PANSY(NA) or 2PAC(EU) TS will probably be used for botes I venture. Just look in PGS for the respective threads to get the info.

Got my acceptance notice too! Everyone I know who applied has been accepted, so I think they're being pretty liberal with it.

I was in alpha so the first days of CBT are like seal clubbing for me, but even this is often not enough, but why should it be different than in WoT.

Isn't there a key to follow your shells? I thought it was MMB in the weekend test but it does nothing now. Or does it only work with BBs?

MMB works for me on the starter ships, not sure which button cancels it out though.

How practical is to go full ramming speed and just jam your ship right into the center of another?

If only I'd been able to start the download before work today. I played a bit of everything but focused on BBs during the only weekend they let me in. Pubbies are just as stupid in this game as WoT; my Fuso was able to fight and win against two Nagatos at once because AP is just better than HE.

Aiming matters a lot in this game- hitting the citadel with AP is so much more damage than HE or badly aimed AP shots. Aiming for the magazines gives the chance for instant detonation too, which is one of the most satisfying things to do.

Lol can't spot a DD in smoke from literally 1.5 KM away. Yea can see that getting old fast.

So how bad are carriers right now? Have they been blown out of proportion?

Yeah, pubbies have problems shooting one another in Tanks with fairly decent accuracy guns with the enemy stationary and now you have everyone in constant motion while you have to dodge islands and torpedoes then keep your ship positioned so that you can maximize your amount of cannons on target and minimize the profile you show to enemies. The game is very basic point and click and watching someone stream it earlier everyone was saying how slow and easy it looks but I can imagine the people who can keep track of all those factors will do remarkably better than the idiots who complain how this takes no skill. Luckily NA didn't seem to have a long line of folks signing up so it only took an hour from signing up to get an invite.

Managing your position and angle relative to multiple enemies and keeping effective gunnery up is actually pretty tricky.

If you're farther than 5 km or so the destroyer is hilariously non threatening and you're equally likely to hit it by random firing into the smoke or by spotting it for half a second and aiming there.

MoraleHazard posted:Where are the magazines? Is there something in game that shows it? Varies by the ship. Generally you want to hit low (just above the waterline) and in the centre of the ship to try and get good citadel hits. I can't think of many situations where it's better to fire HE than AP, because even if you're at a sub-optimal AP range that probably won't last very long, and even at "bad" ranges, one lucky AP shell will do more than the entire HE salvo. In a BB against lower tier DDs or in most things against carriers, I guess. I actually had more trouble killing carriers than other BBs in my BBs. Most of them are even more fragile than DDs and they're very large targets so the important bits are all spread out. You want to light carriers on fire to prevent them from launching ships but unless you spread out your shots instead of firing in one volley a BB takes long enough to reload that they'll have enough time to repair and launch all their planes.

Wargaming screwed up and made a fun game, nobody tell them or they'll gently caress it up. I'm amazed it even runs on a PC with no graphics card. First game out with torps, I wasn't sure how to fire them. Fired a full salvo by accident, and still killed an enemy boat, who was mad. Torpedoes are great. I have no idea what I'm doing in any part of this game, but my bullets hit the enemy more often than not, which means I'm always doing alright for myself. Click boats.

Here's what a battleship's armor layout looks like for the curious. If you look in the dark blue area on the side, you'll see a bunch of machinery looking stuff under the superstructure. That's all the boilers and turbines that make the ship go. They're big spaces full of important machinery. The areas beneath the guns that have the turntable things are the magazines. These are super important. That area from the start of the dark blue to right behind the rearmost main turret is the citadel. Shoot there with AP and penetrate for massive damage. The longer or shorter the range is the better odds you have to penetrate. Ships of a class can usually penetrate each other. That's why cool kids angle their ships' belt armor.

BadLlama posted:So how bad are carriers right now? Have they been blown out of proportion? It's early Navy Field all over again. If you have a somewhat decent feeling for speed and direction then you will do enormous damage with manual torp bombers. Pubbies ofc use auto all the time. Don't expect any help or escort from the pubs though, the trick with carriers is to see where the bulk of the shitlords goes and then to trailing them, so that you are protected from the inevitable bum rush for the cap zones. But while carriers are nice they don't give you the same rewarding feeling that BBs do, also you are constantly in that rts top-down view and you miss all the pretty explosions. Well, I watched a full health Kongo turn into and ram another Kongo that had 1/3 health and could have been easily shredded to pieces with minimal effort. Both died horrible deaths. After a stream of WTF's!? from both teams in chat the reply was "at least I took him out." Okay?
