We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.
I got to scene 17 or so before giving up. The level begins at the far end of a hallway filled with enemies, including a gun and fat enemy, and you start with no weapon.

I wonder why they decided that this should be a thing? It's a really weird design choice, especially because you can't switch guns.

That level is a fantastic puzzle. Wait till the guy with the gun goes out of sight and then hit the guy with the butterfly knife. Pick it, kill the guy with the weapon and pick it while still running to the right real fast and kill the armor guy while dodging him. Badass moment for Richter there.

Finished it. The more gun focused design is a bummer but unlike most people posting so far I really like it forcing play styles on you. Also I think the reporter non-lethal levels are some of the most fun in the game. They are the best designed melee focused levels and picking up and unloading the guns to refresh your combo is fun and looks cool as hell. In general frustrating gun filled levels hold this one back a lot though. Can't say I love it as much as the first game.

Earlyish story spoiler about the trial:
Biker is outside the courthouse that Jacket is being tried at. He is not wearing his helmet but he has the same blue hair you can see when jacket kills him in the first game.

That would be great if the weapons or patterns of the enemies you just mentioned were deterministic. They aren't.

Yeah, I'm watching Duke's stream and it's like the devs wanted to make a puzzle game but with the pieces being randomly generated. It's so confusing because when the game hits its stride it looks amazing but then you get to weird choreographed sections where elements are random and it becomes a mess.

The guy with the gun may do that, but I need his gun to kill the fat enemy, who is on the same X axis. I'm sure there's a way to dodge around the enemy and throw a weapon at the gun enemy before they shoot while simultaneously dealing with the other 8 melee enemies, but this is really mindless design. I'm wondering if they handled their testing entirely internally- it might explain some of what I saw.

If it's the level I'm thinking of, instead of going through the front door you can walk around the place to see where all the enemies are - and neither the fat or the gun will see you if you're right at the door, so just kill both of the first dudes without going forward too far, wait for both the fat and the gun man to be around the corner, murder the gun from behind and shoot the fat.

It's a frustrating level to be sure.

When I beat that one it only took me a few tries but I really just lucked into it. I completely hosed up the attempt and managed to slop it. The fat guy was chasing me around in circles at the end as I frantically tried to pick up the gun. No advice for you really. Good luck.

Beat the game on normal then hard in one sitting.

I enjoyed it but not nearly as much as HLM1. Like a 7.5/10 compared to a 9/10.

Some major gripes:

[spoilers]One level as the Henchman? I guess he didn't really have a gimmick, but still...[/spoiler]

All of the soldier's levels are really, really bad.

Level design in general is kinda eh

The Fans were my favorite group but they got 4-5 levels and that's it. What a letdown.

The Son just gets 3/4 of the Fans' abilities? :geno:

I don't know what to think of the plot either. It wasn't as interesting as the first game. It didn't have the same sense of closure, ironically.

HM2 feels a lot harder than the HM1, particularly in some of its later?(ch16+?) levels, particularly the ones where it feels like they really want you to get shot at in the process of moving forward. The game's pretty hosed up as a whole and feels a whole lot more experimental, for sometimes better/slightly worse. Carpenter Brut's music still owns.

I can't remember where I got up to, I've just got the phone interview. I'm finding myself forcing my way through this game more than I am enjoying it. It somehow feels like I'm playing it wrong.

The worst being those loving Soldier levels, where my strategy ended up being find the crate, shoot in all directions, and slowly edge out with my whole 10 bullets. It feels like they were supposed to let you pick up ammo, so you have reason to constantly move towards enemies rather than camp out.

Did anybody else have issues playing as the twins? My shooter would end up lagging behind and getting stuck in other rooms, leading to me getting shot to gently caress.

I got stuck at that for a while... I kept trying to kill the guy with the gun by throwing the guy's knife but it ended up being way easier just to knock him out by throwing the bat (Which seems to fly further than the knife for some reason) and rushing to grab his gun to kill fat guy.

I'm up to chapter 21 or so now and I definitely feel like I'm basically just being 'cheap' and luring poo poo out on a lot of levels. The soldier ones in particular were just kind of annoying otherwise since you couldn't really do the usual smooth throwing weapons around poo poo.

A lot of the levels after the Vietnam ones feel like you have to run the perfect line to do them. The only other way I've found is turtling and hoping to cheese my way through. It's disheartening above anything else. I like the puzzle with the fat guy and having to avoid him as you get the gun, but the level before it? The bar where you start and there's about 19 dudes right by the door? How else can you do that bar cheesing the door to knock them all over one by one?

Such a horrible let down. Got very little drive to continue on right now.

Your favorite furry wrestler.
How to crash Hotline Miami 2:

1. Go to any Richter playable intro stage.
2. Inside his house, move up stairs so game starts to load the top floor map, but stop. When the floor loads, move towards the door; this will load the top floor map, but show you in the first floor area anyway. You know you've done it correctly if you can walk out the front door and see the second floor deck.
3. Now just get on the bus as if you were starting the stage normally.
4. Critical exception! Crash to desktop! :v:

EDIT: Man, Richter's storyline screws with me. I guess there is a canon explanation as to what happened in the police station of the first game, in that Jacket lets him live but who the hell did that?

DOUBLE EDIT: Oh, apparently there is a update for the game already; maybe that patched out that bug I just posted? I dunno... hahahaha nope.

Dennaton likes hurting other people. :v:

edit: Do people get what I mean about "Perfect lines"? Like in the first one even the hardest of levels (Jacket or Biker) had some kind of variety to them. A lot of trial and error, but in the end you never felt like the game was forcing your hand to play a certain way.

With this one it feel like, well... You start the second floor with 3 dudes and two dogs coming at you and the nearest room has glass walls, a fat guy and two gunmen in it. There's clearly a SPECIFIC way to somehow disarm a guy, get the bat and hope you swing it perfectly to kill all the dudes and dogs. I'll be hosed if I found it though, just dying over and over at that staircase until I started turtling within the pixel of staircase still available, picking off one person at a time which isn't how your meant to play the game at all.

Hell, even the first floor of that level. 3 Guys with bats and a shooter behind a glass wall. I had to lure them into the starting hallway one by one. Again, I'm sure there's a "line" I could have followed to kill them all and the shooter, but it wasn't apparent to me and... Ahhh I don't know. Someone who can word good could probably sum this up better than me,

That's not the only weird story retcon. The Biker is still alive too and is at the trial of Jacket, yet if the game continues off the Jacket timeline then the Biker should be dead.

The soldier section at least sets up the coup with the crazy general. The bit with snake mask hick does not tie back into the story at all as far I can see. Maybe if you do his last mission perfectly and don't get captured something different happens?

If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now.
Got home and played some more, that same 2nd floor of the first level section still frustrated the poo poo out of me and took several several several tries. I did pass it though.

Afterwards I blitzed through the next like 5 levels like nothing. So there's just something awkward about that 2nd floor that fucks with me.

I feel like 90% of the time when I die, its because I was shot by somebody offscreen. That's not really fun gameplay.

Also the non-deterministic stuff is just frustrating; the levels should be deliberate. Why not make it consistent in which enemy spawns where and has which weapon? Supposed to make it more unpredictable? You just die and do it over again is all that happens.

The story does have me interested though. The detective obviously has some weird poo poo going on, and oh my god.

That fat guy.
That loving goon.
Is that a fanny pack or a green karate belt he's wearing?
He walks into a tattoo shop and asks for the Confederate flag, and when they can't do it right there he insults the establishment and storms out.

Okay game, you've got my curiosity. :allears: And this next level is all kinds of trippy.

All the VHS effects are :krad: and holy poo poo the soundtrack is so so so good.

But I keep getting stuck on little bits of geometry, its frustrating trying to tell which objects you can use for cover and which you can't, which the enemy can see through/over and which they can't, etc. Bleh.

Question about the double-Uzi Fan, is there any way to reload those guns mid-level? I tried him out on the scene that leads down into the Sewers but I ran out of ammo leading into the third map and it was basically impossible to finish at that point just by punching.

On the bright side I just redid it as the twins and walked away with a S rank after a 18 combo. Those guys are my jam.
