but not even Dodson art is going to keep me around if the writing doesn't clear up.

I loved the core concept of a Russian spy going over to act as counter propaganda and pose as a superhero, but man ... She just had no enthusiasm for the job. And for forty pages it sure didn't feel well established, you know? I felt like they spent way too long with the American actress. Despite getting a fair bit of Russian girl's life in Russia I didn't feel like she was much more than a cardboard cutout of a "liberated woman" in this bizarre and not very believable way. More of an idea than a person. The one halfway interesting scene was her saying goodbye to the ... other members of her poly dating ring or whatever. But I doubt we'll see much more of them since she, you know, left the country, so that single interesting relationship is already gone. Also her total disinterest in the job and lack of preparation felt super weird. They set up reasons for her not to want to be there but it kinda made me not want her to be there either. I'm in the same boat of giving it another issue but if things don't improve, ehhh. Oh well. A Tin Of Beans fucked around with this message at 21:08 on Mar 20, 2015 |

Am I the only one here loving The Wicked & The Divine? The first arc was lots of fun, but holy poo poo this second arc is an absolute belter. Every issue has been better than the last. I get that Gillen and McKelvie can be a bit marmite for some, but if you fall in to the 'love them' camp, this is probably their best stuff. So much to unpack in Each issue, great characters, funny as hell and also incredibly emotional.

Yeah, I *loved* Phonogram and Young Avengers, as well as Gillen's Journey Into Mystery (and Three), but Wicked and Divine seemed like one I wasn't desperate to follow month-to-month after the first three issues or so. So glad to know it picks up.

When does the second arc start? Wicdiv has been languishing in my stack of poo poo to read since issue three where I got bored and fell behind. I generally really like Gillen and McKelvie, too, so not vibing with it immediately felt weird.

First arc ends at issue 5, but def picks up in issues 4 & 5. After that, it just keeps getting better and better. Fandemonium, the rave issue, Woden and his "cheerily racist army of ethnic mono-cultured Valkyrie gently caress buddies", this week's issue. And we still haven't even met loving Tara yet. And McKelvie is at the top of his game. I love this book so much right now.

Anyone pick up Invincible #118 because free? Because bravo Robert, what sells new readers on a superhero book better than tearful RAPE CONFESSIONS?! Jesus Christ. It's more and more clear the dude has one mode that he slaps different genre trappings on as needed.

Wicked & Divine is one of my favorites right now, along with Saga, Sex Criminals and East of West and has been since the first issue. It helps that I'm a huge fan of both Gillen and David Bowie. I found myself thinking of "Oh! You Pretty Things" a lot early on based both on the themes and Luci's look. I was actually a little let down by this issue but it seemed like a necessary progression in the overarching story. I think the book's at its best when it just wallows in generation gaps, fame-whoring and style versus substance. Too much plot progression at once and it loses some of that immersive quality for me. krakagar posted:And we still haven't even met loving Tara yet. loving Tara.

Goddammit, if my superhero comics don't feature at least three major bodily organs getting punched into low Earth orbit in each issue I will happily take them back to the store for a refund. Of course that doesn't work here because the comic was free. Think I might drop Invincible and start reading Uber.

I kind of doubt they'll collect them anywhere, but they are included in the digital versions of the singles, too. If you can't find the extra stories anywhere else, you could try waiting for a sale on Comixology or something to collect them relatively cheaply. Note that most of the stories have nothing to do with the comic and were just extra space the creators gave to friends and up-and-coming artists to showcase their work. That in itself was pretty awesome and generous, but you're not missing any plot details from the comic without them. Baron Fuzzlewhack fucked around with this message at 19:21 on Mar 27, 2015 |
