Kimi has a typical Finnish demeanor which generally leads to humorous situations. Below are some of the more prominent things that may be mentioned.

Ice Cream - At the 2009 Malaysian GP the race was stopped due to rain. While most drivers waited in their cars for the race to resume, Kimi changed in to casual clothes and treated himself to a snack.

Having a poo poo - During a presentation at the 2002 Brazillian GP, Kimi was interviewed by Martin Brundle who asked why he missed the event.

"Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing" - Kimi won the 2012 Abu Dhabi GP with Lotus, which was his first win since 2009 and Lotus/Renault first win since 2008.

Offtrack in Brazil - Kimi missed a braking point and went off track at the 2012 Brazilian GP. Unfortunately for him the access road was blocked off and he couldn't re-enter the track without turning around.

General Team Radio Shenanigans

Monaco Boat - In the 2006 Monaco GP, Kimi's was forced to retired when his McLaren caught fire. He promptly left the track (did not return to the garage) and spent the rest of the race on his yacht that was docked nearby.

I'd also mention some of his more entertaining off-track shenanigans, including:

- passing out at a strip club with an inflatable dolphin
- entering a boat race with the entire crew wearing gorilla suits
- falling down from his yacht while drunk
- groping some chicks and doing a strip show of his own at another strip club (and getting thrown out)

edit: Ron Dennis does something unthinkable and sort of admits he's been talking out of his rear end:

quote:

Ron Dennis has admitted he gave false information regarding Fernando Alonso's test crash in February.

The McLaren chairman claimed Alonso never suffered a concussion following the impact with the trackside wall, but it transpired later that wasn't the case.

Speaking ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, he admitted his mistake.

"It was not the best performance by me," he said. "I understand why the press beat me up for being inaccurate. I wanted to be open and honest. I failed. But it is my objective to try to be as honest as possible in future.

"There are a lot of complexities about concussion. It is difficult to quantify, and it goes beyond my area of expertise."

Dennis also confirmed that Alonso is likely to be back in the car for the second race of the season in Malaysia, but ultimately the decision isn't his.

"It is not my decision. But as far as I know Fernando will be in Malaysia. I have every reason to believe he will be there," he added.

"I spoke to him on the way over here. He wants to race there. I hope he does, but it is his decision, not mine."
Not his area of expertise? But he was so sure about it earlier! If I can't trust Ron Dennis, who can I trust?

I'm now starting to think this is a ploy to get his money back, but he knows Sauber can't pay him. Waiting until the team assets are on the other side of the world before applying to sequester them is a pretty smart move if so.

Bye Bye Sauber then.

Who would have guessed that Bianchi being bad and effectively killing himself would also kill a team off.

Hopefully with this development he decides to lawyer up and we can be rid of Sauber (or at least some of the senior personnel) for good.

Because Adrian Newey is bored making cars and wants to play with ships and planes, Horny Horner suggested to ban the use of wind tunnels entirely.

Both of Toto's teams naturally think this is a very dumb idea.

Didn't anyone at Sauber think that anyone that made 1.3 billion euro's and has holding in 30 company's wouldn't have an elite team of layers on hand to really know to drive the knife in if they defrauded him out of a £10,000,000 investment?
Its not the kind of deal someone would make rashly and reading up on Marcel Boekhoorn he clearly isn't a fool.

Bravo Sauber! :golfclap:

Got to love the off-track drama of this ridiculous sport.

Stupid question... Hamilton's number is 44, on that document he has '44'.. now drivers have their own chosen numbers, can they opt to keep their own number in the season where they are the current reigning world champ? or will he still have a '1' on the car but be listed as driver number 44?

Hrm.

edit: also, what was the rumoured cut-off point where the other teams would have to provide three cars? Was it less than 18 cars or something like that?

The WDC can choose One or his own number. ARE LEWIS chose his own number.
Teams have to provide three cars if they are only eight teams on grid.

Start of a season. Horny Horner said a single car costs 30-40 mill. Even if we lost both teams however, thanks to HAAS F1, 2016 will have nine teams.

It would be a total cluster gently caress as they would have to not just provide an extra car, but having to sort out transport and visa's which are probably done months in advance, restart production lines, I doubt the engine manufactures have too many spare power units laying round because of that development loop hole.
Would teams be expected to cram 3 cars into their pits or split their pits across 2 garages?

Well if there's fewer teams, there's more garages so I assume they would all get more room.

Better question, still only 1 pit crew?

How much is Sauber worth now? a 2013 article valued it at $155, It cant be worth that much now after last season. If Van Der Garde was awarded damages for the loss of 2 seasons of his professional carer, emotional damage, breach of contract, breaking a high court order + the £10m he is owed. Would it be too far fetched for his father in law to settle up and buy the team out?

There has been suggestion in a few places this is exactly what VDG's company (which is what is bringing the court case, and is probably owned in part by his Father in Law) is aiming to do. Would make a lot of sense as its about the only way of him getting a drive this year is if his backers own what is/was Sauber.

the current performance of the team has virtually nothing to do with its valuation. it is still an F1 team with among the best facilities on the grid. they own their own wind tunnel (which they can't afford to run, presumably). it would still cost a lot to buy them out.

Which would be better than them going out but still leaves us with one fewer team that doesn't fall under the fly by night ("Manufacturer", "Marketing department" or "1 rich idiot") team ownerships that'll bail instantly if the wind changes.

He will after 17 cars start, there's a million crashes and Magnussen wins the only race of this McLaren Honda partnership.

Also race is stopped on lap 37 since literally every car has crashed or had an engine failure.
