That's the thing. It's a hard game to start with. I was fine with that. Someone else said it well, it's like they start with the latter levels of HM1. But jesus, they just get frustrating and really unfun. I can't see myself replaying a fair amount of this game.

Well there's always the level editor, at least, whenever that's going to be patched in.

The key reason HLM worked so well was that levels were short, easily repeatable and in most cases you never really had to go down a long hallway or worry about getting shot off-screen. Yes, it was buggy and yes, the hit detection was kind of poo but the short hectic compact design of the levels mitigated that. Wider open longer levels will just further highlight already existing issues that the 1st game had and introduce even further issues with re-playability. I played HLM through to completion in 2 days before HLM2 and it was quick as hell. I even went back and tried new masks as well on my 2nd attempt to try out new things. With HLM2 tying perks to people instead of masks it means less re-playability which for HLM2 is definitely going to effect peoples' perception of things.

Well, just finished it, and the level design did not improve. Really disappointed with all the mechanical changes again, knowing how restricted I am on each level and how underused some characters are I'm really not seeing myself wanting to replay this like I did so many times in the first. FWIW I didn't have any technical issues (and I'm on 8.1) the whole time besides achievements not unlocking. Dog Fat Man Chaser fucked around with this message at 22:16 on Mar 10, 2015 |

I love the idea behind 1 and 2 but their fragility combined with one character not being quite where you need them to be means I'm better of just going with Tony.

So I might have made SOME progress in getting the game to run. Force your game into OpenGL mode or something. Gets you a white screen instead of just sound. In short, I have no idea what to do to play this game. It's probably a bug or some odd poo poo.Gonna see if I can re-install without the special upgrade parts.

I already can't tell what's happening any more. Are there any collectibles to find like HLM's masks in the levels or pixel hunting or is it just newspaper clippings?

I beat it. It was okay, worse than 1. There were a lot of subtle control changes that made it way harder to do certain actions, and I felt like I was dying pretty often to enemies off-screen way more than HLM1. It was very okay at first but just turned into a drudge. That said I still enjoyed it, but 1 was so much better.

One thing I noticed in the half-hour I played (on a laptop with a touchpad, and I still didn't find the first three real levels too frustrating), in the first crime scene investigation: There was a brief flash, like a camera flash, while I was reading dialogue, and then what looked like a phantom boom mike man appeared and faded away, standing over the corpse. So that's weird...

Man, these last few levels are crazy amounts of not fun. It's actually impressive how such a little change to the level design can take what I like about the game and just throw it out the window. As sad as it makes me, if I replay this at some point in the future I think I'm probably gonna have to force myself because it feels like just a big mess of ideas all at once. And don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying the game and I do feel it is worth the price even if I'm not going to get that much out of it personally (others might)... it's just that the game starts strong and ends kinda weak imo.

I got to chapter 21 and I'm guessing I'll be playing as this character for the rest of the game? Jake the fat idiot is MVP so far. Edit: also people get stuck in doorways and do a lil seizure dance at least once per level. Amorphous Blob fucked around with this message at 23:11 on Mar 10, 2015 |

Only just noticed I have been playing this game for 3 hours straight and have forced myself to put the game down for the day. The story is alot more interesting this time and the different characters + new soundtracks are awesome. My eyes are killing me because I think I have been forgetting to blink. I really like the John Woo Bear with akimbo sub machine guns just starting to wish I had unlimited ammo

Yeah not feeling this game as much as the first. It's like they doubled down on everything from the first but didn't improve level design and now the story is even more overbearing

Impressions of 90 minutes in: -more of HLM1 -Still great music -There's some issues with detection -Larger/more open maps are less fun Overall the game feels like it's the early 90s to HLM1's mid-late 80s. VHS rather than vinyl. Yes I know I'm stating the obvious. VV: I meant it in more of a general "AV medium" sense, rather than films vs. music. I'm only at the level where you go to the garage, but I'm having fun. The ground kill with the skateboard is especially brutal. The game seems a lot harder than the first one, but the bigger rooms might be a part of that. The game seems a lot more dependent on guns... that was the only way I could beat Jake's section. I haven't had any crashes yet, but enemies sometimes flip out when trying to run at you through doorways. Did anyone notice with the Pacifist you get extra points for picking up guns and unloading them?

# ? Mar 10, 2015 23:31 |

The dependence on guns makes this game so much less fun for me than the original. I hardly ever shot anything in the first game but I am using them constantly here because I just want the levels to be over. God the level design is just loving atrocious.

Is it just me, or do doorways basically make men invincible? I've gotten killed a couple times because I've had like five dudes piled around a door that I just can't hit with anything. Also, I'm not liking the number of levels that use dim/dark lighting as a difficulty. And all the loving windows everywhere in every level. Mostly, this game seems a lot more gun-centric than the first, and that might be why I'm not liking it as much.

I can't play for that long, this game somehow strains my eyes more than the original. I'm already experiencing glitches with the pacifist and a little frustrated that the game doesn't really explain how he differs from the other characters (10 seconds of him rolling on the ground with a mobster while I can't figure out what button press lets me start playing again isn't exactly fun). The first few stages were fun, though, and for the most part I'm using melee weapons, even if my scores haven't been that great.

So it gets worse than Chapter 16? Tried it again with another gun (Sniper first time) and forgot you barely get any ammo from the crates. So far I've just been trying to cheese it by hiding in a bathroom, shooting to lure people to me and knifing them. Really kak.
