Perhaps it's in the nature of television. Just waves in space.
Immortals also had the best use of post-converted 3D I've seen in a non-animated movie.

And yeah it owns.

You can expect new Tarsem Singh's movies aren't going to be at the same caliber visually. A huge part of the design of his movies was Eiko Ishioka, and she died shortly after Mirror Mirror.

She tends to mostly get recognition for costume design, because it's definitely at the forefront of anything she was involved in, but you can see from things like her work on Coppola's Dracula and Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdKYMcxjsbc

that a lot of the visual style people associate with Tarsem Singh was due to her collaboration from the bottom up.

Not to say a Tarsem Singh movie without her is going to be bad or even worse, it's just a large part of that unique look is gone for good.

Some shots in that new Pixar movie look super dark. Like the family huddling on the floor in the dark empty room.

Plus the whole concept of her fun side going on an adventure and leaving her depressed.

The Japanese market trailer for Tomorrowland is refreshingly free of Mystery Box BS.

I think it's more evidence that the Mystery Box campaign style is more about hiding something not very marketable (ie a rote "chosen one" story) than enticing people into a genuine mystery.

I flat-out asked the guy at the Space Mountain gift shop why there were no "Tomorrowland" pins available, seeing as it's basically the most obvious marketing opportunity ever.

"Well, pins usually don't show up until after the show and 'Miles From Tomorrowland' hasn't even premiered yet so..."

The last trailer I saw (whatever the new US one is) wasn't really "Mystery Box", it all but spelled out the plot to anyone that's not an ignoramus.

It's really loving funny and Sony won't let anyone show the funny parts lest they think it's an Adam Sandler movie which it kind of is, but the Adam Sandler movies we wished he was making all along.

Being this close to prolapsed anus Adam Sandler movie The Cobbler probably doesn't help the situation. Also Josh Gad is loving hilarious, if you like Josh Gad of course.

I 2100% do not believe you, although the trailer was very well-edited and the special effects are impressive. Getting Iwatani was a very nice touch, and I'd bet dollars to donuts we see Billy Mitchell in there at some point. I still have zero loving clue why Adam Sandler and his Retarded 4 are the only adults on planet Earth with skill at beating early 80s video games, but that's more a problem with the footage they used and not necessarily indicative of how the movie plays out.

I guess it's because this premise is Gen X/Aging Baby-Boomer as gently caress that the trailer doesn't jive with me. The premise kind-of worked for Futurama 15 years ago, but even back then it felt like the byproduct of adults who didn't realize just how far culture had moved forward in video games when they weren't looking and just how huge a demographic they were leaving out so they could jerk off to jokes about Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. I expect there will be some ham-fisted "everyone gets involved" Care Bear Stare bullsshit in the third act, but even so it feels really masturbatory to middle-aged schlubs. I'm not knocking that as much as explaining why it's not connecting with me even though it's objectively the best-looking Adam Sandler vehicle in 10 years bar none.

Although the funny thing is that if they had gotten characters from ~5-7 years later they could've gotten the most iconic figures in video games today ("The Call of Duty guy" is not iconic).

If I fail ban me or change my avatar or whatever? Not sure which would be more shameful in the long run to be totally honest.
