I'm pretty much loving this game so far but I'm honestly kind of surprised that the game got pushed back so far and at no point did anyone involved with it think that having huge rooms with dudes that can kill you outside of view range is a bad idea.

I'm like 11 levels in and man this is really just kind of disappointing. It's like the creator received a ton of feedback from the first game saying people loved guns, wide open areas, windows and guns

The soundtrack is good though

I got the Karma achievement in HM1 after 30 hours of gameplay and only because I was trying to get all the achievements.

I got the Karma achievement in HM2 after 4 hours and I'm not even near the ending.

The game's balance needs work and I predict there will be a backlash to HM2 being unfair as opposed to challenging.

Just finished. Don't think it was a huge letdown, also don't think it was a major improvement. Sort of like Dark Souls II: scratches the itch, but lacks the careful design of the first game. It also runs a little too long and the level design isn't great, so the Dark Souls II comparison is surprisingly complete.

We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.

Mr. Fortitude posted:

That's not the only weird story retcon. The Biker is still alive too and is at the trial of Jacket, yet if the game continues off the Jacket timeline then the Biker should be dead.

Really disappointed in this game.

Canonically, Jacket loses the fight, but survives and is taken into custody.

This game is like The Raid 2 if The Raid 2 had ten extra Prakaso subplots. I'm looking forward to Super Bunnyhop's critique.

Just finished it. Couple of story questions:

Is the guy who gets shot and survives in the Soldier's unit supposed to be Jacket? I notice he was the only one of the four who doesn't have any dialogue, unless I'm misremembering.

Does something different happen with the Writer if you go to the typewriter instead of the phone in the last mission?

Is it possible to to survive Jake's last mission, or do you die no matter what?

Thanks. And a couple of achievement/trophy questions:

Did the one about meeting Biker get removed? I don't see it in the list, or any hiddens in the list. I also never encountered him other than outside the court house.

I don't think I killed anyone in the writers missions, except the very first guy outside the club who it seems like you have to kill? Did you not have to kill him or did I just gently caress up?

wait what the fuck??

I've done the first ten levels and they've been dope as poo poo, not sure why everyone's so down on them. I mean, I believe that they could get worse, but the Fan levels have been great and Soldier's first is probably my favorite from either game. It definitely plays a bit different, but I don't think it's as cheap as you guys are making it out to be, at least so far. Even in the wide open areas you can usually weave from room to room to draw gun guys in close. As long as you use shift+mouse to look ahead its not that bad. The music and VCR aesthetic are all really well done too.

They changed the shift look a bit, it's a lot more clunky and disorienting for many people. Also some levels have insane corridors and guys you cannot possibly see shooting. It gets worse is what i mean.

The game is much, much harder than the first. But I don't think it's better or worse than the first. Just harder. There were a few levels that took me about 40 minutes to beat, but those were mostly due to me not "getting" something about them. I don't think it's as good as the first game, but it's not some crushing disappointment either.

Man maybe I'm just getting nitpicky because I'm so down on other parts of it, but I just remembered something that pissed me right off. In Release, the first guy you kill, you do with a pipe, you have to use that weapon. Not but 3 goddamn minutes later, the same enemy shows up, same sprite, and that weapon does gently caress-all to them, you have to use guns. Why show you how to kill this kind of guy only to change it to the complete opposite on the SAME level? It's a shame because I really liked that level otherwise.

On a positive note, when Ash wasn't getting stuck on corners (all the goddamn time), playing as them was pretty great and you can do some crazy poo poo with it.

That's not true at all, though? All of the enemies who chase and choke you on that level have to be killed with melee weapons, they duck guns.

It's less clunky when you use the pistol one to generate noise while you wait around the corner and mow enemies down as they come by.

Wow some of the comments in this thread had me a bit worried but then I loaded it up and flew through the first 7 levels like nothing... and I'm enjoying all this murder more than ever. I was never particularly good at HM1 but always had moments of pure murdering bliss and I'm experiencing much the same with this just with a tad more shooting. I'm really enjoying this and obviously the music is amazing. Even the story has me intrigued so far.

By the way for any aussies, using a VPN to purchase a key from wherever and then unlocking in steam worked without fault!

It's honestly not as bad as what most posters here make it seem. I get that you can't go on an insane murder spree, which is what HM1 was all about.. but taking a sneaky Metal Gear Solid way of clearing a level seems to work really well because of the level designs. It probably won't get you an A rank, but if you just want to get through a level.. just hide around a corner, fire off a bullet, then kill everyone that shows up at the corner.

I liked the part where Kuriyama did his big speech.
what is it that feels different (and wrong) about the camera in this game than in the first one? i feel like i NEVER see enough of the map, whereas that wasn't a problem in the first one. holding shift to see things will take the camera too far and you lose track of your character. is it just that the rooms in this new game are bigger?

in the first one, i feel like you saw a little further in one direction if you moved your cursor all the way to the edge of the screen.. i could be mistaken though.
